Alex Scott bows out in Musicals Week
After 11 fantastic weeks in the competition, the time has come for former footballer Alex Scott to hang up her dancing shoes.
She performed a feel-good Samba with Pro Partner Neil Jones in Musicals Week to the tune of Joyful Joyful from Sister Act. But while the couple's colourful routine impressed the Judges, it landed them bottom of the leaderboard with a score of 27.
After their score was combined with the public vote, Alex and Neil found themselves in their first Dance Off this series. They faced Chris Ramsey and his partner Karen Hauer - also in their first ever Dance Off - who performed a Foxtrot to Consider Yourself from Oliver!.
Once both couples had danced again, it was over to the Judges to make the final decision. The panel was split, with Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse opting to save Alex and Neil, while Bruno Tonioli and Shirley Ballas chose to keep Chris and Karen in the competition.
As Head Judge, Shirley's vote was final, securing Chris and Karen a place in next week's Semi Final. When making her decision, Shirley said: "Both couples danced extremely well and for me it’s going to go personal taste - and I’m going to go with the couple that I felt had the most content and more powerfully entertaining, and therefore I am saving Chris and Karen.”
Despite the result, Alex couldn't help but smile while talking about her time on the show, telling Tess: “I’ve been a fan of Strictly forever, so to even be here and dance here every week... I’ve loved every moment and I have to thank everyone, and everyone behind the scenes to make this show work. I’ve literally lived out another dream, I had football and then this chapter. I have to thank my dancer partner, he’s incredible. Thank you to everyone.”
Likewise, Neil had fond words for Alex, saying: “I’ve been so lucky because I got a partner - and I got you! You were the best. You were so good. She’s taught me so much.”
We're really going to miss this wonderful pair! You can see them together for one last time on Monday's It Takes Two on BBC Two at 6.30pm.
