Law of Attraction

Do you know The Secret? Do you believe in the Law of Attraction?

I hadn't heard about it until a month ago, when I went to see my family in Brazil and realised all my friends were talking about it. Even my doctor asked me to read the books and watch the DVD.

The Secret, by Rhonda Byrne, is a worldwide bestseller, with more than 7 million copies sold. It's in the New York Times and the USA Today bestseller lists.

It's huge in Australia, Portugal, South Africa and many other countries.

Other books and films on the Law of Attraction (by Esther and Jerry Hicks and by Michael J. Losier) are doing equally well and bear the same message.

They claim to have scientific evidence that your thoughts and words make things happen.

If you think positive, if you ask, believe and become receptive, you're going to get it: money, success, good health.

Equally, if you're a grumpy, miserable person, all you're going to attract to you is misery, bad luck, failure.

You can't escape the Law of Attraction the same way you can't get away from the Law of Gravity.

I later found out that the Law of Attraction is a big talking point, with websites dedicated to it and weekly radio shows in the US.

The author and producer, Rhonda Byrne, was on Oprah Winfrey's and Larry King's shows earlier in the year.

But not all reaction is positive. For some, the whole thing is "mishmash of offensive self-help cliches".

What do you think? Do you believe in the Law of Attraction? Has it worked for you?

Or do you think this is just another attempt to sell books and make money?
