What the Tube upgrade is doing for Oxford Street...

This is what the Tube upgrade actually looks like to many people.

This is Oxford Street and it is closed to one lane because of the work to build the new Bond Street station.

I doubt the retailers are happy.

You can expect to see a lot more of this kind of thing with the Tube upgrade and Crossrail.

Given that Oxford Street is closed to traffic apart from buses and taxis, surely this won't make much difference....

We were there the other weekend. The extra journey between shops was c 50 yards, perhaps 200 yards in some places and being wilfully difficult. So I doubt the retailers even notice.

And if they do? So what? When Bond Street LU is better, they'll get more visitors. And Crossrail opening there is a retailer's wet dream.

Last quarter's GDP figures were negative and the government blamed it on the snow. This quarter they can blame the roadworks. Pffff.
