New to BH? Watch out, this post contains spoilers from series one...

It's a pretty bold move writing out your lead villain (and his main henchman) at the end of your first series.  So, with a Herrick-sized hole looming over the mid-series period, producers Matt and Rob give us the low down on how it will affect the second series.

  • Comment number 1.

    Once again, thankyou team.

I really loved Herrick...such a scary villain mainly because he didn't look scary at all. He had quite a cherubic face and some brilliant one-liners. Don't think there would have been much chance of him ever getting dull....but Toby knows best. Don't think the new guy is going to make me giggle though...still, we'll see.

I wondered if the team were surprised at how popular he became with the fans

  • Comment number 2.

Yes Toby knows best but still don't expect us not to be extremely grumpy about losing our Herrick and Seth :-( but we'll forgive you if you give us a good series 2 :-)

  • Comment number 3.

How intriguing(?) I love Matt's line about the villains coming from unexpected places. I absolutely loved Herrick but yeah Toby probably does know best but what an act to follow! God I can't wait for the next series.

  • Comment number 4.

driving:: yep, that is exactly what I meant..'what an act to follow'.

How is His Royal Tobyness (with all his brilliance) going to get a better villain that H. (no pressure then, Tobes)

  • Comment number 5.

I'm sure i've said it before but I'm convinced that new villain will be female and maybe aloof and alluring (note to self: don't do blogging when had more than 2 glasses of red wine) anyway I'm sure you're all on BBC1 now so adieu or french equivalent!

  • Comment number 6.

Nah its gonna be that fella on the phone at the end of episode 6 thats why "donald" got his own little bit on the "they're back" video he's obviously the final most important character in the top 5...also think Nina will have much bigger part in this series. Eugh I'm rambling its been a long day lol.

  • Comment number 7.

WOW arghh when is it on !... I cant wait lol

    :) xxx

  • Comment number 8.

Yeah eagle's right, it's got to be the guy on the phone, or the guy on the other end of the phone. Although do you get the feeling that the man on the phone is a pre-curser to the really big bad guy?
I'm so excited that's it's going to bbc1 too, now EVERYONE can see how good it is.
Toby, you're fantastic and I can't wait for it to start!!

  • Comment number 9.

    Gush gush gush.

  • Comment number 10.

So happy for them for it being on bbc1 (Oh to be Aidan right about now - this time last year practically unheard of now he has a bbc2 AND a bbc1 show lucky lucky boy) lots of people I know watched it last night - first text I got when I finished work last night "just saw that vampire thing you were on about its well funny and yeah the irish guy is really hot!" ok so i don't have the most eloquent friends lol but it seems to have gone down well so yay :-D

Its wierd I kinda feel proud of it lol I know its not mine to be proud of but do you not feel a bit like that because we've been with it from the start?

  • Comment number 11.

I think Toby said a while ago that the new villain will be Professor Jaggart (or whatever) the person at the other end of the phone that Donald was talking to. Still think it's a woman though.

  • Comment number 12.

My next neighbours finally watched it last night after all the post-it notes I left on their fridge. They liked it but I was expecting texts straight after going something like "Oh my God this is so fanatastic!" but it didn't happen.

  • Comment number 13.

We've talked about music that could be featured on BH on here before. If you get a minute check out "Werewolf" by Catpower on Youtube.

  • Comment number 14.

Eagle (10) Irish guy ...hot...I hope you explained, gently, that the Irish guy is spoken for.

How fab was that.....I tried really hard to forget that I already knew every word by heart and watch it anew......couldn't do it. I was there telling Mitchell..."this is what I am" and Seth "a bit Jacobs creeky for me" and Herrick " You're a shark, be a shark", George "Have you got a hole?"...and all the other fab lines,

I know I am gushing but am currently in BH heaven

  • Comment number 15.

Sorry...just remembered that this is 'Losing Herrick'...not 'BH back on Beeb 1'...but just had to have a little ramble....am sure the Team will indulge me.

  • Comment number 16.

  • Comment number 17.

Hey, even though Herrick has gone, I'm sure if you put as much thought into the second series as you did in the first it will be GREAT! Can't wait to watch it now! Cooooooool

  • Comment number 18.

I'll miss Herrick (and Jason). He was such a great smarmy villain.

Maybe they can take scraps of his corpse from the Iso room and some deranged scientist can make the world's first cloned vampire.

  • Comment number 19.

Woo super thanks for that - so Mitchell isn't the one who dies then :-D

And VF I'm sorry looks like you have competition :-P

  • Comment number 20.

I'll miss Herrick too..but also miss Jason's sense of humour as seen on videocams.
drivingsusan...I think you've got something there re future villian alluring female..I'm sure I remember Toby saying either on some interview or blog that there will be a love tryst set up in BH2 which could snare our heroes....even if I've dreamt that it would be a great story line although as I've said before..Toby please...when are they going to find love?
SuperOchre...thanks for website..interesting about ratings...apart from the fact that BBC ( along with all other companies) set up sample groups for ratings info, I don't really know how they gather a true picture...like most people I know I rarely watch any programme when it's actually broadcast...I record it or watch it on line via IPlayer of the like...are these taken into account for ratings?..if not then BBc not gathering a full picture. This may explain why they are claiming poor ratings for Desperate Romantics deapite the fact that many twenty somethings I know are watching it online.

Found another recent article re Aidan from irish paper..
vamfan..little warning...he does discuss his girlfriend in it..!
I knew he had the latin moves as soon as I saw him..!

  • Comment number 21.

Hehe yeah we all like that interview although I do think the blog team are obliged to get Aidan to show us some moves before the next series...

(I'm sure vampfan would be more than happy to offer herself up as dance partner if necessary lol)

  • Comment number 22.

Oh and I'm not sure how they do the ratings but I remember last series they said on here that about half of the viewers were watching the show online the day before so they must take it into account somehow.

Nah can't be a female villain it'd be too easy - I mean have you seen Mitchell? I'm sorry but that face could get them out of any scrape involving any right minded woman...and come to think of it even if it's a completely insane woman unless she's blind and deaf they'd be fine lol

  • Comment number 23.

Brown....I am fully aware that he has a girlfriend......I choose to ignore it!!.....I actually look quite funny with my rear-end up in the air and my head in the sand!!

Now, no more mention please unless you want to see me with running mascara and snot bubbles......no really..you really don't want to see that!! it's not a good look for me!!

  • Comment number 24.

The professor (can never catch the name...Jaggart?...Jarrad?) being a woman?? must say I had not thought of that one. But eagle has a point, any red-blooded woman (no pun intended)would get to the crunch bit, look into those eyes....then tut and say 'Oh, alright then, you win'
Anyway, whoever is going to have to be pretty good to replace Herrick in the fans' affections.

Super:: Thanks for the pointer to the interview

  • Comment number 25.

Vampfan I expected much more excitement over the fact we now know your beloved isn't going to be the one to pop his clogs this series?

And the way he says "the other guys" hmm he doesnt actually say who but I'm guessing maybe none of the main three die...maybe that was just Toby being mean - myabe its the bad bloke who gets bumped off - be quite interesting to have a new villain every series lol OR Nina dies...which is what my moneys on I think.

  • Comment number 26.

eagle:: never entered my head that HE would be the one!! (You know by now that I inhabit a different world to.... well, reality.)

Having said that, I would be heartbroken if it were George or Annie either.....Toby wouldn't do that to us surely....would he?

Yeah....you're right it got to be the bad bloke.

Having said that I think Nina is great but if somebody's got to go......

  • Comment number 27.

I can't really see the show working if one of the three dying really... I dunno it just wouldn't be the same. (I think I've said this before actually.:/) Anyway I agree with Eagle. All my money goes on Nina.

  • Comment number 28.

Heh vampfan...surely love for the beautiful one can go beyond fantasy world discussions?....don't know about you but I find that real world/fantasy world can combine ...maybe I'm just lucky that real world Man is laid back and content with real/fantasy life.
I'm sure that he would be cool with me being AT's dancing partner seeing as how I AM the salsa dancing queen!
Oh..and yeh before I go to eat meal cooked by Man...I agree that Nina will be significant in BH2 ....I still think that the Prof mentioned in final scene will need someone to ensnare our fab 3....and I still think some sort of femme fatale will be involved ..perhaps she'll be made to collude with the Prof for some reason....perhaps a new 'race' is envisaged by the Prof which needs something taken from supernaturals ..I'll leave the 'something' to your imagination but I think you know what I mean....

  • Comment number 29.

brown:: That's the problem, realworld and fantasy are combined where AT and BH are concerned. My other half just shakes his head and looks at me 'Bless her, she's finally tipped over' Even the kids are asking me if I love a vampire....think dad's been grassing me up!

  • Comment number 30.

    Right, that's me off now.

Will never rest tonight with all these ideas and trying to second-guess Toby going through my rather empty head. We cannot keep this up till series 2 actually airs.....we will all be in padded cells on strong medication.
    On that happy thought....night all

  • Comment number 31.

Lol no Toby couldn't do that...but mind you we don't know his writing too well so maybe he would? If it was written by Russell T Davies I'd expect them all to be dead by the end of it lol Grr poor Ianto :-( death by the davies...shocking, shocking way to go. sorry I'm still upset about losing my Ianto lol hmm anyway yeah more I think about it I think it'd be Nina to go - story wise I could see George going but I don't think they're brave/stupid enough to write Russell out

  • Comment number 32.

eagle:: You know it's strange, I loved every Dr. episode that Russell T. did, I also loved Captain Jack....but for some reason I never got on with Torchwood....don't ask...no idea.
But I did watch the week-long special and never expected Ianto to die.
Yes you are right.....Toby must never go on holiday or have a day off or even a dentist appointment in case they let Russell T. loose....anything could happen.

  • Comment number 33.

Yes Toby keep Russell away from being human! I know he's good and we love him but no no keep the bad man away from Mitchell Annie and George lol.

I love torchwood but I can see why some people don't - but then I was never huge on doctor who - I liked it and watched it now and then but I never got absolutely crazy about it until I got into Torchwood so I think I got into them in the wrong order lol but I like Jack more in Torchwood than in doctor who - he seems completely different I guess its because he's so naughty etc in torchwood then when he's on at 7 o clock he has to behave himself lol

  • Comment number 34.

What was the girl in Torchwood called? she has the most amazing accent....could have listened to her talk all day.
Jack/naughty.....I think it is his eyes!!(and the face helps, I suppose)

  • Comment number 35.

    Aww yeah poor Ianto. :(

Vamp: you mean Gwen? Or Tosh? Gwen's the main one. She the welsh one. I prefer Tosh though.

Russel T. Davies is going to America so it's highly unlikely that he'll get his hands on BH lol.

  • Comment number 36.

I would venture to guess that the writers would not be so inept as to kill off one of the main characters (unless of course they have some way of bringing the character back in a plausible way). Barring that, Nina would be the obvious choice to kill off, which makes me think she will NOT be. I'm guessing it will be Owen. Something along the lines of the "villains" do not want the information he has to go publice. They kill him off, set it up as a suicide. Done. Or maybe not, but I still say stick a fork in him, he's done.

  • Comment number 37.

Yeah, spell check would be nice. I meant public, not publice. My apologies. I'm still a little tired from the drive back home.

  • Comment number 38.

C I know hes going to America but its kinda a given that there'll be another series of torchwood (haven't decided how I feel about it yet lol what with 3 of the main characters dead but hey how bad can more John Barrowman be? :-D) so he'll be back at some point! And well Toby wrote an episode of Torchwood so who knows...

I liked Tosh shame she's gone :-( would've liked to have seen her and Owen finally get together although I prefer Gwen - as a character not as a person lol feel so sorry for Rhys :-( can't say I blame her though - I mean I'm no cheat never have never would but I'm thinking captain jack comes knocking at your door and you make an exception lol

  • Comment number 39.

Gwen....that's it, thanks cieria...fab accent. Come to think of it Russell T has a lovely soft welsh lilt aswell.

So where are we then, either Nina or Owen for the big heave-oh. I know who I would go for.

  • Comment number 40.

My machine will not let me watch any of the little vids on the pages.....just getting black screen with that turny-turny thingy (hope this is not too technical for you). Is it my machine or is anyone else getting the same thing?

  • Comment number 41.

I can see them vampfan so perhaps your machine?

  • Comment number 42.

Strange:: cannot get the Des Rom vids either but You Tube and all the other stuff is fine...maybe it's just the Beeb that has taken against me. Got a new TV Licence this week aswell. Anyway will go away and try swearing at it....usually works. Thanks for checkng.

  • Comment number 43.

Vampfan, (re: #39), that is unless we want to factor in another loose end, Janey. Maybe that toxic tan finally does her in. Or she's coverted to a vampire, pays Owen a visit (being his fiance' she may be allowed in) and kills him. Or,...nevermind. So, either Nina, Owen or Janey (or a combination of the 3).

  • Comment number 44.

FYI: for non-UK fans- the exclusive blog vids are starting to be posted on the BBC Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AS5d8R1ACQ

  • Comment number 45.

    @brownirisheyes I saw that interview, v.good.
BTW brownirisheyes, are you still having problems seeing the videos, I am. It's driving me nuts

  • Comment number 46.

Yeah....lets get rid of Tango Harris....she was very annoying...or what about the canteen lady? This could go on forever.

  • Comment number 47.

Thank you SO much to everyone who posted interviews and the you tube link. The American lag is making me crazy!

I almost wish someone could transcribe the vids in the comments for us underprivileged yanks... cough hint cough...

I hope our 3 are safe and sound ...though dying isn't necessarily a ticket out of this series...

  • Comment number 48.

HELP::: still cannot watch the little vids on the bbc pages...can anyone give me any ideas or at least tell me what the proper name for these vids is (God, I know I am useless) then at least I know what to ask for when I ask for help!

  • Comment number 49.

lionesskeeper and vampfan....I'm not a techie but it could be loss of broadband speed from modem/router...the only time I had trouble with videos etc was last year with IPlayer and it tuurned out that my broadband speed had suddenly dropped..try testing with
don't know what else to suggest..I can access all vidclips fine so it's not the site causing these problems

  • Comment number 50.

oooooh! ..now suddenly I can't open video clips anymore...!..so forget previous post obviously talking a load of ....

  • Comment number 51.

Not working for me either. Maybe it's down for everyone?

  • Comment number 52.

    That is all...night night :-)

  • Comment number 53.

God, it's bad enough having to share the vampire with you all, now I gotta share the turny-turny thing. Am currently at work and this one is working fine.....strange

Thanks for the suggestion brown...but didn't work

  • Comment number 54.

On you have been watching (tonight 10pm channel 4) they're talking about desperate romantics now in a way - yay because it kind of means the show has made it lol charlie brooker is great I normally love the show but its basically a big **** take out of the chosen program so I dunno if Im going to like listening to our Aidan being slagged off...VF be warned stay away from C4 tonight lol

  • Comment number 55.

Made me laugh though the online comments ready for tonights show one of them "they're PRE raphelites [spelt wrong I might add!] how the hell did they know?! Such a stupid unrealistic program!" Lol oh my god I have to nick a George word here - what a cretin!! Haha bless him.

  • Comment number 56.

Just returned homeand watched reording of tonight's Desperate Romantics....gggrrrrrrhhhhh! Just as well that Man had some luscious lasy to ogle or I'd have been in trouble over noises being made about the beautiful one and his ...lusciousness... BBC not stupid. They'd obviously spotted AT as future hot totty and set scenes for him accordingly. It's true that reviews are not good but they miss the point.the book, and the show, is not about art..it's about gorgeous, raunchy young men and one in particular..let's have more I say!

Oh and yes..glad that the problem with videoclips seems to have been resolved

  • Comment number 57.

The thing is there are plenty of boring (in my opinion), well behaved, educational historical artsy programs - if thats what people want then fine watch them instead - but desperate romantics is new its fresh and yeah its raunchy but hey if you wanna get young people interested in art and history then the BBC know damn well that thats the way to do it lol

  • Comment number 58.

Oh dear. oh dear, oh dear........is it me or is it very hot today?

eagle(54) Loved how charlie was trying to get Ben Miller and David Mitchell to slag the prog off...but they were having none of it....both saying how much they enjoyed it. Ha
    (57) I have been watching the prog about the Pre-Rafs, because of Des Roms and have really enjoyed it.

Off for a cold shower and a lie down now!!

  • Comment number 59.

seriously i go away for a couple of months, and the blog is inendated with new stuff!!! just my luck.

i LOVE You Have Been Watching. Charlie Brooker is hilarious. and i loved the bit on desperate romantics because it told me what had happened, because i dont watch it. i tried to and just couldnt get into it.

i dont even want to think what would happen if Russell was let loose on Being Human (everyone would get killed off probably).

i reckon it will probably be Nina that dies. just a feeling. or it will be owen, or janey or one of the other supporting characters that i forget about

  • Comment number 60.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear...VF I hate to think what state you were in last night lol I've just sat and watched the last 3 episodes of desperate romantics back to back on iplayer (saw last nights for the first time) and oh my god the beeb like to tease don't they lol oh he does have a truly, truly lovely, very very nice body doesn't he...hmm...what...yeah...oh I know it's only lunchtime but god I need a drink lol.

Toby I hope you're taking note - series 2 BH better see Mitchell erm...well getting over Lauren lol

  • Comment number 61.

Oh eagle::....it was hell but I stuck with in case there were questions later!!....just about got the breathing back under control but still along ways to go before we are stringing together any sort of sentence and I always find sweaty palms so unattractive don't you?(well, sweaty everything really!!)

  • Comment number 62.

I dunno sweaty everything not always unnatractive...Aidan seemed to pull it off quite well actually :-) (I'll just apologize now for completely regressing to giggly teenage crush state until well I don't know really - until real life gets a little more interesting maybe lol or until they stop showing me gorgeous half naked men :-))
