Week 5 - Rehearsal Footage

Post categories:

BBC Strictly Suzy | 12:45 UK time, Thursday, 27 October 2011

Strictly is getting spooky this weekend and we have a sneaky peek at how our little monsters are getting on in rehearsals. Our remaining 11 couples will perform specially-themed Halloween performances this Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One, but which poor souls will be leaving the ballroom through the trap door?

Can Nancy avoid the chop this week? And will Alex scare her dancing demons away with that skirt movement? Let us know what you think by checking out week 5 rehearsals:

  • Comment number 1.

Halloween special isn't my favourite night of Strictly but looking forward to it all the same.
I really hope the song choices fit the dances this year!

  • Comment number 2.

Bit unfair on Howard Greenfield & Jack Keller who wrote the original Bewitched theme music which Steve Lawrence slowed down to Foxtrot speed & added lyrics for the film version.

Surely the original would be far better for a Quickstep.

  • Comment number 3.

    Hi all,

Early doors there are some fantastic routines here but some pure horror shows which have taken me by surprise.

Who I will be watching out for this week are.

Alex and James's Paso hopefully this will get them back into the game again because I know I criticised their rumba as being boring but after her reaction to getting saved from the bottom two I felt sorry for poor Alex and I hope they do well.

Anita and Robin, Chelsee and Pasha, and Harry and Aliona, 3 tangos and 3 different music choices the question is this the tango is passionate and sexy and in all honesty Chelsee and Pasha and Harry and Aliona I think they will capatalise on their great Saturday night last week to pull it out of the bag question is can Anita and Robin or is last week the best we have seen of them I know I'm supporting them but the jury is out on this one.

Jason and Kristina also rate here as well after the kick up the rear they got they have right choice of dance and right music choice and we will Jason back to his best after that Paso.

  • Comment number 4.

There are 3 routines I would consider instantly for my danger list 2 might not surprise 1 will because when I saw this dance choice and music choice I thought this is a joke.

Audley and Natalie sorry but the music choice is right but the jive is wrong as stated before Audley's top half is great half it's his bottom half that sticks out like a bad migrane and in all honesty I think this dance is going to seriously let him down now as I believe in my opinion the jive is a fast athletic dance and in all honesty Audley will stick out like a sore thumb.

Holly and Artem sorry but unless they get the chereography right this dance will finish them because in all honesty you do not dance an American Smooth to ballet music Swan Lake is a ballet and the American Smooth is danced to swing music, Sintara, Dean Martin, Micheal Buble is the music choices you would associate with an American Smooth not Tchaikovsky sorry but I think they have booed booed big time and it's going to cost them.

Nancy and Anton and another car crash routine from Team Nanton and in my opinion this will make James and Alex's flop of a rumba look like a grand final dance because Anton and Nancy do sexy and hot no way and enough said for me.

  • Comment number 5.

Absolutely adored Ola's dress last week! Where can I get one????

  • Comment number 6.

    4. Fergal

I assume Holly and Artem are dancing a viennese waltz american smooth so the music should fit perfectly.

  • Comment number 7.

Fergal. I agree. I was surprised by Hartem's song choice. Very odd. I just hope they pull it off!

  • Comment number 8.

Sorry BucksheeMcGuthrie there's only one dance style there and it is American Smooth and in all honesty I looked at the dance list on the blog here.

10 couples have totally the right dance choices here and then you get this an American Smooth danced to a composisition to a famous Russian ballet but I searched on Google to prove my therory and yes I got it wrong there are 4 dance styles in the American Snooth Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Vienesse Waltz.

But the American Smooth is a fast eneregtic dance not a slow dance it has to have rhythm and also is danced to a jazz music track and with this dance I think MGM, Cole Porter, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis JR basically I think MGM musicals, Fred and Ginger.

And to be honest in all my years of watching Strictly and this was when the American Smooth was introduced as a new dance on the show I have always believed that this dance should be danced to a jazz music soundtrack and not to a soundtrack from a ballet just doesn't work it's like the 3 Tenors singing a symphony and then suddenley bursting into a big band arrangement just doesn't go together.

It should be interesting to see if Team Hartem can pull it out of the bag but at the moment the jury is out I think they could be in danger this week.

  • Comment number 9.

Though I now have a basic understanding of the dances and American Smooth has 4 dance styles and you can pick 1 being the Vieneese Waltz which is the idea Team Hartem are going with but the questions are

How do they associate the routine with the Halloween theme.

And will the routine be their crowning achievement or send you to sleep with boredom.

Judging by the odd music choice and my opinion of the American Smooth associated with MGM musicals the jury is out.

    8 Fergal

You're right there are 4 dance styles to the american smooth. On strictly people normally choose to dance to a foxtrot american smooth which requires the same music more or less as standard ballroom, maybe traditionally a little quicker. A viennese waltz american smooth is danced to the same music as a viennese waltz and Artem on ITT tonight said it was a viennese waltz.

The only other VW I can think of that was danced in american smooth style was by ricky and erin a couple of years ago. I remember the judges really liking the choreography because it wasn't just another foxtrot AS.

I'm glad Artem has chosen to do something different from the norm and I look forward to the dance on Saturday, if Holly gets it right it should be beautiful.

    9 Fergal

I think the music was used in the film Black Swan starring Natalie Portman, where she gets the role of the white swan, in swan lake, but slowly loses her mind to become more like the black swan.

  • Comment number 12.

Hmm, Pasha & Chelsee, Anton & Nancy, we're supposed to guess how well their training is going are we?

  • Comment number 13.

Some challlenging music to dance to there. They will all still be on the natural high from all the recent exercise so it should be full performance all round. I'm struggling with the thought of Audley doing a convincing jive though. He is one giant of a man. Russell can just mince his way through the Samba and he should be fine. So far he has danced better than I would have imagined. Chelsee seems to be able to do any dance she wants - might stay on top for a while yet. I'm sure it will all be very entertaining. Wouldn't it be nice if it was all prop free, or is that asking too much?

  • Comment number 14.

    Hi all,

I think in all honesty Team Hartem should pull it out of the bag didn't see the film Black Swan but it is associated with the Halloween theme.

One couple I would have a worry about is Russell and Flavia now don't get me wrong he is a great guy but is he just a one trick pony because there are so many pop songs he can dance to before it starts to get repetitive same old thing every week.

As for Team Nanton a rumba sex and passion if CRH wants a demo of sexless, stiff and cold get him a ring side seat when Team Nanton come on.

    Night all

Looking forward to seeing Russell dance to Kylies Classic Better the Devil You Know, he is so much fun to watch, I will be behind the sofa when Nancy comes on surely this is the week that she goes she is the worst non dancer to have graced this show and she does not listen to Anton and thinks she knows better.

  • Comment number 16.

Think I know where Fergal is coming from.

AS always feels like it should be a swing dance rather than ballroom as such, which is possibly where the need for a classic musical/jazz/big-band score feels a more compatible and natural match.

I suspect the surprise of the night to be Audley & Natalie (no one should dismiss them with Natalie's skilful choreography).

Hope Lulu actually stops looking at the floor and looks at Brendan instead. Judging by the training she needs a huge collar (to stop her seeing her feet) rather than a baseball cap tipping her head forward all the time.

  • Comment number 17.

Oh no! You know what Len's going to say about Artem & Holly's AS to Swan Lake already!! I think it could be fabulous, and adored Artem & Kara's AS last year, and Matt & Aliona's contemporary version, but you know how Len wants to see a typically Hollywood 40s style AS. Let's hope there's no fireworks with the Judges this Saturday, or that will really be eeeeek! :0

  • Comment number 18.

I would like to give a HUGE big up to the amazing live singers. Wow, they are sensational, they can sing anything! They are better than the American ones. Absolutely brilliant. I wish the camera would show them to us more,I don;t know what the women look like at all. Fantastic! Of course the musicians as well, big ruspec'!!

  • Comment number 19.

and I thought Chelsea should have got a 10 this week, I really thought she was knock out.

  • Comment number 20.

    Good Luck everyone ♥♥
