A new trial version of the BBC iPlayer has launched today inviting users to share favourite programmes via social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

There's much more information on the BBC News site, and also the BBC Internet blog.

It's available at the iPlayer beta site if you'd like to give it a try.

Whilst I thank you again for iPlayer and recent developments, my personal interest is in a programmed & scheduled, downloading facility to my fixed media device (Humax HD PVR), so that I can take advantage of my ISP BB unlimited downloading facility which is only available from Midnight to 09:00. When will this be available, please?

Thanks for the comment Grey-stones. However, we here on the Radio Scotland blog are not technical enough to answer your query! I'd recommend you head over to the BBC Internet blog where I'd hope someone will be able to help.
