Ponty, Giants....

Huw Stephens Huw Stephens | 00:12 UK time, Monday, 28 May 2007

Pontypridd hosted the second Full Ponty festival over the weekend, and it was a rock-tastic day. Friends Electric from Neath proved to be a really interesting new band making a rock-electronic racket which sounded really good, different to others who make a rock-electro racket who can get it very wrong in my opinion.
Massive crowds for The New 1920, The Blackout, Kids in Glass Houses and everyone going crazy for the Automatic and of course Lostprophets, back in Ponty where it all started for them. The Prophets support of local bands they've been championing, taking out on tour and encouraging is something really special, and something thy can be vey roud of. Also Gethin Pearson and the Scenry were ace, and the mighty Gallows who were, as usual, amazing. Check out Radio 1 in Wales this Thursday night for me and Beth Elfyn from the festival with live music...
Tonight I got to see Young Marble Giants play their first gig in 27 years. The legendary Cardiff band only released one album, the amazing Colossal Youth which led Kurt Cobain to call them his favourite band. They were superb too, playing as part of the Hay on Wye literary festival, and sounding so fresh and insiring, gentle and musically brilliant. The album and Peel sessions is being re-released soon on Domino.
I'm listening to Eugene McGuinness' cd which I do beieve will be released in the next couple of months. It's as lovely and warm as the session he did for the show recently...
