Archives for March 2013
The Strypes are 4 young lads from Cavan, Ireland, just below the Northern Ireland border with an average age of 16. Phenomenal live band, packing rooms up and down the country with fans and rock royalty alike...Some Quotes:
• "They're unbelievable! They look totally cool, too." Dave Grohl
• "They have a knowledge of R&B at 16 years that I've only amassed in my 65 years." Sir Elton John
M83's theme song to the new Kosinski film 'Oblivion', starring Tom Cruise premiered today.
M83 was formed as a musical vehicle by Anthony Gonzalez in 2001. Over the course of the next 10 years Gonzalez released six albums under the M83 name, including, most recently, the Grammy-nominated album 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming' (2011).
The supporting world tour for 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming' lasted more than a year and saw Gonzalez enhance the growing reputation for the variety and excellence of M83's live performances.
With the incredible excitement around Fall Out Boy's return, the band moved the release date of their album SAVE ROCK AND ROLL to April 16 (from May 7). Pete Wentz said: " So when we got this all rolling we didn't expect it to be so crazy. But we weren't kidding when we said we had the album done- so why wait? It means the world to us the way you have welcomed us back. SAVE ROCK AND ROLL now out early, on April 15th." SAVE ROCK AND ROLL also features collaborations with Elton John, Big Sean, Courtney Love and Foxes.
"Bath Is Black" is the second single to be taken from Marika's debut mini album "That Iron Taste" (out now). Marika's music channels something very different to the happy-clappy nature of recent folk, hers is a far more potent vision in the lineage of Syd Barrett, but presented by an enigmatic beauty with a striking vocal delivery more akin to that of Nico deftly exploring an unsmiling bereft landscape.
Noah And The Whale will release their fourth studio album, Heart Of Nowhere, on May 6th, 2013. The album, recorded at West London's British Grove Studios, is the band's fourth record in five years, and follows 2011's platinum-selling Last Night On Earth.
Savages will release their debut album Silence Yourself on 6th May 2013 on Matador Records / Pop Noire. Available on LP, CD and download, the album was recorded in north-west London's Fish Factory during a three week period in December 2012, and is produced by Johnny Hostile / Rodaidh McDonald.
Clocking in at 38 minutes, Silence Yourself opens with an excerpt from the John Cassavetes film 'Opening Night', and features brand new recordings of 'Husbands', 'I Am Here' and 'City's Full' - first heard on debut single 'Husbands / Flying To Berlin' and the 'I Am Here' live EP - both previously released on singer Jehnny Beth's record label Pop Noire.
Fresh from SXSW this year we caught up with Ezra from Vampire Weekend who sounded refreshed and really excited about their forthcoming new album. With its unique time signatures and rockabilly undertones Dianne Young is another perfect pop curveball from this band that do them so well.
Fly is perhaps the crown jewel on the heavily gem encrusted forthcoming Child of Lov debut. It's modern soul music of epic proportions.
The track's sheer vigour and attitude however signal that this is just the start for one of the world's most exciting emerging talents.
As with the previous two singles (Heal and Give Me), the production pays respects to America's south, with the result sounding something like the RZA producing for Muscle Shoals
Fly will be released on the same day as The Child Of Lov's eponymous debut album, 6th May 2013.
