2011 champions Newtonmore remain firmly at the top of the Orion Group Premiership after a 6-2 away win at Inveraray.

Russell MacInlay opened the scoring for the home side, but it wasn't long before 'More's Danny Macrae and Glen Macintosh had three between them.

'Rary's Stuart Robertson pulled one back shortly after half-time, however another Danny MacRae double and a single from Macintosh put a smile on at least one side of Badenoch.

Last year's champions Newtonmore sit top of the Orion Premiership on goal difference after a 4-2 home win over Kinlochshiel.

Newtonmore exploded into a 3-0 lead after only 30 minutes through a David Cheyne double, followed by a Danny Macrae strike.

Finlay Macrae did manage to pull two back for the visitors, however Steven MacDonald put the final nail in the Shiel coffin with his 76th-minute strike to ensure both points went to 'More.

The Camanachd Association's new rule, that allows them to decide that a game should be played at a neutral park if the home team's field is unplayable, struck at the weekend.

Fort William and Kinlochshiel both had to travel to Kiltarlity, the home ground of Lovat to fulfil their fixture.

Both home and away fields were unplayable so the Camanachd took the decision to move the game to a neutral venue to prevent a backlog of games.

Do you think this is a good way of preventing a backlog, or do you feel you should be allowed to wait until your home field is playable?

To the Orion Group Premiership match itself, Kinlochshiel would have been pumped after last week's debut win against Kingussie and they were on the score sheet after just 15 minutes through Gordy MacDonald.

Aaron Macphee, who I praised last week, celebrated his 16th birthday on Monday, and scored Fort's equaliser on 75minutes.

There was, however, to be no winner with both clubs having to settle for a share of the points.

Shinty's new season gets underway

The 2012 Premiership got underway on Saturday and I'm sure few could have predicted the outcome of some fixtures.

Last year's champions Newtonmore opened their season at home against Lovat and found themselves three down in under 30 minutes, thanks to hat-trick hero, Greg Matheson.

'More did manage to pull one back with seconds remaining courtesy of an own goal from Lovat's Daniel Grieve.

This is a fantastic start for the Kiltarlity men and few would have expected new manager Allan Macrae and Co to waltz off with both points from this one.
