The 17th century pub in the centre of this chocolate-box village, where raucous celebrations have followed Paul Nicholls' biggest career successes in National Hunt racing, is easy enough to find.

But where are the stables that famously house Kauto Star and Denman, the brilliant 10-year-old geldings who between them have carried off the Gold Cup in each of the past three years?

You wander up a gently meandering lane, past a fine Victorian gothic church and negotiate a few more twists and turns, and there it is - Manor Farm Stables, situated surprisingly close to the road that would, if you were so inclined, lead you towards the site of the Glastonbury Music Festival.
