Will you be affected by the BA strike?

The first strike by BA cabin crew is due to begin on Saturday. Will this affect your travel plans?

The dispute is over reduced staffing levels and pay at British Airways, with the first strike due to start on 20 March.

Meanwhile British Airways union Unite is to meet its US counterpart Teamsters on Wednesday to discuss the strike by the airline's cabin crew.

Teamsters, the main transport union in the US, said it would "stand in solidarity" with Unite, but it is unclear what part, if any, the US union would play in the strikes.

    No, I won't be affected at all. Since they've been talking about strikes for ages, I've just made sure to book all my flights with competitor airlines.

    I just hope the unions figure out the long-term consequences of that and what it means for their jobs before it's too late.

    This is all about unions flexing its muscles (It’s the we can bring you down syndrome again) and has nothing to do with pay or conditions at BA, If BA folds then all of these cabin crew will be lining up at the dole office while all of these union bosses will still be in there £60,000 a year jobs and it will not affect them at all.

    The Government should be mediating in this but are too scared of losing millions in funding from their union paymasters so Brown and Co cower in their offices and the union barons run riot.

    The Tories had to break the unions to stop them ruining the country in the 80s and unfortunately it looks like history will have to repeat itself again.

    Seems like a blast from the past with intransigence on both sides of the debate. We have booked a long weekend in New York next month (April) for my wife's 40th and wanted to book the flights with BA. Because of strike uncertainty we booked with Virgin instead and I'm sure we're not alone in those actions. If everyone does that then all of BA lose as they'll go out of business. They should just get it sorted for the benefit of all concerned.

    I am afraid we are going to watch the demise of another dinosaur: the issue of cabin staff pay etc. should have been resolved years ago but has always been in the too difficult tray for various BA CEOs. The Airline has not changed one bit in response to far sharper Operators. Oh and it's going to cost me about £1500 in lost hotel bookings if I cannot fly.

    They have a democratic right to strike. They have gone about it legally.

    .................and they have given plenty of notice.

    There are other airlines to choose from as there are train company`s, coach company`s etc, etc, etc.

    The media love making a tragedy out of nothing.

    As the best paid cabin staff in the world, it is absolutely ridiculous that they are risking the future of the airline by striking. Hopefully, the measures that BA are taking will largely negate the effect of the strike. It's a shame they can't sack those who strike......

    I fully support the striking "taxpayers" who work for BA!! The union is supporting it's members and i am pleased by this. The British people should support this strike because it shows that some people are prepared to stand up for the working rights that our grandparents and great-grandparents fought for!! People gave their lives to get good working conditions and we should not insult their efforts by giving those rights away!!

    Will my holiday and business plans be affected by the BA strike? No! I have just booked 6 business class long haul flights where BA flights were offered but not chosen because the threat of strikes was a significant consideration.

    No, it won't affect me as I won't ever book to fly with BA again and if enough people do this then they will all have NO job and see if they find living on incomne support any easier than their o so poorly paid wages for the job THEY decided to do! Unions have alot to answer for, I wonder if they will pay these peoples bills when they are out of work??

    Not impressed by the poor standards of investigative journalism on this story.
    The forces driving this corrosive threat come from BASSA the Cabin Crew Branch.They are representing only the needs of the senior crew in BA who earn £50-£60K per annum and who will have to work harder because of the crewing reductions.
    The reps for BASSA will not be on duty in uniform on the strike dates so any sanctions issued will hit the junior crew members hardest.
    Sadly BA onboard service standards have been falling for several years and this will not help maintain customer loyalty.

    I have no intention of flying BA ever again. I used to fly First Class at least 5 times a year on business. No longer. The Unite union is simply living on a different planet. Their staff are overpaid, arrogant (yes even in First!!) and out of touch. The offer is now off the table I understand, and the union bleats that it's unbelievable. Rubbish, what IS unbelieveable is that the union thinks it can hold the passengers and the company to ransom.

    Thanks a bunch, Unite. You've now thrown the long weekend I had saved for out of the window. Face it, lots of companies at the moment are going throuigh hard times. I myself was made redundant at the beginning of the recession, and the company I now work for has frozen pay for the last two years (meaning a real-terms pay cut) in order to keep the business afloat and profitable. From what I've seen, the BA cabin crew staff are amongst the best rewarded in their industry. For them to strike like this, affecting the profitability of the company they work for, along with the general public is just plain stupid.

    I now face a couple of weeks of real uncertainty about the trip I have planned. I don't know if the flights will go ahead, or if I have to cancel the hotel booking (along with waving goodbye to the booking fee) and in effect wasting vacation days that I won't see again. Unite should be ashamed of themselves.

    I hope they (British Airways cabin crew) win their dispute. To not be allowed 2 strike is soley the fate of slaves! Thus every free human has the right to strike. As humans do not hav wings, flying is a priviledge and not a right! If people want to book a flight with an airline carrier that badly pays it's staff they have that right - if the staff of the airline go on strike disrupting plans - maybe the customers affected should have booked their flight with a airline service that pays and treats it's staff fairly! Some people accept 'slavery' and feel no-one should complain about working conditions! They can choose to hold that point of view but they shouldn't complain when others simply demand to be paid a fair wage and good working conditions - things all free people should be able to demand. History shows that in many slave revolts, some slaves sided with the slave masters to try to crush the aspirations of those who wanted to be free. They say history repeats itself which may explain why some people complain about underpaid/overworkd/stressed workers actually taking a stand and demanding that they are treated as free human beings. I would urge BA cabin crew to ignore those who complain, as those who complain are being selfish i.e. they only care about their own 'little' holiday and do not care if those who serve them on the plane are underpaid/stresed/poorly treated!     Unite says BA's decision to withdraw its offer to cabin crew 'beggars belief'

    Does it.. The union wan't to have their cake and eat it. We'll go on strike and still negotiate with them. The only thing that beggars belief is that in todays climate Willie Walsh does not sack all the strikers for withholding their labour and employ a new set of staff under the revised conditions which by all accounts would still be the best in the industry and make BA a viable company

    This is becoming a very vicious dispute between the crew branch BASSA and Willie Walsh.With BA's future now threatened Willie Walsh has to act in the best interests of cutomers and shareholders.
    Millions of working people have been affected by the recession and had to undergo change, BA Cabin Crew are very well paid and cannot expect to be some kind of special case.
    Air travellers enjoy a wide choice and they will determine BA's future.

    I flew with BA last Christmas, when the strike was initially to take place. The threat of that strike caused me a great deal of stress, and the recurring threat of strikes has turned me away from BA. I am due to fly out of the UK in the run up to Easter, but I should not be affected by the strikes because I have opted to use an alternative carrier. I understand that the cause of the strike was the reduction of cabin crew from sixteen to fifteen on certain flights. The likely result of the strikes will be a reduction from sixteen to zero.

    Why can't Unite see that BA are looking at the future of the company. OK, say they back down to Unites ransom, in 6 months time BA could go into administration........I worked in the travel industry when the Gulf War was on, I took a pay cut, others took voluntary redundancy.I would rather have worked in a job that pays less and had a future than keep high pay and possibly not have a job the next year. The unions back in the 1990's only had they're own pockets and interests at heart, nothing's changed.

    I am due to fly BA and if I cannot travel because of strikes, my anger/concern will be vented towards UNITE. BA have the interest of the company.

    I am due to fly on the 25th, so I have escaped (so far) the strike dates. However, the BA site is confusing because it still states that my flight may be disrupted. There needs to be clear and concise details of what is happening.

    As for the union, I find it disgusting that they have this kind of power and control of a company like BA. It is little more than blackmail, and personally I think given the current economic climate, the staff are lucky to have jobs at all!

    What do Unite think they are doing ? Many people in this country have had to endure short time working hours and reduced pay in an effort to keep their jobs and companies in business. Unites action potentially puts another great UK company at risk with many subsequent job losses.It would appear that Unite consider themselves immune to the economic realities of todays world !

    I fail to understand why anybody actually spends their own money on a BA ticket. OK if you are one of the MPs and civil servants up in first class then you are going to get royally shmoosed at the tax payers expense (probably in hope of securing subsidies/bailouts).
    If you are paying for your own seat ‘behind the curtain’ you could get treated like cattle by Easyjet … or pay twice as much to be treated with contempt, and like cattle, by our wanabe state sector airline.

    I support the management.Why do the union leaders appear to think that they alone are able to run the airline? Why do the union members follow their leaders like lemmings over the cliff's edge? From Alitalia to Lufthansa to Olympic et al all airlines face a perilous financial future! I always thought that BA led the way but that it did not include the route to oblivion..obviously the unions new holiday destination!

    Not sure why UNITE, as a union, seem to be at the root of so many disputes in the UK for around two years now?

    Are UNITE becoming more vociferous, or are employers becoming more arrogant and sly?

    Hmm? Why would UNITE encourage cabin crew to strike in such difficult times?

    Is there a deal with Iberia and BA still going on? Is this about Gordon Brown allowing 'pension holidays' for companies that have led to pension black holes? Is Iberia Airlines PR people drumming up trouble to bring down share prices? Well, manipulators always do well at the expense of the manipulated? What do any of us know what's really going on?

    Nope - my next holiday is booked for the summer half-term week and is on an island British Airways don't fly to, so even if the company is still trying to tear itself apart I will not be affected.

    It's time that ALL employees of British Airways dropped the 'them & us' nonsense, realised that they all work for the same company and that they need to pull together to turn it around, though. It is a disgrace that either 'side' is prepared to leave the negotiating table before a settlement is reached, however long it takes. (Perhaps someone ought to have locked them in!)

    Over the last decade I've made a lot of regular trips to and from mainland Europe, and honestly, after being seriously delayed six trips in a row I totally abandonned BA and flying.

    I remember being delayed eight hours for a flight to london, and wasn't offered compensation, access to decent seating, a taxi at the other end or even a drink. That for me was the decider, you get delayed one hour on Eurostar you get a free ticket!

    I now take the Eurostar to Paris on a regular basis, door to door, it saves me an hour, I'm not subjected to humiliating searches, I only have to check in half an hour before the trip, during the last ten trips I haven't been delayed once, it's less stressful generally and finally I make my return trip in first class, food, champagne, magazines and large seat included for the same price as a return flight. There's isn't a photo finish here for me.

    Obviously the short haul market is dead for the airlines with this kind of competition, I don't even compare prices now.

    So, no the strikes haven't impacted me, and nor will they.

    I fail to understand the logic of this strike. BA staff already have one of the more generous packages in the industry and their company has made substantial losses.

    Who, in their right mind, would book a flight with a company that is under threat of strikes and it's that revenue that these people need to ensure continued employment.

    If BA does go into administration the staff will have nobody to blame but themselves.

    Due to fly out on 20th for a 2 week business trip that incorporates visits to 6 different cities. Obviously wouldn't want to miss the first leg of that trip otherwise everything scuppered

    My only gripe is BA's lack of flexibility (sounds familiar I hear you say). I can get an alternative to the first leg (on a different airline) and do my trip. The only problem is that if I do that then BA automatically cancel my return journey as they treat me as a no show. This seems slightly harsh as I would only not use them if they couldn't provide the service that I have already paid for.

    I am perplexed. I don't want a full refund (which they are offering) and want to fly back with them as originally planned. Why this ridiculous policy?

    Still, I will always think that WW is flying the airline into the ground and worry that we will have to put up with more spin for the next week. I reckon he should partner up at Ryan Air - what a double act that would be ;)

    Does it affect me, nope, I travel regularly to the middle east. If I fly BA business class to Dubai the fare is £2972.70. If I fly Qatar business class to Doha and then onwards to say Lahore stoppinf over for a couple of hours in a fabulaous business lounge with everything laid on including a good restaurant ,great food, no extra charge I pay £ 1750. Which option would you take ?
    The only people hurting anyone are the BA staff hurting themselves. Sort of reminds me of the Red Robbo days. As BA hurtles to destruction the cabin crew decide to jump from 35000 feet without a parachute. Clever!!!!

    I work for BA and even though I'm sorry people are going to miss their flights/holidays etc,I have to think of my family's future..there is no future for me in this company if we let them recruit cheaper labour forcing us to sign new lower contracts or simply quit as we'll be starved off work..There is a much bigger agenda than what's being discussed on the news,WE already offered to take a pay cut(similar to the pilots),the company is only interested in pushing us into strike action so they can divide the members and break the union.FACT !

    UNITE should be relegated to the history books. This is 2010. Competition is fierce, the aviation industry is facing the toughest trading conditions in its history and airlines around the world are going bankrupt.

    Let managers manage - do the cabin crew honestly think they know how best to achieve cost savings?! It's unbelieveable that BA can be damaged in this way yet again. Ultimately this will cost more jobs and UNITE must accept responsibilty.

    The only silver lining I can possibly see out of all this is [hopefully] it will lead to the collapse of the out-dated trade union and its restrictive control of BA. Please don't allow unite to destroy what was once the worlds favourite airline - if it isn't too late already!

    The union said they would not strike over Easter. Technically they aren't, but as far as most of the General public is concerned they are, as the proposed 4 day strike from the 27th March will affect those people going on holiday over Easter as most fly before the actual holiday. Same principle applied at Christmas.
    Why anyone considers flying with BA is beyond me. I was messed about by them five years ago and have not used them since, and never will again. Anybody who was put through the mill at Christmas and now, will if they have any sense remember this action by the union and never use BA again.
    It's only a matter of time before the company goes bust, as it can not survive with the negative goodwill it has built up, British Leyland did the same, and look what happened to them in the end.

    I'm not affected, as I've been caught in too many of the union's actions against BA in the past. This trouble was clearly still coming, and I like others have been avoiding BA meantime. This will just hurt the company's results more, and put further pressure on jobs and pay, with more business moving toward competitors who pay less and have lower staff levels on the plane. The ignorance of the union in not recognising the cause and effect of their actions, and the position BA is in, is breathtaking.
    Perhaps if the staff stopped wasting their pay packets on union membership fees that are mainly used for political purposes, they would not have a problem at all.

    Yes I'm affected! I work in the travel industry and this strike is causing problem ontop of problem for my clients! The cabin crew are being extremely selfish about this, and deserve to lose their perks for taking strike action. How would they feel if they had booked a holiday that had taken months and months to save for, and was then disrupted by selfish money hungry cabin crew?????? I'm sure they would feel exactly the same as all those passengers who now have to find alternative arrangements, assuming they can! Nightmare!!!

    I am a frequent traveller but will definitely not be affected by the BA strike as I will be doing what I did the last time I travelled - I will be avoiding BA like the plague!

    Perhaps the BA staff should consider this before they continue in their quest to make BA appear as the most unreliable airline in the business!

    We have booked flights with BA to a wedding in South Africa and are therefore probably going to be affected by the strike. In addition, the bride and groom are on the same flight as us and now have something extra to worry about, in addition to the wedding preparations. I can honestly say that, if the strike goes ahead, I shall never fly BA again. Virgin must be rubbing its hands in glee. It seems as if Unite is determined to send BA the same way as the unions sent the motor industry...

    There is only one person to blame for the state of industrial relations at British Airways, Willie Walsh. Why do you think he was brought in as the head of BA after the mess he has left behind at Aer Lingus ? To crush the union.

    The experienced cabin crew who have served BA faithfully for decades have absolutely nothing to lose, but maybe just maybe they might be able to keep hold of their career by standing up to the bullying and harrasment they experience on a daily basis at work from the "management". Thankfully they have Unite to support them.

    Too right it's going to affect me! Living on an island in the middle of the Atlantic where the only direct flights to the UK are via BA, I feel like I am being held hostage! I decided to fly the week before Easter due to the extortionate costs of traveling to the UK over the holiday, only to find myself on strike warning. I have no sympathy for the cabin crew; those servicing this route have been working with one less cabin crew member for some time without complaint (Gatwick long-haul). I suspect the long-haul, lucrative routes will be little affected, but the internal flights after my 7 hour red-eye most certainly will. So much for a weekend with the family - Cheers Unite!

    I haven't flow BA for years.

    For the same reason I haven't flown Alitalia or Aeroflot.

    And I avoid Heathrow like a pest.

    Fortunately I have a choice.

    P.S. IMHO the best service across the Atlantic is Virgin.

    Can I suggest that the BA staff who will lose their jobs as a consequence of their strike action should not be entitled to any benefits for at least a year. As a tax payer I object to my money going on providing for such idiots.

    I fail to see the long term use of striking in the current economy. Surely the union realises that it is supposed to represent the interests of the employees of the business. This should mean keeping them in employment. Sadly, unions are only ever destructive, and appear to be run by people with power complexes who do not have the required competences to climb the actual career ladder. The government has to step in - all you have to do is look over the channel to see the impact of too much union power.

    BA has enough problems without this, and personally if I were a manager in BA and as a result of this could no longer afford to run the same size of team next year, the union members would the first to go.

    All I hope is that the conservatives get elected and bring these unions to their knees where they belong. All they do is generate a workforce of greed. BA are losing money and need to take measures to survive. The unions come up with there own proposals? Sorry but why are you head of a union??'s because you couldn't make it in the real world so what makes you think you can turn the company around.
    Unions are losing credibility because they are just hurting the public because they are too stubborn to realise that it is they who are being unreasonable!!
    The cabin crew got goaded by the unions to strike and it is they that will lose out on perks etc, while the union fat-cats just carry on like nothing has happended.

    How predictable. UNITE claimed they would avoid Easter holidays yet clearly didn't check their facts carefully enough as many schools break up on 26th. We have booked to fly to Texas with our 1 year old son to see family members. We are also travelling with my sister-in-law and her two children under 5. Hanging around in limbo for the next two weeks, or even at the airport, is going to be hellish. As a teacher I am not able to be flexible about my travel dates. We had also chosen not travel during the summer as all the children are very fair. Car hire has been booked, as have hotels in the UK, and two days in Seaworld as a special treat for our nephew's birthday. This will be the last time that I fly with BA as neither party in this dispute seems to value our custom.

    Will you be affected by the BA strike? Personally I won't be affected.

    By calling a strike the Unions are just alienating the very people they are supposed to be serving (the passengers). At the same time, the dogged behaviour of BA is not helping matters. It is about time that both the Unions and BA actually sat around a table and talked about the problems that each side faces. They should keep at it until a mutual agreement can be made, even if it means they stay at the table all night.

    In situations like this, there has got to be a bit of give and take on both sides, otherwise it festers for ages and nobody wins. This should not be a case of lets bash the Unions, and as it is a private company the Government should not get involved.

    The whole country will be affected by this action. We must look like a nation of goons to the rest of the world. This doesn't just affect UK residents.

    Yes people did die so future generations could have a better quailty of life and this is exactly what the BA cabin crew have - they're not working in a coal mine or being sent up chimneys to clean them. The vast majority of them earn a hell of a lot more than I do, they should be thankful they still have a job - no doubt they'll be the first to bitch and moan when BA announces that they have to cut jobs because of these strikes.

    I’m afraid to say that when it comes to searching for flights I don’t even go onto BA’s website anymore. I have booked my next trip to the U.S. with Virgin Atlantic who are now the first airline I check flights with.
    I don't want to see Britain's flag carrier go under but I can only more and more people deciding to book flights with other airlines for fear of disruption.

    I had booked a flight with BA to attend a meeting on 22 March but of course this is when the strike is. Even though it's not my personal money that i will lose it is tax payers money as i work in a Government Departments. Shame on you BA.

    I am flying abroad soon. After the stress the Christmas saga caused me, this time around I didn't even consider booking with BA.
    I am flying with Easyjet this time and I think I'll keep doing so from now on as I don't need to fear trouble for the sake of some overpaid cabin crew.
    I support industrial action but this needs to be proportionate to the issue. BA cabin crew are ona power trip.

    Personally im not going to be affected as im flying with BA in July, but i would just like to say that in a climate where an awful lot of people do not have jobs and are struggling desperately to maintain a living and support their families i think it is very callous of them to strike. They have jobs. ok there may be slight problems, but in this climate, if it were me i would just shut up and be grateful for the fact that i have a job, when there are probably hundreds of people who would love to get my job. I think theyre being very selfish. and i hesitate to say that as ive flown with BA before and found their service to be excellent. but this action, at this time, is very very selfish.

    I would have thought that the employers had had the upper hand for the last 25 years at least, since the Miner's Strike. The UK has lost fewer days to industrial action than many of our successful competitors. So just why do so many of your respondents fain such concern about overpaid Union members ruining the county and calling the tune in the Labour Party?

    So far as I can see, the economy, the ability of large firms to compete, and the UK's role in World have steadily declined during this period of TU weakness - just as they did when TU's were strong. The difference being that during this period the investors and managers have got richer and everyone else is poorer, and working conditions have plummeted. What we need are companies that can not only make a profit, but provide above breadline wages and decent pensions, plus they can trade with the World at a profit.

    We have already proved that a cheap pound and cheap labour don't achieve this. The time has come for CEOs to get together with the Unions to actually make companies work to all our benefit.

    Airlines BA included rip off passengers constantly, for instance they charge a return flight London to san francisco £300 but from London to Brazil, which is nearer, they charge £650 and that is theft.
    They deserve all they are getting from crew members who do a great job in a very harsh enviroment, all the good luck to then on the dispute.

I do find it funny all the fuss the BBC and Sky are making over this strike they seem very pro-ba could it be because the middle classes are the only ones that this strike will affect, most of the rest of country either can't afford to go abroad for two weeks at easter or they are working.

    i have friend with more than 10 years service with BA and a basic salary of £15000 pa,they rely on extras to make up there wages to a decent standard.

    I think BA are finished. They will not recover from this, even if the strikes do not got ahead.
    I would assume that those you were potentially affected at Christmas, will after their close call have vowed to never use BA again. And anybody affected now will do likewise.
    Hopefully anybody that has had to book flights since Christmas will have avoided BA like the plague as this action was foreseeable.

    Sometimes you wonder what planet Unite are living on. It certainly isn't ours here and now, that's for sure. Their arrogance in this whole affair is bewildering - they don't seem to understand that this could ruin BA. BA may be a national institution, but it is still a private company which has to make money to survive and it will go under if it continues making substantial losses - common sense I know but I genuinely believe the idiotic fat cats at the top of the union can't see this.

    I'm all for staff having the right to strike, it's the basic right of any working man or woman, but there has to be some justification for it. Recently we've had postal workers and now BA cabin crew going on strike without any justification whatsoever - they should be grateful that they have cosy, well paid, relatively safe jobs in a very uncertain world at the moment. BA should be granted the power to sack any worker who participates in this strike - that's draconian I know but there are plenty of unemployed people out there who would jump at the package BA are offering to their over pampered staff. Strikes such as this should, frankly, be made illegal.

    I have been a frequent flyer with BA for past 30 years and have always received a most excellent and professional service from the cabin crew.It seems a shame that such a loyal workforce has been driven to threatening strike action. Come on BA sort this out!

    Workers are naturally frustrated when the conditions they have grown acustom too are adjusted; on a personal basis I can see that you have little scope to reflect on the wider implication of macro economics on your employer when you are hardly living it up and especially when your employer is a behmoth. The issue here is BA in their generosity shared their success very generously with their staff who have exceptionaly high salaries and perks. The workers there today are also left supporting the workes of the past and an enormous pension deficit. They now need to recognise that we the passengers, and I've flown first class many timeson BA, don't need so much of their time, don't want so much contact, don't want to to the name of the cabin crew purser, in fact stop using the PA, and even on business shorthall we'd rather by a pret sandwich than have an BA food at all - it doesn't take as many people to hand out a sandwich as it does serve a cooked breakfast - Two cabin crew members per cabin should be ample.

    Ba Workers are trying to protect the terms and conditions their Union has fight so hard for over the last two decades !what's wrong with that ?Yes they are better paid than easyjet and ryanair but not better than air france ,klm or lifthansa ! anyway the dispute is not over payment,Unite has already offered a 2.6% pay cut which W.Walsh has rejected ! BA is planning to recruit a new cheaper labour force working independently from the main fleet..means that the work will progressively shift to that new fleet forcing people to accept new lower contracts or leave..I'm not a militant but I will do what it takes to protect the future of my family.

    BA say that they have 1000 of their other staff who have volunteered to do the work of cabin staff who are striking.
    If that's the case then it's no wonder that BA are nearly broke because if they can divert that number of staff then they cannot have been doing essential work in the first place.

    Alan Baker asserts that this is unions flexing their muscles, What muscles?
    Firstly the membership voted overwhelmingly for strike action, not once, but twice, the first strike was deemed illegal as a small numbe of votes were cast by some who had left the industry, it must be very difficult to keep up with some individuals leaving a company, as the second ballot has shown this was not fiddled! This has not been decided by some union baron, but by the membership, strangely this is called democracy.

    Secondly if union membership declines to any great extent then the union barons as they are refered to will take a pay cut.

    I do not believe that BA staff are some left wing militant group, therefor it is reasonable to assume that they have some grievance and perhaps this should be born in mind, most disputes are never purely one side right the other side right!
    I know not all the issues in the BA dispute, however I doubt that the union is all to blame and Mr. Walsh totally right.
    As this country moves ever more to the right when will it be accepted that we are living in a far right wing country?

    I am completely bewildered by the greed and stupidity of this Unite union representing the cabin crew of BA.
    How will they feel when they no longer even have a job?
    BA is now doomed.
    I cannot believe that the government will bail BA out, because they are not in a position to do so.
    I'm a huge supporter of BA, even though I endured one of the worst experiences in my life a few years ago during one of their strikes.
    I've just about got over that today, but now AGAIN, I am facing disruption & disappointment because I am due to travel to Berlin for an Easter break.

    When so many are out fo work, and in a time when many airlines have gone under, BA staff are being utterly selfish. Very few people have any sympathy for anyone striking at the moment, unemployment is very high and if you have a job you ought to be grateful for it instead of bitin the hand that feeds you. If you are not happy with your job then resign and give someone else the oppertunity to do it rather than holding not only your employers, but other businesses that may rely on you, to ransom.

    This is yet another example of why unions and strikes are outmoded relics that ought to be made illegal.

    This particular strike will affect less than 0.05 of the population, of those it will be Business Class fliers and the Filthy Rich. The Real travellers do not fly BA, overrated and overpriced.
    This is a NON discussion for HYS, we should be debating real issues that affect a majority not the bloated few who can afford to charter there own aircraft or right it off as an expense.

    I am due to fly over the second strike period and will be completely unaffected by this action. I chose a rival airline for my needs as I didnt want this threat of action to destroy my trip.

    I cant say it was foresight of the date, but I knew there was a risk and hence avoided BA. It was a good job i did or I would have found myself stuck in foreign fields! I have blown BA before and would again..well...if they stop all this strike nonsense anyway.

    Striking in the middle of the worst recession (of course Gordon tells us we are out of recession and no doubt Unite believe it as well!) in a generation is not particularily sensible, but oh well, you pays you money you takes your chances. I see you strikers are getting hardly any support from the public here, and why would you?

    Having seen the reasons for the strike I am utterly unsympathetic. Pay freeze for two years? Boo hoo, I have been on a pay cut for the LAST two years and cant see it improving over the next two thanks to Labours mismanagement of the economy. Enjoy your jobs while you have them.

    Unite will happily squander your union dues on supporting Labour and they will happily squander it helping the BA staff to destroy BA. You wont be complaining about your pay and conditions soon because you wont have a job when BA go under. Flyers wont miss you as someone more efficient and cost effective like Virgin will just take your slots.

    I agree in principle but this sort of thing has to be tempered with a little common sense. Striking in the middle of a recession is so mind numbingly stupid that only a small number of unions would contemplate it.

    I really do not understand why the public are not ALL planning to join in this Strike - make it a national protest at the incompetence, moral bankruptcy and corruption infesting all our institutions, big business and government! Isn't it time for change? Isn't it time for action? Isn't it about time the Public stood together and demonstrated their collective anger at the state of the nation? What's the matter with people, worrying about cancelled flights? Your whole country is about to be cancelled by the darkest shadow you can imagine, the economy if falling into the abyss and at a fundamental level its bad management that created the destruction of all your industry, all your social welfare, your education system, your communities, your towns and cities! £50k in debt per person? Wake UP, Look around your neighbourhoods! The country is in serious trouble folks - Do something about it NOW! Go on Strike - Just say NO more!
