Michelle Williams Leaves Strictly

Post categories:

BBC Eurovision Andrew BBC Eurovision Andrew | 20:00 UK time, Sunday, 14 November 2010

Michelle Williams and Brendan Cole became the sixth couple to leave this year's Strictly Come Dancing, just missing out on the chance to go to Blackpool next week. The American singing sensation performed a Paso Doble last night but was eliminated from the competition by a combination of the judges' scores and the public vote.

We were there on the dancefloor when the announcement was made, and caught up with a host of Strictly faces for their reactions to Michelle's exit.  Watch our exclusive video here and let us know your thoughts on tonight's results by leaving a comment below.

EXCELLENT result tonight. Fell off my seat as I had everything crossed Ann and Anton I thought you were gone. Glad to see you have proved me so wrong. Good luck for next Saturday, won't miss it for anything. Please give us more entertainment next week. Thank you.

  • Comment number 2.

Well there we have it. Michelle has gone and Felicity survives another week. I have to say now that, i am getting a bit peeved that Ann is not looking any closer to going at the minute but her time has to end soon. If she took it more seriously and didnt keep smart mouthing the judges then id have a bit more patience but I have to say it's ran out now!!!
ANN I WANT YOU OUT NOW!!!!!

  • Comment number 3.

Dont think in all honesty she really deserves to enjoy Blackpool! The show is supposed to be about dancing and showing improvement each week. Fair enough the entertainment factor is there as its sometimes comical but thats not what the show is about!!

Am just glad Felicity is still in the competition !, and yes i think Ann needs to go now. Because somebody good could go out instead of her. FELICITY TO WIN STRICTLY !!!!

  • Comment number 6.

Ann and Anton at Blackpool the entertainment capital of the world. A good result how far can Ann go lets hope to the final and then lift the glitter ball. This is not a serious dance show its entertainment.

  • Comment number 7.

How very disrespectful of Annie Lenox to appear on Strictly on Remeberance Sunday without wearing a poppy. Especially offensive given the soldiers appearance. Shame on Strictly allowing her to go on stage. If she didn't want to wear a poppy for her own reasons, then don't have her on stage that night. I think you should have said no poppy - no appearance - no fee.

  • Comment number 8.

I am glad Michelle has gone,
She annoyed me and made me wince.
The right decision aside from Ann Widdecombe.

  • Comment number 9.

Sad to see Michelle go, when there is quite clearly a far worse dancer still in, making a mockery of the whole show.. I have friends in the USA who will be gutted and will undoubtedly not bother to watch again.. at this rate, next yaer I think I'll join them.. WHY IS SHE STILL HERE???

Well, I read an article in the week that said the BBC were being accused of fixing the whole show because of what is going on, on the ..ahem..other side... Simple solution.. why dont the beeb show us all a leaderboard table for the voting?? (they can manage it for the judges scores) JOB DONE!

  • Comment number 10.

Can't understand how Anton and partner still survive. Can you please reconfirm how the voting works? Seems a farce. I think that you should vote for who you want to GO (which really should be someone who cannot dance), not who you wish to stay. That is why some good dancers (such as Jimi last week)are leaving, because the public are voting for the very top or the very bottom...namely the comedy act. I must say the other contestants are very gracious. If it was me I would rant and tear about it being strictly come dancing, not strictly come carry on.

  • Comment number 11.

Hopefully Ann and Anton win the whole thing. That might cause a few heads to scratch somewhere.

  • Comment number 12.

Beg to differ about the serious side to the show or why would there be serious judges in place!

  • Comment number 13.

Right result,Brendan did put heart and soul to get Michelle to the standard lookedout for,but the passo was not gutsy enough, well done Brendan,.. With all due respect to Right Honourable Anne Widicombe, please do the right thing and release Anton.Chris,Blackpool.
    P.S.GIVE US A SNOG GAVIN.

  • Comment number 14.

can that so-called 'doctor' please shut her mouth. she is not a real doctor!! she is a good dancer tho. scott to win

  • Comment number 15.

    CARRY ON DANCING ANN

  • Comment number 16.

Tonight's result would be fair if it Ann and Anton had already gone already. They have to go next week, they are the worst! The country's economic situation can't be that bad if people have money to waste to keep voting them in.

  • Comment number 17.

Finally!!!! She's been doing my head in more than Ann since it started!

Glad Matt and Aliona got called out first :)

    Roll on Blackpool!

  • Comment number 18.

lesliebutt, after your comment that you would vote for A/A even without seeing them dance I think your opionion can safely be discounted.....

    Come on Blackpool!!!

  • Comment number 21.

oh my i think Ann Widecombe could win Strictly... i really hope not!

  • Comment number 22.

I'm glad to be living in a country where people can vote for whoever they choose on a telly programme.

And where Annie Lennox can decide for herself whether or not to wear a poppy.

    Sheesh.

  • Comment number 23.

She's my favourite dragon and lets hope Brucie carries on till he'90.

  • Comment number 24.

Well done people that voted for Ann. Once again ,by a million miles the WORST dancer AND the poorest entertainment ! Did you notice the judges votes for Ann and Anton ? -THESE are EXPERTS - some of the BEST in their field.Probably most of the best musicals that YOU RAVE about in the West End and Broadway have been choreographed by one or two of them. But YOU tell me week after week that they don't know what they're talking about. Give me a break !!

Did you also see Vincents face when it was down to him and Anton for the last place in the final two? HE KNEW !! W H Y ????

I defy anyone who voted for Ann again to look in the mirror, put their hand on the Bible (or whatever) and swear on the life of their children that Ann was NOT the poorest dancer YET AGAIN. Go on....TRY IT.

You're purely and simply just trying to cause upset and controversy.

Actually, you make me feel a little bit queasy. That's as kind as I can put it.

Poor old Ann (NOT that OLD actually) She can't get near the losing couple on the floor at the end. Either she doesn't want to or the rest of them don't make room for her. They're so cheesed off with her.

Now it gets REALLY interesting. Very soon someone EXTREMELY good is going to leave instead of her because, mark my words she WILL win it.

You really all should be quite ashamed of yourselves..FAIR PLAY? Don't make me laugh!

  • Comment number 25.

Shame Michelle went. She goofed more times than I've backed three legged horses but she did try. Just not hard enough. Going by how thin she is, getting her face stuck in about a fish supper in Blackpool wouldn't have done her any harm either.

  • Comment number 26.

This was not her strongest week, but sorry to see her go.
At the recap Anton gave Ann a reprimand, he looked fed-up with her rudeness to me.

Just over the moon to see Matt and Aliona going to Blackpool! That is the most important thing in my humble opinion.

  • Comment number 27.

For every angry comment about Ann made here, I will vote for her once next week.

Current vote count from me alone: 12!

  • Comment number 28.

Ann & Anton !!! If this goes on much longer I'm going need committing !The great British public at it again. No wonder we're rubbish at everything when we're backing losers instead of people who actually make an effort at the very least. Strictly is the highlight of my winter and its being spoilt. Joke over now guys !!

  • Comment number 29.

Of the two dancers I think Michelle was just a tad better than Felicity, but I think she had a stranger temperment last night and I suppose I'm glad she's has gone.
Both Michelle and Felicity are 1000 times better than AW though, but that is another story!!!

Yet another travesty!! The worst dancers and they are smug and cocky with the judges! When are we going to see the back of Ann and Anton? This is spoiling a good show BBC! Bring back the dance off before this generates into farce.

  • Comment number 32.

my husband and myself watch strickly every week, and find it hard to believe that Ann widocommbe is still in, we thought it was supposed to be strickly come dancing ,not strickly come entertainment, we feel its discusting how those like Ann obviously cant dance well, are still in the competion, and yet obviously good dancers far better then Ann are very sadly voted out of the competion, we hope something will be done about this ,before all the good dancers are gone, when they so deserve to be still in. from julie jess

What a stupid comment, you have no idea what the reason was and are just making assumptions without any information whatsoever.

  • Comment number 35.

Interesting point, Fiddler (msg 24) about AW not getting a look in at the end of tonight's show.
I can recall John Sargeant not actually appearing at the end of some shows were he survived.
Could there be an undercurrent that is being kept from us....

    I HOPE SO!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment number 36.

stavrosian...you better have a very healthy bank balance!!!! lol

  • Comment number 37.

Annie Lenox was quite obviously recorded at an earlier date as are a number of guest performances I just dont know how they manage to keep brucie from popping up infront of thr camera.

  • Comment number 38.

stavrosian, your strange voting beliefs are all Greek to me!

  • Comment number 39.

oh and johnjazz, they fought and died for freedom of speech and thought....'nuff said

  • Comment number 40.

I can't understand those that say that A.W. should be out of this dancing programme.

It's an entertainment programme - dancing is secondary.

  • Comment number 41.

Anne and Anton were with the othr danceers at the end and went to see Michelle you must be watching a different tv or not concentrating Ian and Fiddler.

  • Comment number 42.

    WHAT DATE IS THE FINAL?

I've tried searching the various sites but can't find a date for the 'Final' night. We're going to organise a party but want to make sure we get the right night. Does anyone know for definite when it is?

  • Comment number 43.

Well, I guess it was time for Michelle to be voted off. She tried her best but never really looked like becoming a good ballroom dancer. However with a voice like hers I dont think it will be the end of her career!!!!!
Onwards to Blackpool and good luck to all!

Wish I'd been lucky enough to get a ticket in the draw........

  • Comment number 44.

lesliebutt - I never said she was not there, I simply drew a comparison to two years ago.

    Please read posts carefully!

Good point Leslie, of course her performance was recorded.

But even if it wasn't she has every right to wear a poppy or not.

That's the sort of freedom many people dies to protect.

  • Comment number 47.

I love watching this program, but i just can,t understand why Ann is still there,i always thaught the people voted on the dancing but it seem,s to me that the voters vote for who you are and not on how you can dance and i think its a great shameas it has spoiled the whole show because people who can dance are being sent home and the people who can,t dance at all are still in the show just nit fair BBC you should do something about it Very Angry viewer from the netherlands

  • Comment number 48.

Thank you for your comment Fiddler. I completely agree with you. This is a serious dance competition (it has been since the start) Ann winning will turn everything upside down and I don't know if the show will continue after that. What a shambles!

I've got one question - why are you voting for Ann? Be honest.

  • Comment number 49.

johnjazz - I personally put a large donation in the collection tin at the office but did not wear a poppy this year.

You must not judge an induvidual's beliefs based on their appearance, and personnaly I think having everyone wearing a poppy is just another example political correctness.

  • Comment number 50.

I agree with johnjazz it is disrespectful of annie lennox she needs to remember that the sacrifice made by all the soldiers in all conflicts were made for our freedom of speech we enjoy these days it wouldn't hurt to show a little respect for that sacrifice they have made, world aids day isn't untill 1st december why does she need to thrust it in our face this early

  • Comment number 51.

23 lesliebutt.Glad you agree that she is a dragon.. but your FAVOURITE dragon,--how many do you know?
27 stavrosian stupido stupido stupido....I know, that wasnt very intelligent but i thought i'd try to speak your language.Stavros -wasnt he Dr who's enemy. Dr Who, the good guy.

  • Comment number 52.

Helly - an educated guess is that the final will be the last Saturday before Christmas (Dec 18th).

  • Comment number 53.

Who on earth keeps voting for Ann Widdecombe? She is truly dire.

There must be some sadists out there who want to ruin it for everyone.

  • Comment number 54.

With Michelle and Brendan gone this means we will have a new professional champion this year.

Not surprised about Michelle's exit since she had been in the bottom two three times already.

Question now is will Ann go next week at Blackpool just like Craig Kelly

  • Comment number 55.

Please please give me strength to watch another week of that woman thinking she is so clever mouthing off at the judges and her hideous atempts at dancing.GO already !!!!

  • Comment number 56.

I can sense my phone feeling some kind of trepidation about the number of times I'm going to be tapping the "Ann and Anton" hotline number next week.

A vote for Ann is a vote for real dancing! None of this airbrushed rubbish that the others are doing. Warts and all or nothing at all!

  • Comment number 57.

36 dragon...all A2's supporters have healthy bank balances which is why they can vote so often. She's hardly going to attract the votes of the thinking poor.
i think everyone must have noticed Antons withdrawal from her after the dance but it is a fact that will be stubbornly ignored by her very silly supporters. He actually said"you didnt give them a chance to speak did you?"Being rude is being rude regardless of how posh an accent it's done with. I should be allowed to post this on the A2 thread but we both know that's impossible

  • Comment number 58.

Hooray! Ann is still in!!!! Strictly stopped being a "dance" competition ages ago - any thin young woman can win simply by following a good male dancer - Can't they, Alesha? Can't they Natasha? - it's so much harder for the men and for bigger, older women. I adore Anton and love the way Ann is completely her own woman. That said - Matt or Scott to win!!!!

  • Comment number 59.

indeed, I reckon stavrosian will fit right in there though!! lol

  • Comment number 60.

    Brilliant Logic "stavrosian" 27 .

    I rest my case.!!

  • Comment number 61.

    Oh maz1, get a life.

Its not a serious dance competition its a TV show. You'll be saying next that Eastenders is a profound exposée of life in our capital city. Of course, if it was a real competition Ann Widecombe wouldn't have made it through the preliminary selection, come to that nor would Tess Daly be comparing it, but then neither would it be on television.

By the way the Archers is not a tale of everyday country folk, they are all actors and Ambridge was invented. Sorry to disappoint you.

  • Comment number 62.

    @ AndyPandy
The Beeb don't give us the scores because I reckon they are dodgy.
I've been looking at the judges scores and trying to reconcile them to the ultimate decision about who goes, and week on week the maths is getting more suspicious! I find it hard to believe that Ann holds so much of the public vote to keep her in each week, especially this week when the judges score only gave her 2 points. The public vote had to have put Michelle / Brendan and Felicity / Vincent last [1 and 2 ponts respectively] to put them in the bottom two couples. Well, in order for Anne to not go out the public vote must have allotted her 5 points or more, which places her in all probability above at least ONE OTHER couple [the other eventuality is that the public vote produced at least one tie, which given the number of people voting is highly unlikely].
    Scary stuff!

  • Comment number 63.

I didn't say WE COULDN'T SEE THEM leslie butt (41) I said she couldn't or didn't want to get near the departing (sad isn't it ?) couple.

  • Comment number 64.

Aren't you being a bit hypocritical complaining that someone uses their right of free expression won by British Soldiers, not to pin a poppy on their clothing. Just as you cannot judge someone's health problems by their appearance you can't judge their beliefs either and to do so is supreme arogance. As for the dancing - the more nasty the judges are the more perverse the voters are.

  • Comment number 65.

Maz1 sorry you`re way off the mark..Strictly isnt a serious dancing competition and never has been.If it was people like Ann Widdecombe and John Sargent and many others would never have been invited on in the first place. Their inclusion merely proves that it is an entertainment show first second and last. The dancing is merely part of that entertainment.

It would be disaaahsterous Darhling if it started to take itself seriously and that is why many people vote to keep Ann Widdecome week after week.

  • Comment number 66.

I am sorry to see Michelle leave, I really felt for her being in the bottom three times, she could only do her best and she tried her hardest and thought she did a good job of the character of the dance but unfortunately she made a few mistakes with the dance. I had a feeling that she and Felicity would be in the bottom two. Each week I could see an improvement with her confidence and dancing technique, it might not have been as good as Scott and Matt but she was trying.

  • Comment number 67.

Presumably Ann quite enjoys the complete loss of any credibility she may have had. Enjoy yourself at Blackpool and then please GO!

  • Comment number 68.

Can you please bring back the dance off, this is a dance show or not?

  • Comment number 69.

Although it is an entertainment show, surely the BBC must have to question their ability to produce such programmes. We had the vote rigging, John Sergeant quit and now Ann presents the same problem. In some respects I like the show but not when, as a licence payer, the credability of programmes are called into question by poor management. Yes it is entertainment but what is the point of having professional judges if they have no impact.

  • Comment number 70.

I am gutted Michelle has gone!

  • Comment number 71.

re 69 - I think calling Alesha a professional judge might raise eyebrows.

  • Comment number 72.

I am seething, asked hubby to record the results show and it didn't happen!!! Aaaagggghhhhh!!
I am glad Michelle has gone, she was awful, all gangly legs and arms, stick to singing love is what I say.
I can't be doing with Anns rudeness, she's terrible, However, the BBC is at fault here, why did they have her on? She was asked to be in the show, so now it comes down to the fact, she has every right to be there. The people voting to keep her and mindless fools.

  • Comment number 73.

I am fairly sure they have a bank of recordings of artists' performances to show at various times-so it is not that surprising that Annie Lennox didn't have a poppy, but as others have said, it is her choice. That is what we have in this country and should cherish.

  • Comment number 74.

Once again pompous fools like "fiddler" above have set out to tell us all how we should vote. No-one is allowed to disagree with their opinions, obviously, and we should all be "ashamed of ourselves."

Why? Why should these loud mouthed idiots think they're in a position to tell everyone else what they should think? You vote for who you like, fiddler, and I'll vote for who I like. Ok?

  • Comment number 75.

The right decision was made as I predicted that either Michelle or Felicity would go...... Would rather that someone else go (and soon at that!).

I just get up and left the room to warm my dinner when it was announced that AW was next to go on, glad that I only had to hear the score when I came back. Her continual back mouthing at the judges (that she thinks encourages voting for her) is getting on my nerves!

  • Comment number 76.

I used to love Anton but he's getting on my wick as well now. Thanks Ann !! Mind the man must be a saint putting up with her week after week. I know I'm losing the will to live just watching it !!

  • Comment number 77.

Hi All, What is going on, Yes Michelle was not good, but my gran can dance better than Ann & shes been dead for 22 years, John Sergent is like Jean Kelly compared to Ann, please Ann go! you are showing yourself up.

  • Comment number 78.

56 stavrosian.. Seriously .I would genuinely like to know what your definition of "proper dancing" is.For most of us it usually implies movement to music, rhythmically and with due emotional interpretation and grace. Really, please let us know what your definition is.

  • Comment number 79.

I'm not sure why people keep saying that is "entertainment" and not a dance competition. Why is it assumed that it can't be both? It is the competition part of it that makes it entertaining. It wouldn't be much of a show if we had a bunch of couples just doing a poor quality "dance" a la Ann Widdecome every week with no-one trying to dance better than the others and no competitive element, no judges, no marks, just a phone vote.

Why do the producers of this show appear to have so little pride in what they have created that they seek to make a mockery of it in the misguided notion that they are making it more "entertaining".

  • Comment number 80.

    78 tippytappy

Simple. "Proper" dancing is dancing like most normal people can dance without much practice. The rest of the competitors ruin this competition by insisting on practising their routines and improving their skills, when what we really want to see is people just going out there and doing the best they can with limited talent and practice.

Come on Ann! Do it for us normal people. One on the eye for all these la-di-da fans of over-rehearsed, slick routines.

  • Comment number 81.

Was it not Len who said a few years ago I think who said it was a dance show and that the public should vote for the best dancers not just who they found entertaining. But yet did Len not seem to suggest that they were scoring the dancers on entertainment values and that it was an entertainment show?

What a load of drivel! Ann was invited just like all the others and she is entitled to stay as long as the public wish to keep her there. Who exactly do you think you are? Telling people when to go or not to go???
When you pay my licence fee you may be entitled to tell me how to vote .. but only maybe!

Its a shame that such an expert oh dancing doesn't appear to know that its Gene as in Kelly, not Jean!

  • Comment number 85.

Got to have a break or i'll go daft

  • Comment number 86.

Oh by the way stavros , you admit it is a competition then?

  • Comment number 87.

For me, the worst 3 couples were "in no particular order":

Michelle & Brendan - execution of dance, and attitude in front of judges. IMHO Michelle's best dance was with Ian (sorry Brendan)

Felicity & Vincent - The armography looked very cumbersome

Ann & Anton - All I can say is that the standard is of the same quality as that of a "singing" contestant on the "other" side. Their continued participation just keeps the programme in the headlines. Well done to Anton for getting his furthest through the competition.

Judges scores: Sometimes Craig goes over the top with his comments but he does use 1..10 range to its proper extent to rank dancers. The other judges tend to restrict themselves to 6..10 marking dancers too close together.

  • Comment number 88.

    58 WinnieWimble

Initially it's harder for the males but there have been 4 male champions to 3 females.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for Ann Widdecombe, you cannot use her age when you consider that Felicity Kendal is almost a year older than her and is dancing much much better.

  • Comment number 89.

I'm not sure why this would be in doubt, but I "admit" that it's a competition, tippytappy. A competition in which I'll be voting for Ann several more times than I would have been if you just hadn't said anything!

  • Comment number 90.

I'm gutted that Michelle and Brendan are out, I thought she'd begun to really improve and I loved all her dances, I will really miss all her funny little ways as well!

  • Comment number 91.

Many people vote for Widdy, and the ever charming Anton, because she is more like them than any of the others. And I dont mean physically. What would YOU be like on SCD? Much like Ann I suspect. And we Brits do like the underdog.

  • Comment number 92.

How is it Anne is still in? Is everyone mad? It is getting beyond ridiculous..this is a DANCING competition...entertainment yes, but I don't know how Anne has the gall to let those go who are streets ahead of her...hats off to John S, he did the decent thing. Think the BBC have boobed in givng the public such a voice in this show.

  • Comment number 93.

I know that Michele didn't have her best dance yesterday, and that is getting tougher every weekend, but at the same time that is nice to see Ann's support for her and Anton's entertainment, this competition is about dancing, so it is time for her to go and leave people who are improving in the dance.

  • Comment number 94.

First of all, can I say how surprised I am that you make it so difficult for people to make a comment about your programmes. Then BBC, after watching Strictly from the first series, I now have stopped watching completely, after the way it has descended into a farce where it's no longer a dance competition. When you somehow make the dancing the important part of the show, then maybe I'll watch again.

  • Comment number 95.

I gave up on X Factor last year and I have a feeling that this might be my last strictly series. I love watching the dancing, and seeing couples progress over the weeks, but I can't stand the manufactured rivalry, rudeness, cringing use of kids and temper tantrums, all aimed at manipulating the public to vote. Someone is getting very rich out of the phone in. Just where does all that money go now it doesn't go to children in need? Happy to be manipulated for disadvantaged kids but not going to line the pockets of some private enterprise.

Am just going to have one more quick look at Matt's Rhumba then it's off to dream of sheep and shepherds!

  • Comment number 96.

Never mind that Annie Lennox did not wear a poppy, did she also say that she did not want any dancers on the floor? Let us hope that Blackpool is the the last we have to put up with for A.W.

In all honesty how Ann can appear at the Mecca of World ballroom dancing, The people who vote for don't realise what a joke she is & it isn't dancing that she delivers. I enjoyed my days when I did ballroom dancing & seeing great dancers, I am afraid she makes mockery of what I call pathetic figure on the dance floor.
Regards as being entertaining please tell me where ? She is rude to the dancing panel.

I still believe my theory, people are voting for Ann to get her to Blackpool , then to leave her there, there can be no other explanation.

As for people voting for her, as she is how many of us would dance, Nope, sorry that suggestion holds no water at all, at least most of us would give it a go, and not refuse point blank from day one, not to even try the Latin dances.

Simple. "Proper" dancing is dancing like most normal people can dance without much practice. The rest of the competitors ruin this competition by insisting on practising their routines and improving their skills, when what we really want to see is people just going out there and doing the best they can with limited talent and practice.

I couldnt beleive what I just read. It's both a dancing and entertainment show. The celebrities are there to improve ontheir dancing abilitites with the passing weeks and the reason for the eliminations are those who dont attempt or improve on their dancing. Thats the major reason for the practiced routines.
And the name is 'STRICTLY come dancing' not 'Simple Proper dancing'. My main gripe with AW is that she doesnt try to improve her dancing, but instead show arrogance about the fact that she doesnt even have to try.
