twitter quote

Look out Ambridge, James Bellamy is back. Listeners suspect that his arrival signals the end of one or possibly two relationships before long. Many say they'll put up with him if he does the trick!

Is Elizabeth about to be tempted "out of her widow's weeds"? As Ifty comes calling, they think it won't be long before Kirsty's crying into her dessert once again.

And "churlish" Emma Grundy is upset with Will after he treats George to a toffee apple. Most listeners think she's being unfair.

Here's my pick of listener discussions on The Archers message board, Twitter and Facebook between 18-24 October 2012.

Run for cover folks! James Bellamy is back in town. Some think his appearance signals the death knell for Lilian and Matt's relationship. Or perhaps Tom and Brenda's? If "whining" James is around till Christmas, some worry for their sanity. But there is one festive scenario that just might work...

How to get rid of Wwhining James.. Tell Tracey Horrible that he fancies her - sit back and watch...... (EmilyBronte on the message board)

I agree it seems unfair on Trace, but it would be worth it if only for one scene... James, stuck and immobile in his plaster cast, around the Horrobin Christmas table, complete with a droopy paper hat and equally droopy spirits, with only the prospect of The Great Escape to look forward to. (peter-francis on the message board)

Oh God, I may have to not listen to #thearchers for the duration of James' convalescence. He makes me homicidal. (@ginaandcrumpets on Twitter)

Matt WILL love having James around!!!!! *tee hee* #thearchers (@Bethan1967 on Twitter)

Matt kicking his plaster would be great fun! And then both of them pointing fingers at each other when Lillian gets back home, just like toddlers - "He was mean!" "No, HE was mean!" (charmingAnnielynn on the message board)

I expect the majority of clinical and nursing staff who've met him want to put him on the Felpersham Care Pathway. I'm surprised he's not been whacked already. (Feral_Ralph on the message board)

I like the fact James gets under Matt's skin. Between Paul and James' efforts Matt will be ousted. One day it will be very satisfying because finally, finally Lillian will say no to James. And in kitchens and cars all around the realm there will be cheers! (Charlotte Evans on Facebook)

Join the debate on the message board threads: How to get rid of Whining James and So will Matt kill James?

As Lilian turns to Paul in her hour of need, many raised a cheer. Perhaps it's time she left "nasty Matt"

HURRAH FOR LILLIAN! #hurrahforlillian #thearchers (@Mudkipstoat23 on Twitter)

Frankly Lillian you are far too good a business woman and woman woman to be lumbered with Matt Crawford.... #thearchers (@potterwigwam on Twitter)

I hope Matt enjoyed that cigar. It's going to cost him his relationship with Lilian, his front for his business, his home and possibly his sanity if James stays for three months. (snarklehound on the message board)

I think Paul is the one who is going to get hurt in all this, Lil is just using him. (Auntie Molly on the message board)

Lilian!!!!! The first time your partner does not jump through hoops just because your idiot son hurts his leg, you do not phone your partner's brother who you have got the hots can only end up one way. (Diamontelil on the message board)

Lillian has been covertly searching for an excuse to call Paul ever since she found out he was in the vicinity. This was her moment ... after all, it might never come again. James broke his leg - but not in vain! (The devil wears Burberry on the message board)

Oh Lillian, swap brothers. It worked for Emma. Less so for Ed mind you. #thearchers (@knittingpenguin on Twitter)

Have your say on the I hope Matt enjoyed that cigar and Lilian !!!!!!! threads on the message board.

Tom gets similar treatment after he treated Brenda to a Christmas marketing brainstorm in the guise of a pub lunch.

What is wrong with her? All that work she's doing for him... she should have a share of the company or at least some sort of legal recompense. Or maybe just kill him and be done with it... (the_shellgrottolady on the message board)

I'd have stuffed his beef & horseradish down his miserable throat. (Carolyn on the message board)

I think James will be bored, and as it is only his leg that is damaged, will start turning his attention to Brenda for entertainment. (Ima Burygirl on Facebook)

Poor Brenda (never thought I'd say that) Tom *&* James RUN HONEYBUNCH! #thearchers (@MUSEmunkey on Twitter)

If you were Brenda, what would you do? Add your thoughts on the message board thread: Kill him.

Was there a spark of chemistry between Elizabeth and Ifty as they discussed Freddie's extra maths tuition? And will poor Kirsty face another break up over dessert?

Methinks someone may be tempting Elizabeth Pargetter out of her widow's weeds..Look out Kirsty! #TheArchers (@shimmy41a on the message board)

But does this mean for the third time in her emotional career, poor old Kirst will be taken for a slap up meal - expect a proposal and then get 'it's not you, it's me'? And they were all Archer connected. (GreenBrownBear on the message board)

I think a developing relationship with Lizzie, Freddie idolising him and Lily seeing straight through him might make for a bit of fun! (Andrew-R on the message board)

Join the speculation in the Ooh, Nifty and Lizard thread.

A tussle over a toffee apple saw Will and Emma at loggerheads on Sunday. Was Emma right to be upset as Will "splashed the cash"? Most think not.

SO, because she can't afford things, NO one else is allowed to have money? It's not like willyum heard her say that he couldn't have a toffee apple (Perkin Warbeck on the message board)

I think she had good reason to be annoyed about the guinea pig, less about the karate suit and none at all about the toffee apple. Silly Emma. And twice silly; if she was wondering whether or not Will knows she and Ed are struggling for money, well, she's just told him, hasn't she? (JustJanie - Fairweather Jogger on the message board)

If William really wants to be helpful, he should put his treat money to things that Ed and Emma really need for George, not karate kits and guinea pigs. (Lakey_Hill on the message board)

In their own way, Will and Emma match each other perfectly. #Karma #TheArchers (@Airscaper on Twitter)

Emma has double standards. How can you begrudge your children a small treat whilst grabbing a £150 one for yourself. Would she have been so churlish if Susan or Neil had offered the toffee apples, or Eddie and Clarrie? I doubt it. It's only Will. (Mrs Miggins on the message board)

Team Will or Team Emma? Add your thoughts to the How very dare you Willyum thread on the message board.

Amy Shindler (Brenda) and Roger May (James)

Brenda Tucker is far from delighted to have James Bellamy back in Ambridge, especially as he's recuperating in the Dower House, which also contains the Amside offices where she works.

Because they have history...

They first met in April 2005 when Brenda was 24 and James was 32. He was visiting his mother and licking his wounds following a difficult break-up.

Brenda was forced off the road because of James' reckless driving in his shiny 4x4. When she found him the next day and called him a stupid idiot, she was taken aback when he turned on the charm. He agreed with her and offered to pay for any damage to her car. As it happened, there was none, but he insisted that he took her for a coffee to apologise properly.

James charmed impressionable Brenda with talk of his high-flying, property developer lifestyle. She found herself apologising for being so cross and moaned about being in a rut in her job at Radio Borsetshire. James airily offered to get in touch with some of his contacts in London and before long Brenda found herself asking James out.

Lilian's pleasure that James was 'getting back on the horse' soon evaporated when she discovered the identity of the new girl. She had been daggers drawn with Brenda ever since the younger woman had supposedly stolen Scott, the toy-boy with whom Lilian had scandalised the village following her return from Guernsey in 2001.

Unconcerned James told Brenda what his mother thought was irrelevant. Brenda blushed when he told her she was beautiful, and just what he needed to get over his last relationship with the bitch-from-hell. The alarm bells should have rung at this point, but Brenda was rapidly falling for this smooth-talking sophisticate.

Very soon, James started to show his true colours, forgetting they'd arranged to meet because of champagne-induced hangovers. At one point he indirectly slagged off Brenda (who he'd stood up the night before), not realising it was her mother Betty that he was talking to.

His promises of helping Brenda's career soon proved empty, as he backtracked on his offer of putting her in touch with his supposed journalist friends. And on 24 May, when she started to talk about moving in with him in London, he quickly ended things, cruelly telling her he didn't want her anywhere near him ever again.

James escaped, leaving Brenda to cry on the shoulders of a rather bewildered Tom Archer.

But that's another story.

"I want Emma to go to her London wedding" - listener discussions to 17 October 2012

Was Will Grundy's gift (a guinea pig) to George just a kind gesture? Some listeners have their doubts. And as Ed and Emma are left with another mouth to feed, there's a whip round on the message board to get Emma to her friend's big London wedding.

Kenton's job swap idea was met with much derision - he really hasn't thought this through, has he? Poor Fallon. Perhaps she could find solace in Rhys - or Ed - or Jazzer?

As Lynda prepares for Ambridge's Elizabethan Christmas, Robert is praised and Lynda's "hectoring" efforts are lambasted.

And finally, many faced a Sunday night dilemma as Felix Baumgartner mis-timed his epic leap into the record books.

Here's my pick of listener discussions on The Archers message board, Twitter and Facebook between 11-17 October 2012.

Will Grundy has come under the spotlight this week, castigated by some for "scoring points" when it comes to young George. But perhaps Ed is at fault too?

Where there's a Will, there's affray #thearchers (@2ndcitysuit on Twitter)

I so thought Will had got himself together due to the love of a good woman and was over trying to score points on Ed and Emma by using George as a pawn in his game - how very wrong I was. (Scarlett the Harlot on the message board)

Will can't ever forgive Ed and Em, he probably spends his spare time hatching plans rather than birds. (Purple_Hay on the message board)

Ed does exactly the same thing, it was petty of him to veto Will's suggestion of keeping the guinea pig at his house. (Auntie Molly on the message board)

If Ed really cared about George he would realise Will has an important role to play in his life rather than trying constantly to curtail it. (bebopalula on the message board)

Have your say on the message board: Will, you have reverted to being bitter and twisted

There was a big discussion about Emma's wedding invitation - and a whip round on the message board. Should she treat herself or would the money be better spent on George's trainers and jeans?

I'm quite touched by the Emma/Ed wedding storyline. I'm sure many young mothers end up feeling like cinderella. #thearchers (@BeckyIBe on Twitter)

Well, *I* want Emma to go to her London wedding. I know she`s done some shocking, selfish things in the past, but she IS a grafter and she does worry about feeding and clothing the kids... So I`m passing the hat around here. I do realise that I will probably be funding the whole expedition myself, but I thought it was worth a try. (Ambridge Forever Frittering on the message board)

I think they BOTH should go. They don't get much fun. (Elizabeth Church on the message board)

Oh my word. Over the decades it's always been the Grundys to bring the lump to the throat. #thearchers (@SJG99 on Twitter)

To treat themselves while the kids need shoes or meat for dinner would be unforgivable in my book. (Dailyfix on the message board)

She needs to grow up, stop being so selfish and get a job instead of moaning about having no money. She has created her own problems, George would be much better off with his dad. Emma has become every bit as irritating as her mother. (Christine Jones on Facebook)

By the way, Emma, you know that bed you made? Well, you're lying in it. #thearchers (@fairy_with_hair on Twitter)

Please give generously: Well, *I* want Emma to go to her London wedding

Kenton's job swap idea gets the big thumbs down from most listeners. What was he thinking?

Honestly, Kenton, you are the limit! You can't just hand out jobs in a business you don't own. #thearchers (@SpareMousie on Twitter)

Kenton the Obnoxious - that's what he is (Arthur Vezin on Facebook)

#TheArchers Can't see Kirsty would be too chuffed. Shouldn't she have 1st dibs at managing Jaxx? (@MeAndMissMcGee on Twitter)

Everything Kenton touches is a total mess- except he never takes responsibility himself. (Earldunda on the message board)

If Kenton had stopped to think about all this and how it affected him in particular, he might not have proposed the daft idea. What happens if his relationship with Jolene founders? He has given up a reasonable position which marks him out as an independent man who works in the same industry as his partner. (atalik on the message board)

Join the debate: Jolene and Fallon won't be happy about it?

Is Rhys a catch for Fallon? Her recent conversation with Ed raised some hopes that perhaps they'd get back together. But maybe a reformed Jazzer would be a better bet?

Too cute. Rhys and Fallon. #thearchers (@SueHomeyard on Twitter)

now jazzer is being housetrained by jim he may become quite the catch. And then what will fallon do #thearchers (@ElizabethJane55 on Twitter)

I'm still hoping for Fallon and Ed. #TheArchers (@Airscaper on Twitter)

Seriously if Fallon doesn't get with Rhys, I'm going to Ambridge and snapping him up myself. #thearchers (@janemortimer on Twitter)

As Lynda prepares for Ambridge's Elizabethan Christmas some think Lynda's recruitment techniques leave something to be desired

The Snell woman is the worst sort of nosey parker, busybody. (clarityjames on the message board)

La Smell is a royal pain in the butt. I bet she was chased out of Sunningdale by enraged neighbours who had enough of her incessant but carefully judged bullying and hectoring; the sort of selfish railroading she used on Kirsty. (barwick_green on the message board)

Every village has a Linda, my own included... the harsh fact is that the Lindas of this world do quite a lot to support and cement village life and we are all conscious of this. Therefore, and somewhat grudgingly, we will do the village panto and we will pitch up for the village tidy up etc. I do think the character is accurate and it is a good sign that I can love her in one episode and loathe her in the next. (ian_wilts on the message board)

Love her or loathe her? Add your thoughts to the Why can't somebody... thread on the message board.

They were much more positive about Robert's ideas for the show..

Linda and Richard creating a @the_globe in the village hall for their Much Ado, my new favourite storyline #thearchers (@charliemorley on Twitter)

Go Robert! #thearchers. He is brilliant, awwww lyndie... (ElizabethLouisa on Twitter)

No one has ever said to me I'll build you a Globe Theatre....wanna Robert please! #thearchers (@40lucyjordan on Twitter)

And I'll leave you with the dilemma listeners faced on Sunday night as Austrian Felix Baumgarten prepared to enter the record books with the highest ever sky dive.

Wait - is this jump from the edge of space thing going to clash with #thearchers? That's just bad planning! (@beckyblackbooks on Twitter)

Looks like Nigel finally lost his longest freefall record #thearchers #stratos #baumgartner (@coatgal on Twitter)

"The Morecambe and Wise of Ambridge" - listener discussions to 10 October 2012

Post categories:

Tayler Cresswell Tayler Cresswell | 21:45 UK time, Sunday, 14 October 2012

twitter quote

There's a "fine bromance" blossoming in Ambridge as housemates Jazzer and Jim go from odd couple to "dream team", though some listeners are wondering whether a transformation is on the cards for one of the pair.

Things aren't looking quite as rosy for Tiger and Pusscat, with speculation mounting that Lilian might be "struggling loose", possibly into the arms of soon-to-arrive Paul.

Slim pickings for Emma and Ed have prompted many helpful listeners to suggest economic approaches to feeding the family, including a wartime diet and a stint being guinea pigs for Tom's ready meals.

And as prospects improved for Tom's business, questions were being asked about Brenda's "uncertain" response to the grand designs her fiancé has for their future.

Here's my pick of listener discussions on The Archers message board, Twitter and Facebook between 4 and 10 October 2012.

The consensus among the listeners seems to be that the friendship between Jazzer and Jim is very good news for Ambridge, though there was little agreement on who the unlikely pair resemble the most.

Aw, Jazza and Jim: next Terry and June? #thearchers (@Lennybun on Twitter)

Jim and Jazzer - the Morecambe and Wise of Ambridge #thearchers (@annie_blackmore on Twitter)

Loving the new 'Odd Couple' in @BBCTheArchers. Jazzer and Jim, a genius pairing. (@ace_diamond99 on Twitter)

Jim & Jazzer - the new Men Behaving Badly? (@ShirleyAnstey on Twitter)

Just when I think #thearchers cannot be improved Jazzer moves in with Jim - excellent. (@Mikef45 on Twitter)

Yes, I'm liking the scenes of Prof and Jazzer. Somehow it's more convincingly blokey than anything Kenton or Dave ever does. (Anniewitchway on the message board)

A fine Bromance indeed. I think they are good for each other. (Damejintymcginty on the message board)

The best SL for absolutely ages and beautifully acted. I love listening to their conversations and can't help smiling when I hear their exchanges. Hope it lasts! (Poodlesparlour on the message board)

That was quite moving. And he is civilising Jazzer. Have his talents no end? (Perkin Warbeck on the message board)

Morecombe and Wise or Terry and June? Have your say in the Jimus has a heart and Jazzers home at last threads on the message board.

Jazzer's newly acquired skills in washing up had some listeners wondering just how far the Scotsman's transformation will go - and whether Jim might have something along the lines of My Fair Laddy in mind.

Jim and Christine have adopted Jazzer - it's a modern pygmalion! (@Nigelgoodboo on Twitter)

It is not for nowt that he has ended up at Jim's. Jim is going to be Jazzer's Professor Higgins or that OU tutor to Jazzer's Rita. (Pollyanna on the message board)

I'm not convinced. I don't think he wanted to actually read the book - Jim will probably find it jamming the window open. But we can live in hope. (Skerryscraper on the message board)

It would be wonderful if Jazzer could be rehabilitated, interesting too and, I think, believable. (antique acorn on the message board)

Hasn't Jazzer already been rehabilitated? From Meadow Rise ne'er-do-well to hardworking milkman and pigman? I don't want him turned into a Jimus Mini-Me. He's fine (and fun!) just as he is. (Ambridge Forever Frittering on the message board)

"Is Jazzer being rehabilitated?". I'd rather the opposite was the case, and that Jazzer turns Jim into a slob. (sgspecial on the message board)

Who's changing who? Have your say in the Is Jazzer being rehabilitated? thread.

Pusscat's chilly treatment of Matt makes her more of a Snow Leopard lately, and the listeners have noted the change in her demeanour. Has she just had enough of his "rugged charm" or is her mind on someone else?

Brrrr, it's frosty in the Amside office this morning. #thearchers (@fairy_with_hair on Twitter)

Ooh Tiger. Is Puss struggling loose? #thearchers (@MsAlliance on Twitter)

And off she flounced, not even a token 'darling'. #thearchers (@2ndcitysuit on Twitter)

Tiger is a rat! (Heather Hughes on Facebook)

Tiger, Pussycat has SO lost interest in your rugged devil may care charms.. #thearchers (@MUSEmunkey on Twitter)

Lilian and Paul: I can't wait for them to meet. Looking forward to this one. (Constanza on the message board)

Lilian can't just pick up where she left off, she made her choice. PS I would like her to ditch Matt though! (Angela Stepney on the message board)

Find out what other listeners are saying about Lilian's feelings for Matt in the Significance of Arthur's conversation? thread.

As the hard times continue for Emma and Ed, sympathy for their situation is waning as many listeners think they could be doing more to help themselves. However, there are still some suggestions coming in that might help them to improve their lot.

Just done a quick online calculation and even putting Ed's earnings at £20000, which I very much doubt, and Emma's at £2000 for her cleaning job at Brookfield they would qualify for over £40 a week in Child Tax Credits. That would buy a lot of beans and bread! (Virtual_jan on the message board)

I know they're only grumbling to each other, but I have little patience with people who grizzle and grizzle about problems that could be solved if they'd only take the actions needed to do so. (charmingAnnieLynn on the message board)

Emma was meant to have an interest in food and her mother is very resourceful - she should be able to manage stuff from scratch not be wanting all packet stuff. (Ginslinger Redux on the message board)

Ed'n'Em wanna get "The Wartime Farm". Loaded with handy tips about how they made do when times wuz 'ard. Riveting stuff. Petrol, meat cuts, cooking with 'hay boxes' - it's all in there! (TufTanya on the message board)

Poor Ed is obviously really hungry - he needs a large helping of steak and kidney pudding on a daily basis and proper breakfasts. Couldn't they keep a few chickens? (Ruralrambler on the message board)

Ed may be a dairy farmer but he desperately needs the milk of human kindness. All he's getting at the moment is hard cheese! (Taleteller on the message board)

Couldn't Ed & Emma volunteer to test Tom's ready meals? #TheArchers (@cha0tic on Twitter)

Got something to add? Head over to the I'm sending Ed & Em a food parcel thread on the message board.

Finally, Brenda's reticence whenever Tom talks of marriage and plans for the future has had listeners wondering what might be up. Does she want to stay with Tom or could she be waiting for something better to come along in the form of a returning James?

Brenda sounded very uncertain. And who can blame her? (@SteveBrooks13 on Twitter)

One more sign that Brenda really isn't interested in long-term commitment to Tom. (Bette on the message board)

Tom has noticed that she seems to back off every time he talks about the future - she either changes the subject or, when that is not an option, as tonight, comes over all obtuse as though she doesn't know what he means ( "a house? For us?" no, for Jazzer of course.) (Auntie Molly on the message board)

Or if she really can't imagine spending the rest of her life with him, she has to take the plunge and let him go. James is coming to stay next week. Didn't Brenda have a thing with him at one stage? (flameofthewest on the message board)

If she dosen't see her future with Tom I hope she jolly well gets on and tells him soon. (Fabsupergran on the message board)

She sounded like she was losing interest to me. Like the thought of them building a house together almost horrified her. (Toffee on the message board)

I think Bren should find someone more interesting and leave Tom well behind.... (RAFromSw on the message board)

"C'mon Emma, buck up" - listener discussions to 3 October 2012

Post categories:

Tayler Cresswell Tayler Cresswell | 10:32 UK time, Friday, 5 October 2012

Twitter quote

Trouble was in store for Ed after he made some unwise remarks about Emma's low-cost cooking. This prompted widespread disapproval from listeners and some surprised feelings of sympathy towards "moaning minny" Emma.

There was no such compassion for Tom. Many predict (hope?) his "bonkers" ready meals business will end badly - along with his relationship with Brenda.

"Good for you, Lilian!" was the collective cheer as Pusscat let out a "splendidly furious" roar of disapproval at devious Matt for his underhand treatment of Amside tenants Arthur and Joyce.

Meanwhile, what was Christine thinking when she let in Jazzer and his bin liner full of belongings? As for Jim, is Jazzer a "new project" for him?

And as Vicky comes to terms with the probable reality of her future daughter's life, listeners are reassured that she realises "it won't just be all pink paint and teddy bears".

Here's my pick of listener discussions on The Archers message board, Twitter and Facebook between 27 September and 3 October 2012

With financial troubles taking their toll on Emma and Ed, plenty were unimpressed with Ed's criticism of Emma's cooking skills - though not everyone was prepared to put their antipathy towards Emma on hold.

I hope Emma smears fish paste over Ed's shirts. #thearchers (@BeckyIBe on Twitter)

Rule 1 Ed Grundy: if you tell your partner your mother is a better cook you'll soon end up back living with your mother. #thearchers (@AnneLiddon on Twitter)

Ed has succeeded in the impossible - I felt a momentary shaft of sympathy for Emma, the moaning minny #thearchers (@boorach2 on Twitter)

C'mon Emma, buck up - beans, spaghetti in tomato sauce, jacket potatoes! (Kate Summerside on Facebook)

Not only does Clarrie seem to be able to manage her money better, she managed to remain cheerful most of the time. Emma, on the other hand, snaps, whinges and gripes 24/7. (JudithL on the message board)

I believe that Emma loves Ed too much to walk out on him. Money has become a huge problem for them and like most couples in their situation they are arguing about it a lot. They will come through this tough time I am sure. (Scarlett the Harlot on the message board)

Join the debate in the My mum always managed to... and Will Ed go back to mummy threads on the message board.

If Tom's been having a hard time getting his ready meals business off the ground then he'd be well advised to look elsewhere for sympathy as listeners have the knives well and truly out for him this week.

Why does Tom ask anyone's opinion? #ihatetomarcher (@iluvthearchers on Twitter)

Oh diddums Tom a bad day? Smallest violin being tuned up. #thearchers (@gothiron on Twitter)

It feels as if this might be the time he gets too big for his boots, but I've been disappointed before. (Dora Pandle on the message board)

#TomTranslator "Sometimes I'm not sure Brenda is as impressed with me as I am" #thearchers (@jdg_99 on Twitter)

And he certainly made Brenda see how much her opinion meant to him - in effect "I know you have doubts but I'm going to ignore them and go ahead anyway so go back to sewing your samplers dere" (Bracton on the message board)

All this whilst he also has a job to do on the family farm. Let's hope that he's bankrupt by Christmas. (Borrowed Time on the message board)

Did anyone hear about the pigs who ate the farmer? Could this happen to Tom? Please. (elizabeth church on the message board)

Leave your advice for Tom or Brenda on the message board threads: Good morning Dragons and Please, please, pretty please.

After discovering Matt's blasé attitude to health and safety at Joyce and Arthur's place, Lilian was in no mood for any nonsense, giving him a firm talking to - and delighting many listeners in the process.

Ooh she's marvellous when she's angry! #TheArchers (@thecaromac on Twitter)

Oh 'eck Pussycat's really on the warpath now wouldn't want to be in Tigers hand stitched loafers.. #thearchers (@MUSEmunkey on Twitter)

Good for you Lillian! Just keep your eye on the devious Matt. He'll wriggle out and cause more chaos if you let him! (Buzylizzypargeter on the message board)

Splendidly furious is all very well and good but I'm starting to feel that it's time Matt was given his marching orders. How many times is Lilian going to forgive him? She really shouldn't put up with it. (Siriol on the message board)

She really should kick Matt not only into touch but all the way out to the bleachers. Everything's in Lilian's name after all and he wouldn't have a leg to stand on. (Nik Tobutt on Facebook)

Add your thoughts to the Well done Lillian!! thread on the message board.

As Jazzer packed up his belongings in a bin liner and left the home he'd shared with Harry, some think Jim has karma knocking at his door...

OOoooo Poor Jimus!!!!! Having Jazzer as a houseguest... (Threewellsofmyown on the message board)

Jazzer is the BEST THING ON RADIO EVER. Better than Orson Welles. Better than ANYTHING. #thearchers (@mudkipstoat on Twitter)

Jim, remember how you treated Shula and Alistair when you stayed with them? Karma is knocking at your door! #thearchers (@SpareMousie on Twitter)

He could always put his head inside the roman oven! (Angela Stepney on the message board)

So do we have an Odd Couple comedic scenario? Or A Taming the Shrew? (aquaticDougal on the message board)

Jim and Jazzer. Now THAT'S a flat-share sit-com spin-off I'd tune into. #TheArchers (@SteveDoherty1 on Twitter)

Add your commiserations for Jimus or Jazzer on the message board thread: OOoooo Poor Jimus!!!!!.

Vicky's tears on Wednesday had listeners appreciating the fact that she's coming to terms with the reality of the situation

I felt real sympathy for Vicky tonight - she is at last taking on board some of the reality of what her child's life may be - not to say it will be all negative but she seems to actually be realising that it won't just be all pink paint and teddy bears (Ruralrambler on the message board)

I did like that interchange between Vicky and Lynda about doors closing and opening doors, I thought it was very moving. (old cath on the message board)

I think that Vicky's up-to-now viewpoint of "my baby can do ANYTHING" had the danger of her possibly pushing her child towards unrealistic goals, and making the whole family miserable in the process. Maybe now Vicky and Mike might even [gasp!] have a conversation about something deeper than wallpaper borders, and actually feel like they're getting some real emotional support from each other. (charmingAnnielynne on the message board)

What a double-edged sword parenthood is - so much joy and so much heartbreak right from the moment know you are pregnant #TheArchers (@amandaahatfield on Twitter)

I'd like to cry on Lynda's shoulder if I'm ever upset. She sounds great for that sort of thing. #thearchers (@NebulaHugo on Twitter)

"Uncle Tiger is up to something" - listener discussions to 26 September 2012

Twitter quote

Look out Lilian! Matt Crawford's up to something. Is he whisking her off to Paris because Paul Morgan is back on the scene, or is he hiding problems at Amside?

Romance was in the air at last Thursday's comedy night at The Bull. But who was romancing Kirsty? And will Fallon soon be dating Rhys? Listeners decide she "could do better".

There's relationship advice for Brenda, who's doomed to become the "Cinderella of the Ready Meal" if she's not careful; and financial tips for poor Emma Grundy.

And listeners say goodbye and "thanks for all the fry ups" to Rosalind Adams, better known as "Clarrieluv".

Here's my pick of listener discussions on The Archers message board, Twitter and Facebook between 20-26 September 2012.

Should Lilian get in touch with Paul Morgan? Of course she should! Matt's surprise on Tuesday raised suspicions - is he taking her away to Paris because he wants to hide something sinister going on at Amside or because he feels vulnerable that Paul is on the scene?

I *heart* Paul Morgan. Or, as I like to call him, Lilian's 'Missed Opportunity'. #thearchers (@jtwentyman on Twitter)

Of course she should get in touch with him. She should have dumped Matt long ago. (Christine Jones on Facebook)

No her and Matt are a great double act love Lillian x (Therasa Kay Chapman on Facebook)

I think Uncle Tiger is up to something nefarious. (Dr Vintneres-Driver FRCOG on the message board)

A shiver ran down my spine when Matt said something a bit sinister at the end.. Like, 'don't you ever forget it'. (firesprite on the message board)

Well hopeless old romantic me. I didn't hear menace in Matt's 'Don't you ever forget it'. I heard a vulnerability/need... What better cure for your old lady mooning after a rival than to whisk her away to Paris and spoil her a bit. Matt doesn't want to give up Lillian and he needs her dosh as well as her love. (anniewitchway on the message board)

If Tiger is 'vulnerable and needy', then I truly hope Lilian brings the rotter to his knees; I think she should have a full blown affair with Paul before it's too late (Nemo99 on the message board)

Join the debate on the message board: Now what's that smell of scorched rodent?

After last Thursday's disastrous comedy night at The Bull, silent comic Tug Fowler was named the Marcel Marceau of the comedy circuit. But who was chatting to Kirsty that night? Once listeners realised it was Ifty, they wondered what Tracy would make of it?

I also spent a few puzzled moments trying to figure out who this stranger was... I was rather pleased to hear him and Kirsty hitting it off - he's already been mentioned repeatedly as a nice, nice-looking man, and lord knows Kirsty deserves to meet one after being such a good sport as to agree to tag along and sleep in close proximity to Jazzer for several nights on the recent roadtrip... (charmingAnnielynn on the message board)

blimey he's smooth though isn't it he, with the ladeez.. i hear imran khan. ps - tracey will be furious. hurrah! (irene on the message board)

#thearchers Ifty & Kirsty!! Tracy will scratch her eyes out. (@SteveBrooks13 on Twitter)

Is romance also on the cards for Fallon? After their stilted conversation over a meal in Felpersham, most - but not quite all - think Rhys may be her Mr Wrong.

Rhys wears t-shirts with unfunny and offensive slogans on them, and shirts with the sleeves always rolled up. He has an over-sized 'sports' watch with lots of pointless functions on it, and a big 'look at me' bunch of keys on his belt which he likes to jiggle with. He smells of Lynx. He has a range of unpleasant slouching poses which usually involve splayed legs. (Tadpole on the message board)

Oh Fallon you can do so much better. #thearchers (@TonysConsultant on Twitter)

I just wish Fallon would get the briefcase out of Ambridge before it is too late. (Scarlett the Harlot on the message board)

Reece is DEFINITELY marriage material! Come on Fallon! #thearchers (@mymates263 on Twitter)

Is that it for Fallon then? Have your say on the message board.

Is it Tom's relentless focus on the ready meals that's putting Brenda off marrying him? Listeners say they wouldn't blame her and wonder if Tom's heading for a ready-meal-shaped fall...

Tom, she's looked at Tony and seen the future. #thearchers (@HelenJaneGrady on Twitter)

Brenda, stay with him and you'll end up being the Cinderella of the Ready Meal #thearchers (@boorach2 on Twitter)

Can Tom get enough pigs fattened up in time to have them in pork format by October half-term? If yes, can he pay Neil or whoever for an increased quantity? If no, can he afford to buy in pork/ pigs to meet the deadline? (JacksParakeet on the message board)

If I rented a cottage and they offered a welcome pack offering some dubious chilled pork products from a company I'd never heard of I'd say no thanks and do what I usually do which is stop off at the nearest supermarket to get a pizza and salad... (Vicky S on the message board)

"Ask Will to pay!" is the almost deafening advice from listeners as Emma struggles to make ends meet

I do wish Emma would sound a bit happier. She is so depressing. I thought Ed and the children and a proper house were all she wanted in life. It seems not. George does have a father who would happily pay for Karate lessons if only he had been asked. (libranmeg on the message board)

I kept shouting at the radio "William can pay!", so if you were in Kent this evening and heard me, I apologise. (Rettergrap on the message board)

Emma is trapped in a prison of her own making and looking over the wall at Will & Nic adds to her bitterness. I think this slow burn SL has years to run and has been very well done so far. (Dailyfix on the message board)

Have your say on the Emma-moaning yet again and Let his father pay for karate threads on the message board.

News that Rosalind Adams is leaving the programme saddened many. There has been some debate about whether her character should be written out rather than recast?

It's a really shame, but I'd MUCH rather have a new Clarrie than have her written out. Much. (Pauline Stroud on Facebook)

yes good effort Rosalind and thanks for all the fry-ups x (Christopher King on Facebook)

@BBCTheArchers I'll miss you Rosalind Adams. You've made me laugh & cry. The scenes when you came back after going missing, so moving. (@missy_t_k on Twitter)

@BCTheArchers will always remember "one day my prince will come" #clarrie (@Gorman6 on Twitter)

I think she deserves a medal for putting up with the Grundies for 25 years! Who would make a good replacement? Pam Ayres, perhaps? (The Famous Eccles on the message board)

What a great character she's made Clarrie over the years. But hope you have a long and happy retirement, Rosalind, and thank you. (ermintrude on the message board)
