Every week a BBC Introducing track is selected for the BBC Radio 1 Playlist and this week it’s Animal Keeper by George Barnett. Fearne Cotton played it yesterday and it will be heard on other Radio 1 daytimes shows across the week. Listen to it below and share your wisdom in the comments section.
Hometown: George is from Herefordshire where he’s been making music since the age of three.
Style: Animal Keeper is a real blast. Even after a couple of listens you’re unlikely to get your head around all of the intricate and experimental elements played and produced by the man himself. It has a dirty beat with an electronic edge, pop sensibilities and George’s versatile RnB vocal which flips from distorted to falsetto within a drum beat. It’s the title track from Barnett’s upcoming EP, the follow up to his recent mixtape, The Red Tape, which also featured his astonishingly popular cover of Daft Punk’s Get Lucky.
You need to know: At the start of September, BBC Introducing had its first ever stage at Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park. George Barnett played and stole the show with a terrific performance that you can still watch here.
