Tonight on BBC Radio 1, Annie Mac and Huw Stephens revealed the line-up for the BBC Introducing stage at Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2016, which this year takes place in Exeter.

Over the years we have seen some incredibly exciting young acts make milestone performances on our stage. From BBC 1Xtra favourite Little Simz gracing the BBC Introducing stage at the Hackney Weekend back in 2012, to a 16 year old Bridie Monds-Watson, aka SOAK, appearing on the stage in Londonderry back in 2013, through to ‘returning acts’ Royal Blood and Catfish and the Bottlemen playing to a packed out tent at the 2014 edition in Glasgow.

This year we’re very proud to be hosting some of the finest new talent from the South West on our stage this year. James Santer and the BBC Introducing in Devon team have handpicked the hottest new acts emerging out of Devon, including Cortes, Emmi, Black Foxxes, Tiny Folds, Alice Jemima and ‘returning act’ Rosie Lowe (you can read more about the BBC Introducing stories of our 4 returning acts right here)

All the artists on our line-up first shared their music with us via the BBC Introducing Uploader, which has led each of them to receive their first ever radio play on one of our 36 BBC Introducing local shows around the UK. For this particular opportunity; each of the local shows have submitted acts from their area to be considered by a panel of top music curators, including Radio 1 producers, presenters and music team members, which has resulted in this stellar line-up:

Radio 1 and 1Xtra work alongside us to help continue the support for the most exciting artists discovered by our local shows, bringing their tunes to a nationwide audience of millions in the form of the weekly BBC Introducing slot on the Radio 1 and 1Xtra playlists as well as Huw Stephens' Mon-Weds Radio 1 show which champions the most exciting new BBC Introducing tracks around.

Radio 1's Big Weekend takes place at Powderham Castle in Exeter on the 28th & 29th May 2016.
