Unveiling BBC Introducing's plans for the Cheltenham Jazz Festival

Rachel Holmberg

Editor of BBC Music Introducing

For the first time ever BBC Introducing will host a stage at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival at the end of April.

We now receive such a broad range of music into the BBC Introducing Uploader, including genres from pop and rock, to folk, classical, world and jazz – it’s only right that our festival offering and opportunities reflect the diverse mix of artists who now share their tracks with us.

The 36 BBC Introducing shows across local radio have been busy picking the best jazz acts from their area to put forward to our panel of Radio 2 presenters: Jamie Cullum and Jo Whiley. I'm delighted to reveal the 3 artist who have been selected to perform at the festival:

Sarah Munro
Ruth Lambert Trio
Kel Elliott & Her 3 Man Orchestra

The showcase will take place at St Pauls Church in Cheltenham on Wednesday 27th April and will be hosted by Radio 2’s Jo Whiley. The show will be recorded for later broadcast across the BBC Introducing local radio network as well as Jo Whiley and Jamie Cullum’s Radio 2 shows the following week.

If you would like the chance to be in the room and watch these 3 brilliant jazz acts perform, you can apply for free tickets via the Cheltenham Jazz Festival website. BBC Radio 2's Jamie Cullum, who is the Artistic Curator of Cheltenham Jazz Festival, explains why the event is going from strength to strength: “I’ve been involved in Cheltenham Jazz Festival for a long time now, and it’s a pleasure to be involved in putting the line-up together. It’s been great to see the Festival grow so much over the years – and for a festival of any type to reach 20 years is a huge achievement.”

To get your music heard by your local BBC Introducing radio show and potentially find yourself on one of our festival stages, join the BBC Introducing Uploader and start sending us your tracks today.
