Tina O'Brien Leaves The Competition

Post categories:

BBC Eurovision Andrew BBC Eurovision Andrew | 20:00 UK time, Sunday, 31 October 2010

Tina O'Brien and Jared Murillo became the fourth couple to leave this year's competition. The former Corrie queen performed an Argentine Tango last night but was written out of the contest by a combination of the judges' scores and the public vote.

We caught up with a host of familiar faces for their reactions to Tina's dramatic exit.  Watch our exclusive video here and let us know your thoughts on tonight's results by leaving a comment below.

bad, bad, bad should be worst dancer, but it is the nature of the beast called scd. Farewell tina, onwards and upwards to next saturday

  • Comment number 3.

    How can this be right?

  • Comment number 4.

makes the show a complete farce what a joke will not be watching anymore.

  • Comment number 5.

what a mistake expelling Tina - were the rest of the country watching different performances to us?

there is NO WAY an Argentine Tango of that calibre should result in expulsion - Tina has been consistently brilliant & entertaining, unlike at least three other PERFORMANCES

never mind the quips & gags - this is a DANCE competition, and Tina was a dancer, and Jared a choreographer, capable of competing in the semi's, if not the final!

we're even CROSSER than when John Sergeant's continuing cost the competition some fine performers...

oh, well... even if the Dance-Off had continued, could the Judges have saved Tina?

shame on the voting fools who overlooked Tina for lesser dancers...

  • Comment number 6.

Harsh as it may sound on Jared the BBC producers employed a professional not up to the job, shame on them for sidelined Matt,Ian and Darren for another pro nowhere near them in terms of dance ability or choreographical expertise
I don't "blame" Jared at all he took a job that was offered but Tina had a lot more to give.
BBC producers......have a look at yourselves and take some responsibility.

  • Comment number 7.

Anne is so awful I can't bear to watch her. Has she got no dignity? I know it's entertainment but surely the ability to dance must count for something. Anne, please do the decent thing and bow out gracefully before you make an even bigger fool of yourself.

  • Comment number 8.

I can't believe it!! I am all for watching Ann "dance" for entertainment but when actual talents and people with potential get knocked out its just not fair! I have always said tht I Ann can stay in when there are equally as poor contestants in (I.E. Gavin, Michelle and Jimi - well excluding last night, and even felicity) but now good contestants are getting elimated its not right!! I was fearful that it would actually be Pamela and James going tonight! I will miss Jared!! I love him!!

  • Comment number 9.

Tina is a big, big loss. She could've offered so much more, and her exit has hit me harder than I would've thought. The Argentine Tango is an hugely difficult dance and, especially at this stage of the competition (we've seen champions have trouble with the AT), and I just feel Strictly has lost a Joker card tonight. Farewell Tina, and thanks for the hard work and effort.

  • Comment number 10.

I love strictly and thought it was a dancing contest after tonight im not sure. It farsical !!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment number 11.

Right enough already, bring back the dance off before we lose other couples who deserve to be in the show. And as for you lot out there who are voting for Ann, get a grip.

  • Comment number 12.

Tina should not have gone out tonight. Poor girl overcame chicken pox to dance last week and still did better than a few of the others. Ann, Felicity or Gavin should have gone out before her. Don't like this new format. Should be decided in a dance off like in previous years of SCD and listen to the judges comments. Ann was entertaining for a couple of weeks now it's getting booorrrring. Defo not enjoying this series. Missed last nights, can't even be bothered to download!

  • Comment number 13.

To all of the people who hav been writing nasty comments about Jared congratulations you got rid of him and Tina so you should be happy now. This not right they should not have gone so soon but then dancing competitions are always unfair so it is to be expected.

  • Comment number 14.

What was the Argentine Tango doing on the show this early on?! That dance was always a privilege, almost a reward really, for the final few contestants!

  • Comment number 15.

Can't believe that Tina is gone what is wrong with the British people get Ann W out or Gavin don't forget this is a dance competition and not a slapstick varietyh show.

  • Comment number 16.

I'm absolutely gutted that Tina and Jared have left. A travesty! Who is voting for Ann Widdecome?! There was so much promise with Tina and they made such a lovely couple. Really and truly Ann is not going to flourish into a fabulous dancer, however "entertaining" their routines are. Boo!

  • Comment number 17.

Thanks to the BBC I've joined Facebook since you've scrapped the message boards so I didn't need to bother watching the results show as I already knew the result as it was posted on the homepage - can I have a refund on my licence fee please I feel short changed. I'm sure you can find some repeat to stick on for 30 minutes on a Sunday night as you needn't bother with the show.

  • Comment number 18.

Poor Tina, soap actors from the other side never do as well as the soap actors from the beeb. No matter how well they actually dance, cause in the end Strictly is a popularity competition.

Even given that, I can't understand why anyone is voting for Anne. But maybe that is cause I am a Scotsman and can't understand why anyone would vote for a Tory anyway.

  • Comment number 19.

What a farce good on Craig the only one to have the guts to say the truth.Len should not be head judge. He moaned about the competitors throwing the caps around, but said nothing when Anton threw a granmother across the floor. Come on BBC get your act together.Losing good dancers again this year and viewing public.

  • Comment number 20.

What is the point of actually dancing? Can we not just focus on the popularity test?

  • Comment number 21.

i think it's disgusting that tina & jared have been elimenated from the competion. i thought that it's about dancing but obviously not. if ann w ahd anything about her she would have walked by now, at least john .s did the right thing. i agree with crh its about the dancing. for len to say if he was at home he would get the wife to ring to vote for aw so he could see what she was going to do next week is rubbish.

  • Comment number 22.

during the live show i thought that tina had danced her very best and did not deserve 2 go

  • Comment number 23.

utter disgrace tina was a better dancer than the rest, by right ann should have gone she was terrible it is not right let there be a petion to bring her back oooh yes and bring back the dance off. i might boycot the show if she is not brought back. i'll miss you tina

  • Comment number 24.

can't believe Tina has gone out, am starting to lose complete interest in what was a good dancing competition

  • Comment number 25.

The show is fast becoming a joke. Yes we all like a laugh.but not at the expence of decent contenders.BRING BACK THE DANCE OFF

  • Comment number 26.

I am in Shock and I am just numb all over, Tina and Jared should not of gone out tonight ,tina had so much to give and to loose her and Jared at this stage of the compettion is unfair. Jared did a top rated job and they both should be proud of what they have achieved , Jared is my Hero and Idol as well and I loved watching him dance like i said before , he inspires me so much.

Such a shame and I am at a loss now too - and replying to another comment . Jared is a perfessional and deserved his place on strictly , I hope to see Jared return to Strictly Come Dancing 2011 and WIN the trophy.

  • Comment number 27.

Please can someone tell me where Natalie (scotts partner) got her mask from? I am going to a masked ball, and have tried every way of finding one like it, and this is my last resort!! please help me!!

  • Comment number 28.

Tina was fantastic and one of the stronger dancers, it's a joke that she's out, totally unfare.

  • Comment number 29.

Why is everyone blaming Ann for Tina's departure?

The voting public should take a share of the blame along with Jared for not coming up with any routine that stood out and made people want to vote for them.

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh but I can't remember one of Tina & Jared's routines whereas Ann's are still giving me pleasure.

Not being a dancer perhaps the subtleties of a routine go over my head somewhat and that may be my loss but I'll bet there are a lot of viewers out there who are just like me and so vote for the most entertaining couple....and like it or not I think Ann & Anton are entertaining and obviously a lot of other people think so too.

  • Comment number 30.

Tina and Jared should not have gone. The public shouldn't phone up and vote for Ann she doesnt dance at all this is a dancing competition. There were also other worst people Gavin can't really dance and Felicity isnt as good as Tina. Public DONE PHONE AND VOTE FOR ANN!!! She must go next week or else good DANCERS WILL BE GOING AND ITS A DANCING COMPETITION!!! ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!!

  • Comment number 31.

Sadly, agree with these comments. We could just have a dressing up contest with some slapstick routines. Would save on the cost of professional dancers - could perhaps get the audience to throw cream buns and tomatoes?

...and we wouldn't have to have the farce of Tess changing her dress 'cos it's Sunday!'

  • Comment number 32.

I am not so cross about Ann,at least she provides some entertainment, as Gavin!! Good lord, I go out and make a cuppa when he is on. Its like watching paint dry albeit slightly less exciting.

  • Comment number 33.

What a shock to see Tina leave the tonight but can anyone explain why as She opens in Panto In Manchester on the 3rd December something funny to me

  • Comment number 34.

I don't usually watch the results show as the new format is dire - bring back the dance off! But tonight I did watch it as I wondered what Alice Cooper would play - fun, but not as good as 'Welcome to My Nightmare' on the Muppet Show.

Tragic that Pamela & James and Flavia & Jimi were close to the end - in no order I am sure! Felicity probably deserved to be in the bottom two (despite good music from Eyes Wide Shut) - though Gav & the joke that is AW should really have been there. A slightly tragic result really - I don't find AW entertaining and find it tedious she doesn't really dance and has to mouth off at the judges (who have been emasculated since the dance off went...). So, thumbs down! - sad that AW will get more money now...

  • Comment number 35.

You are all wrong. Strictly presents itself as a dance competition but really it is a Saturday Night TV entertainment. That is why a competent dancer with no personality gets voted off while someone who can't dance but is having a damned good go (and scores laughs off the judges)stays in. Vote for Ann on behalf of all of us with two left feet.

  • Comment number 36.

This comment was removed because the moderators found it broke the house rules. Explain.

  • Comment number 37.

After bitter experience in bemoaning weak dancers staying in the competition before, I'll not say anything about Ann.

What I will say is will somebody at the BBC please listen (I know, fat chance) to a plea to make the results show live again? I accidentally heard the result yet again. Do you expect us all to sit in a soundproof, darkened room with our phones and computers turned off for 24 hours? The result is out there, people talk about it, it is impossible for us all to avoid it even when we want to.

  • Comment number 38.

having read the comments & some from last night - I have not even bothered to watch any of it on the iplayer

  • Comment number 39.

Please BBC change how the judges votes are used what is the point of having Judges and wasting Licence payers money if the judges votes don`t count for nothing Tina should not have gone tonight.

  • Comment number 40.

  • Comment number 41.

both tina and jared did not deserve 2 go at all i wanted them 2 stay longer

  • Comment number 42.

Well lenstheboss, if you're not even watching the show - get off the blog! How sad is that?!

It was a shame to see Tina going before her time - but whichever of the judges said that she was just a teensy bit boring - got it absolutely right. Her AT was completely soulless an dull. At least Ann brings something to the party - and no its not me voting for her! (or Gavin!)

  • Comment number 43.

Shame about Tina leaving but the results show is so much better with Tess leading and not a brucie joke!! in sight.

  • Comment number 44.

Who are these stupid people voting for Anne Widdecombe! This is supposed to be a dance competition!! It's bad enough that we have to listen to a jude who isn't qualified to judge dancing (yes you Aleesha!) but now we have people who can't dance staying in while people who can are voted out. Not sure I'll watch any more as it's just becoming a big farce

  • Comment number 45.

You know something....the more people tell me not to do something the more I want to do it....and putting it in capitals wont make me change my mind.

I will choose who to vote for based on my own criterea and what entertains me and it certainly hasn't been Tina and Jared ,or indeed some of the other more highly thought of couples.

Dance off or no dance off....it has been tried both ways and there are always complaints about the fairness of it. Just accept that this is the way it is going to be this season and if you can't live with it go and watch something else.

  • Comment number 46.

Very disappointing. I really thought that tonight we would see the last of the simpering omelette that is Felicity.

  • Comment number 47.

I thought I had already voiced my opinion, were do these comments hide, were is the old forum ? things used to be so much more open, shan't bother again.

  • Comment number 48.

bring back the judges choice please vewers are not working

  • Comment number 49.

If Len truly believes that he is there to judge the dancing then WHY did he give Ann and Anton a 7 "for entertainment" last week?

I am sick of him giving Craig filthy looks when Craig is the only one saying what the intelligent members of the public are thinking. (Unfortunately, the majority of the voters don't fall into this category).

  • Comment number 50.

The Ann joke is wearing thin. It's not funny anymore. Time for her to go.

  • Comment number 51.

I can't stand Gavin he's always showing off! He loves himself he admitted that. I agree that Strictly is becoming a joke.

  • Comment number 52.

AW isn't "having a damn good go" - she's pretending to. Look at her being dragged around or her pathetic hand movements at the end of last night's dance or her flapping as she wasted time being descended on a wire last week. & each week she tries to pre-empt the judges by mouthing off...none of this is entertaining and it certainly isn't dancing. National Treasure? - I think not somehow...

  • Comment number 53.

I think strictly has become a joke.
There are some great dancers on there, that are being voted off by a brainwashed public.
What idiots are voting for the worst dancer mainly Ann any way.
The bbc must love it that they are keeping her in so she can make more of a fool of her self. There is nothing worse than watching some one that looks like a stranded whale being pulled along by Anton. I feel really sorry for him, having to dance or do all the dancing for the pair of them. I think it is time to stop watching such rubbish. I don't even know why the judges are there. They don't seem to get a say in it much now. What a waste of a show.

  • Comment number 54.

BBC, I wonder what is the point of the SCD Message Boards. Are they just so that we can rant and then read similar postings from like-minded SCD fans? Does the BBC take on board any of the comments we post? Clearly the BBC is not going to change the format of the show now as it would be totally unfair to those who've gone. However, the message really is very loud and clear about the lack of dance off and the format of the Sunday show. We are SCD fans (otherwise we wouldn't be bothered with writing on the blog!) and license fee payers, and I've read so many posts that people have had enough of Strictly and won't watch it again.

What is the point of the message boards if the Beeb won't listen?

I notice that "It Takes Two" has deftly avoided any discussion about the lack of dance off so far.

I still love Strictly - I look forward to Saturday night so much, but the "Sunday" show is sadly lacking.

  • Comment number 55.

Tina and Jared were very boring to watch...can't say I'm sorry Tina is out...perhaps next week it could be the even duller Gavin? At least Ann provides a bit of fun.

  • Comment number 56.

next year can we have all the celebs back who have been axed by the likes of anne wid, john serge.kenny logan.giv them a second chance i say

  • Comment number 57.

Tina has gone fact, if she did not go tonite she would be out soon either way

Gavin is still in due to his female fans - he can not really carry of the bear chest look another week

Anne is priceless but she is working to improve, but agile she ain't lol

Felicity has more to give me thinks

Patsy needs to go imvho of course :)

Does it really matter who goes - someone goes each week, there is no need for temper tantrums as long as its not the high contenders that are going out yet

  • Comment number 58.

As much as I love the programme, I'm afraid after tonight's result the show is rapidly becoming a farce. The programmers have to decide whether this is an entertaining dance contest with an element of comedy or a comedy show with an element of entertaining dance. I assumed it was meant to be the former but with Ann Widdicombe being retained in preference to Tina O'Brien I'm afraid we are now bordering upon the farcical. Ms. Widdicombe's performances would be better reserved for Comic Relief.

  • Comment number 59.

I don't understand the upset when a mediocre dancer is voted of SCD. Surely if the competition was a proper dance competion like the old "Come Dancing" (yawn) the likes of Ann and Gavin wouldn't be asked to appear on the show. The reason we love the format is the fact that complete dance novices have a go, eventually sanity prevails and a good dancer always wins, so get over it. Theres more to worry about in the world than a TV programme!

  • Comment number 60.

  • Comment number 61.

It's lovely to see so many new viewers leaving comments.

How do I know so many of you are new? Because if you had watched any of the previous series you would know that there are always shock exits - even when the dance off existed.

    Every single year.

As long as the public have a vote it will continue to happen. No need to get upset about it, it's just a light entertainment show.

    Enjoy it.

  • Comment number 62.

Stupid people commenting to bring back Darren and Ian as they have more experience than Jared. Of course they do, Jared is only 22. He should be commended for coming as far as he has in life and always being well mannered and polite. Please BBC give him another chance next year. Most of us really warmed to him and our hearts went out to him tonight, he looked so disappointed.

Ann Witchicomb doesn't even dance she is swung around and dragged around the floor to kill the time. Thinks she is being Witty and entertaining by being rude to the judges. What is wrong with the dumbed down public that they can't see past all the propaganda?

  • Comment number 63.

Shocked and appalled, frankly. To retain their own integrity and some degree of credence with the UK and international public, the BBC should investigate the security and integrity of the phone line voting and perhaps impress to the public that the show is a BALLROOM DANCE competition. I haven't met one person since last night that Ann is a better dancer than Tina, or that Ann danced better last night than Tina, or that Ann merited staying in the competition at the expense of Tina. I can't think that one member of the public in general would say so either. It really needs a BBC investigation. Has made me feel disappointed with the show, with the BBC and that results could be so shockingly and transparently 'tainted'. What a national shame. Len

  • Comment number 65.

    @gaby morrison
ann isn't fun its anton who knows how to get the best out of her. its experience (anton's that is not ann's) over enthusiam and effort. i can't say i'm a tina fan but her we go again, the battle of wills - between the public who love the slapstick and those who prefer the dance. actually i must say that i would love to have both. couldn't they have an amateur (just for 'fun')and competitive version?

  • Comment number 66.

In response to flea: just wanted to point out I am not a new viewer and have been watching Strictly for years. This is just the first time I have felt angry enough to post a comment.

But you are right - these things will always happen when the public get to vote. And there are more important things to get annoyed about....I'm going to pour myself a glass of wine and calm down. And I will be taping each week now so that I can forward through the bits I don't like (Ann, Gavin, Michelle, people answering Craig back) and just watch the good stuff (Matt, ScoTT, Pamela, Kara and Jimi)!

  • Comment number 67.

Perhaps the BBC, via the programme, should give the public a very clear idea on what they are voting for before asking them to vote. I have never seen to many moderator removed comments on a message board as on this one, by the way. Len

  • Comment number 68.

I am so so sorry to see Tina go - the choreoography was superb and so was Jared's dancing. I am a real fan of Strictley and have the cartwheels just in awe. What gumpf Tina had to actually do that. I hope Tina gets to keep the outfit. Maybe people thought Tina and Jared were safe so voted elsewhere. The bestest of all has been the enjoyment we have been given and the sheer opportunity for any of the 'celebs' to learn to dance with some of the world's most superb and passionate for their art dancers. I hope we see Tina dance again.

  • Comment number 69.

    @67. At 9:23pm on 31 Oct 2010, Teofilius

The comments weren't 'moderator removed' they were waiting for moderation because the posters had new accounts.

The messages have all appeared now.

(And the BBC (Tess) has always said 'vote for your favourite'.)

  • Comment number 70.

It's tragic that the vote is always about more than the best dancer. It really does make a mockery of the programme's premise. Since when has seeing someone make a fool of themselves week in week out been "entertainment". It's just an embarrassing.

  • Comment number 71.

I was really sorry to see Tina leave the show because her performance has always been very professional and completed with fair grace. I hope Tina will carry on with her dancing.

    Kind Regards

  • Comment number 72.

Teofilius-those are some strong accusations. There is nothing to suggest the voting lines are dodgy. If people don't vote the way you like then bad luck. That would be democracy. Your comments about speaking to the public about who they vote for is insulting to put it mildly. I haven't voted for anyone yet and if my favourite leaves then that's life. I might not like it but I would lump it. If and when I do vote, if my favourite goes I would accept it because that is the basis of the show.

  • Comment number 73.

Sorry to tell people this ..............but when you ask people to pay to vote these things can happen .....................stop the money making voting and the bad dancers will go

  • Comment number 74.

I love strictly and have watched it from the start. i love the dancing and realise it has to be entertaining, but at the end of the day it is a dancing competition. Even though some of the competitors are entertaining they are not dancers. Tina and jared should not have been voted off tonight. judges should have final say.

  • Comment number 75.

Sorry to say goodbye to Tina and Jared. I have had to put a sobbing 4 year old to bed, whilst trying to explain the rules of the show and promising that Tina will be a bit sad to leave but happy to go home to her family. Tina and Jared where the winners for my little girl x

  • Comment number 76.

Ow I'm sad, I thought Tina had a few more weeks in her so this is the first shock of the series for me with her going this early :(

I don't actually vote myself, so, of course I can't complain that she wasn't saved by the public. I admit, I just thought that with the amount of people that watch Corrie every week she would be safe for another week.

I just hope she will still take great memories from being on the show and not feel disheartened that she is already out as she certainly was not the worse dance in the competition at all!

I wish her luck with the rest of her career and am glad that she will keep on dancing.

  • Comment number 77.

Although I would not vote for Ann - I do admire her, she has learnt dances off to a T, developed her skills and taken risks. Ann is good for the show as she helps us see that having passion and care for an art means we can learn it. Emotional and intellectual intelligence is brilliant, not all of us have the bodies to develop dancing like a professional off to an automatic 'do it and do it now' starting block.
Kristina is my fav and Goldie unknown to most of us - yep off they went.
Bring back the dance off please.

  • Comment number 78.

Hi Tinsel, disappointed in the name calling & apparent lack of tolerance for a different opinion.
Just Because I have not watched this weeks show yet (and in fact I still might not) that does not preclude me from expressing my option. I love SCD and have watched it from series 1.
I don't like the new format, I think the judging is a touch "random" this year and even Len, who as an ex champion dancer I admire, has definitely been "off his game" this year.

I will continue to watch it and there will be bits I love and bits i don't - I don't get upset about who is voted off but I do feel that this series has lost something.

For what it is worth (not much as I do not take my self or indeed SCD that seriously) I think voting for the worst dancer would make a bit ore sense and possibly be fairer.

  • Comment number 79.

i am amazed people keep voting for Ann, she is not very endearing, i want to know when she is going to do a fast dance, i can't help thinking the whole thing is rigged, as she always dances last or next to last. i feel sorry for the other older celebs, as they are not as pampered as she appears to be

  • Comment number 80.

omg, three letters from craig, but what are the publicvoters thinking of,tina and jarred being voted off, plz,it should have bn anne and anton or gavin, both performances showed no promise of improvement, and gorgeous gav(as he is),but he posed his way through his paso. his best contribution was his paso leap at the end.
personaly, both of there performances were a real letdown. brendan getting a warning from len, brendans and michelles performance was a real timewarp jive.
so whats on the strictley menu this week, hopefully anne widdicombe will be given a samba or vienese waltz.or something to hard to tackle,. goodluck to all, chris blackpool.

  • Comment number 81.

Having a dance-off wouldn't make a blind bit of difference - Ann was not in the bottom 2. If she keeps inexplicably getting a lot of public votes, it'll be weeks before she's in danger of falling into the bottom 2, and only then would a dance-off make a difference, as it did with Kate Garraway in series 5 - when she ended up in the bottom 2, she left, but that took a long time!

There should be a score for technical difficulty and a separate score for performance, but unfortunately for that we'd need judges capable of judging both, which 3 of the 4 judges have already proved this series they are not able to do (Len's 7 for Ann made his comment about the judges having to judge solely on the dancing farsical), and Craig has been just as erratic this series himself!

  • Comment number 82.

So disappointed to see Tina leave the competition. Every year it seems that a particularly poor dancer but one that provided "entertainment" is voted by the public to stay at the expense of someone who can actually dance. This is supposed to be a dance competition not a comedy show!!!

  • Comment number 83.

    @72 At 9:36 on 31 Oct, humbleopinion

Like them or not, they are my opinions, humbleopinion. And what I gave as my opinion isn't what you stated, incidentally. It's clear, if you read this thread, that MANY thought that a Strictly Come Dancing vote would be based on dancing. I might add that this board and thread is here to express opinions, whether liked or not. The voting didn't seem to match the public comment I've heard and/but, you're right, if the results are indeed reflective of fair voting on clearly defined parameters, then that's great in my view - and totally as it should be. AND, there have probably been harsher opinions expressed, given that entries on the Board have been removed through breaking House Rules.

  • Comment number 84.

It's always the start of the competition when someone you expect to go further ends up going home. It is always very sad as well. I do hope other contestants don't feel guilty-it's the nature of the beast. However the focus of this series seems not to be on the dancing . It does feel 'dumbed down'. Tina-you have made a real impression ...all of it good!!!!!

  • Comment number 85.

Come on general public. I know it is an entertainment show as well as dancing but how on earth could you give less votes to Tina by a large margin than Ann!

  • Comment number 86.

    @83. At 9:53pm on 31 Oct 2010, Teofilius

Actually only one comment has been removed so far.

On Digital Spy they have popularity polls. If it was vote to evict then Ann would be gone but with vote to save there were three pairs less popular than Ann and Anton.

Plenty of people enjoy watching them - I'm one - but I don't vote.

    Commiserations to Tina.

I can't help feeling she'd have stood more of a chance if she'd been paired with Vincent (I don't think his partnership with Felicity is really working either).

    Two mismatched couples.

Come on general public. I know it is an entertainment show as well as dancing but how on earth could you give less votes to Tina by a large margin than Ann!

Not necessarily a large margin Rob, there could be just a few votes in it - it is placings not number of votes that counts.

With so many good dancers this year, we are going to be in the position of losing some of them quickly. We will all just have to be brave, and try not to be 'shocked, devasted, appalled' etc and just get over it!!! It's supposed to be light entertainment, not something to get so upset about.
I realise the contestants themselves (celeb+pro) are entitled to be upset, they put in all the work and throw themselves into it emotionally etc, but as viewers we should just try and enjoy watching our favourites while they are in it.

Having said that, if Matt or Jimy had gone I would have been all of the above!!!!!

"If it was vote to evict then Ann would be gone"

That's an interesting idea. How about it, Beeb? Two phone numbers for each couple - one to save, one to evict. Think of all the extra money you could make!

What does surprise me is how cross some people get when the public's favourite gets saved week after week - John Sergeant, Kate Garraway to name but two. It's not a new thing.

Phone vote money goes to the phone company not the BBC.

I don't like the idea of a vote to evict - it goes against the spirit of the show.

I'm a bit perplexed by the bewilderment and outrage regarding Ann. Every series there's one couple that advances week after week, despite not being very good. Shouldn't we be accustomed to it by now?!

Also, how many people who are angry about Tina's departure can say they voted for her?

If Ian had been one of the professionals he would have been marvellous with Tina. Jared just wasn't up to it I'm afraid. But it's Gavin who is driving me crazy, showing off his chest and continually boasting about how wonderful he is. Even the newspapers were unimpressed by the shirt removal stunt. I shan't mind Ann staying till he and Felicity and Michelle have gone, as she's such a sport and so quick witted - gives the judges as good as she gets !! What annoys me more than ANYTHING else is this continual pretence that the results show is done on Sunday. Peter gave it a away last Sunday when he said "I tried my best tonight " on the Sunday programme !! Why do they get the judges and everyone else to pretend it's Sunday when they record it ?

Hi lenstheboss, I have every respect for the opinions of others who have watched and considered the show they are commenting on. However, I have little respect for someone who hasn't seen the item under discussion and indeed has decided they will not be watching the programme on the strength of the opinions on a blog and yet still expresses an opinion on what has occurred!

Thanks so much for clarifying, Flea. I really appreciate it.

I guess, for me, there's solely that point that it would be good [I think!] if the parameters for casting votes were laid down clearly by the show and its presenters. In the absence of this, Len obviously got into difficulty with his 'judges vote for dancing, the public might vote for something else' comment (I like him very much, by the way) and the public obviously have different views on what they should be doing. If it were made a little more clear on the show [i.e., on what the panel vote for and what the public should vote for] it would help credibility, I believe. If, then, Ann were voted for as being 'entertaining', so be it. I think the public enjoy it when they see competitors rise to a good quality [as many do, of course] over the course of a series ....

    Thanks again ...

Any competition that involves public vote is never going to be about skill - it's basically who's liked the most - talent/skill doesn't come into it unfortunately, particularly with the voting changes this time around.

I'm not keen on vote to evict either - and I believe it is more open to betting fiddles.

    Hi IansLadyInWaiting :)

    (Lovely name!)

I'd like nothing more than to see Ian (and Matt) return. Not sure Tina and Ian would have been well suited though because of the huge height difference. Would have liked to have seen Michelle with him though.

I'm also growing tired of one-trick pony Gavin. He's a nicer guy than I ever imagined he'd be, but his dances bore me rigid.
