What will we collect and how will we use it?
We like to engage with our audience and encourage audience participation, which is why we have invited our viewers to participate in the Blue Peter Gaming Competition. If your child gets through to the Shortlisting stage of the competition we will need your contact details – phone and email address. The BBC will collect and process the personal information that you have provided to us - the data about your child i.e. their first name and age, your name, your email address and your contact phone number. The BBC will also process personal data included in your child’s video such as their ethnicity, image etc. which may include special category data. The BBC is the 'data controller' of this information. This means that the BBC decides what you and your child’s personal information is used for, and the ways in which it is processed. We will process this personal information under our public task to increase audience interaction and participation with our journalistic, artistic or literary material, and support learning for people of all ages. We will process special category data for reasons of substantial public interest. We may share the personal information of the shortlisted entrants and winner with Mediatonic, the games developer and the BBC’s partner in the Blue Peter Gaming Competition.
Retaining your information
We will contact 30 entrants after shortlisting between Saturday 23rd January and Wednesday 27th January 2021, the details will be used to send out prizes and then you and your child’s personal details collected for this competition will be deleted by the end of March 2021. If you originally contacted us via your BBC Account – your details in relation to your Account will be maintained in our systems as long as you have one.
