New to BH? Watch out, this post contains spoilers from series one...

In an earlier comment I mentioned 'something a bit special' coming to the blog, and here it is. A previously unseen treat dug out from the archives by Being Human creator Toby Whithouse.  I'll let him explain...

Ok, so I was looking at the site the other day and saw the blog about werewolves in film etc, and it reminded me of something I'd written during series 1.

This was the first draft of the pre-titles sequence for episode 2 - the Tully episode. I really liked it but when we looked at it in the context of the whole script, it felt tonally out of step with the rest of the episode. We were still developing the show at this stage, still working out exactly what it was, and there were lots of stories and characters and scenes that were written, scrutinised and ultimately jettisoned because we instinctively knew they didn't fit.

In this instance we replaced it with the description of what happens to a human being's physiology when he turns into a werewolf, which I think was a more appropriate start to that story.

Even so, I think it's an intriguing little sequence and it occurred to me that you might be interested in seeing it.

So if that's got you curious, check out this never-before-seen section of deleted script.

  • Comment number 2.

    Yay thank you :-)

  • Comment number 3.

I agree the final one worked better but thats brilliant - shame there wasnt a home for it :-( but they say you're only as good as the best thing you cut so that just shows how good the show was really. Any chance theres anything else like this we could have a peek at? :-) please :-)

  • Comment number 4.

umm, I'm feeling quite useless tonight and have no idea how to open this to read the script!! how do I do it?? hellllllppppp !!!

  • Comment number 6.

lol and feel free to call me Mrs Cockbottomley!! Seth's got nothing on me!

  • Comment number 7.

Found it!! Love it!! It's cool. I dunno, I think it would have been a good beginning for episode 2. I mean, we saw plenty of shots of George transforming throughout the rest of the show didnt we? Yeah, that was wicked, and informative. Nice one, Toby. And Barry.

  • Comment number 8.

Awww I love it when you give us scripts BH Production :-)

  • Comment number 9.

    Cool.
So I really liked it. I understand why it was wrong for the finished product but I also think it could have been interesting as an extra.
Vampire lore and ghost stories are just part of our culture in a weird way so having something like that could have helped me to connect more with the werewolf thing. As if weaving in werewolf stories helps make it more believable :s

Thanks that was really interesting. :)

I'm big on imagining tonal changes in my favourite shows. Like what would happen if BH was darker, more atmospheric, traditional supernatural roles were adhered to etc.. so I love reading the stuff that conflicts with the final and to us-original version.

  • Comment number 11.

wow that was really interesting thanks for that team but i think that the one you did use did work with the show better

  • Comment number 12.

    That was cool... but wrong.
The Bible says that Nebuchadnezzar made a gold statue of himself and told everyone to worship it which Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (or Shake the bed, Make the bed, And to bed we go- as we learned to remember it at sunday school, oh yes that's right)refused to do. He threw them into a furnace that was heated seven times hotter than usual, but they didn't burn and Nebuchadnezzar saw four people walking around in the furnace.
He then called them out and praised God and told everyone to worship their God instead.
    Then he promoted them.

Is there a verse that I'm not aware of? Or did they really use artistic licence on the Bible?

  • Comment number 13.

uh oh wiggle out of that one toby lol

  • Comment number 14.

Actually, that was rather good. Shame it was cut.
(sorry, am a bit useless for posting comments this weather, have college exams that are totally pwning me)

  • Comment number 15.

    O_O

I just posted on facebook saying that my night couldn't get any better. Barry you've made a lier out of me! *can't spell lier.. lyer... hmm*

This is awesome! Though I agree that the start that was actually used is better. I would have got bored of this one. What? No I don't have a short attention span! Ooh shiny....

  • Comment number 16.

Whoop! Whoop! Glad you like it. Can you believe Toby had that up his sleeve all this time? Naughty Whithouse. Don't worry, we'll sneak a look at his filing cabinet, see if he's got any more.

If you've got any ideas for alternative endings / openings / scenes then share them on here. For example, in episode four we think Bernie should have bitten Fleur at the end of the episode. Talk about a shock! What do you think? Great idea, huh? What do you mean 'no'? What do you mean 'it ruins the episode'? What do you mean 'stick to writing the blog and stop trying to write storylines'?

COME ON, WE'RE GIVING YOU TV GOLD HERE!

    (Ok, maybe it needs work.)

In other news, don't forget Annie's pivotal moments vid will be coming later in the week!

  • Comment number 17.

cieria- 'liar'. Well I am your beta reader afterall. ;)

I love the Bernie story! He needs to come back evil. Although I don't think Mitch would have turned him anyway but forgetting that lapse in character personality I do honestly believe that Bernie killed his mum pretty quickly afterwards. I mean he was left on his own with a wayward, confused mother. And she was annoying as heck so I would have killed her too.

  • Comment number 18.

lol production team what are you like

well Bernie did say he was hungry just before we left them to get on a train for god knows how long so I'm betting that he did bite her and yes super she was very annoying to

  • Comment number 19.

Wow that was brilliant thank you. I would've liked to have seen it at the beginning of Ep 2 and I'm sure it could've been made to work in some way. I like the religious references to George's condition especially as he's Jewish; makes it all the more significant somehow.

And I'm soooo glad that I'm not the only one who found Fleur incredibly annoying. My perfect ending to Ep 4 would've been her disappearing under the wheels of a train! I'm just trying to think of the perfect soundtrack to that.

  • Comment number 20.

"Take your Mama Out" by the Scissor Sisters perhaps.

  • Comment number 21.

    BAHAAHHHAA! :D Perfect!!

  • Comment number 22.

Super - Thankyou. :) I was trying to work it out all night. *headdesk* Forgetting how to spell random words is fun. Though it was late at night. ;)

  • Comment number 23.

Cieria dont worry Im like that - especially with the kids when I'm teaching them to spell words after a while you start thinking...hmm is that really a word?! I was doing it with "my" the other day I couldnt for the life of me spell it or use it in a sentence lol and I spent so long messing about with different fonts for "being human" on one of my videos that i started to question whether Id spelt Being right or if was even actally a word...hmm

ahh alternate endings - dont ask me things like that ill be here all night!

so im not gonna get to into it...honest but just say that no bernie shouldnt have bitten fleur that would have been...odd lol and no not right btu dont get me started on the bernie story either...

  • Comment number 24.

Ok just to throw a couple out there what if episode 5 ended differently - what iflauren hadnt died? or if annie had opened the door -do we reckon if shed gone through she could have got back to help mitchell or not? or what if gilbert hadnt gone through his in ep 3? or what if mitchell had "saved" becca?

hmm there are too many to think of...

  • Comment number 25.

hehe 'Take Your Mama Out'- brilliant!

Maybe George couldn't kill Herrick and Herrick ended up some vampire/ werewolf hybrid thingy? whole 'nother level of evilness.

  • Comment number 26.

Oh eagle. Believe me I've got some good ones. I've spelt was wrong in the past. And tea. Ask me sometime and I'll open my typo folder (it's called something different on my computer but that's an in joke so you guys wouldn't get it.

  • Comment number 27.

Hi How do i get this weird lile script thing to open it jsut comes up in all coded stuff, Which i really cant read lol
    x

  • Comment number 28.

Emily, click the words "deleted script" at the end of the post. ;)

  • Comment number 29.

I'm thinking about what you said eagle. But honestly all of those things had to end up that way.
I think that it would have suited the Mitch character better if he had turned Becca rather than Bernie. But then again if it was realism (in a fictional supernatural tv show world) then Mitch would have legged it way before Bernie was ran over. But anyway...

Annie offers the most 'what ifs'. Say she knew that Owen killed her from the start (like Cieria's FF) how would she have turned out? In my mind I imagine she would be pretty angsty and cool. Say she had of gone through the door but returned in a different way..

    And Sethy... *sigh*

  • Comment number 30.

What if Josie hadn't been around or she hadn't offered herself to heal Mitchell?? Could have been bad, he wouldn't have been able to agree to meet Herrick, George wouldn't have been able to intervene, Nina wouldn't have been scratched and Herrick would still be around. Oooh dear. Or maybe if Mitchell HAD died then George and Annie would have gone in with their gay ninja guns blazing and... would they have won??

More importantly, would there even be a series 2? Oooh Josie, pivotal moment.

  • Comment number 31.

Oh yeah I agree completely that things had to go the way they did im just saying what if? although i dont agree about Becca/Bernie When Becca died he was just beginning to deal/have trouble with Lauren and didnt want her going the same way - as well as having a lot of trouble with himself and it was a big struggle so didnt want to put her through that but by the time Bernie was dying he had made the decision to go back to the vampires and was viewing them in a much more positive light so to him at that point it wasnt quite so bad and recruiting him was an option

  • Comment number 32.

Cock, remember Annie's what if the boys hadn't been able to see her. :P Started that bit today. :)

  • Comment number 33.

I know Cie! That holds a lot of promise. Being able to touch and be slightly noticed but not completely. Total ghost angst FTW. ;)

  • Comment number 34.

Hmm its Friday any chance of a new page? What do we think?

Cant believe I have to miss Russell Howard in June :-( the man's a genius...I'm watching the dvdvd sorry that wasn't just a random comment lol

  • Comment number 35.

i concur. russell howard is a very funny man, as is michael mcintyre. when are we going to get the "Annie's most pivotal moments" video???? Hope we get a new question, it might bring more people to the site.

  • Comment number 36.

    cant believe sperkii's actually gone!!!

  • Comment number 37.

she says she'll be back for series 2 dont worry :-)

  • Comment number 38.

i think this scene looks funny, but might not have fitted in with the feel of this episode.

  • Comment number 39.

does any one know when being human is back on?
