New to BH? Watch out, this post contains spoilers from series one...

Herrick famously (but not very flatteringly) once described Seth as... "an idiot".

Is this fair?  After all, in a lot of ways Seth's had it rough.  He was older than Mitchell, but he came much lower in the pecking order.  He'd known Herrick for longer than Mitchell, but they just didn't have that same spark.  And on top of all that he had to cover the day shift in the undertakers (*yawn* - boring).

Ok, I'm making that last bit up, but it is fairly safe to assume that Seth was a very frustrated, highly aggressive, overly-jealous ball of angsty Mancunian vampire, and a much more complicated man than first meets the eye.

So today we're going behind the scenes of everyone's favourite henchman, and asking... do you have sympathy for Seth?

  • Comment number 1.

Although I enjoyed Seth I didn't really have a lot of sympathy for him. I agree he obviously did come much lower down the pecking order to Mitchell despite being recruited before him but both Herrick and Mitchell had the charisma that he lacked.

Seth was often the "fool" in their world. For example when Mitchell confronts Herrick as to Lauren's whereabouts at the start of ep 4 we find it amusing that Seith is being held aloft by the throat and that neither Herrick nor Mitchell are bothered by his discomfort!

We can appreciate that Seth is jealous of Mitchell's status as his killing sprees are much more sophisticated than his own i.e. "getting that tramp in a doorway". But then maybe Seth just hasn't put the homework in as he knew nothing of the vampire history of Bristol. At the end of the day Seth is the thug elemnet of the group and maybe Herrick finds him useful for that reason.

    Am i the first?

  • Comment number 2.

I agree with Herrick...he's an idiot.....a bit Jacobs Creeky for me...but having said that I would love to see him back...we only saw him get staked, you never know some caring Vampire may have rushed him to hospitl. I hope so

  • Comment number 3.

    Hmmm. Weird question!
Seth's one of my favourite characters, and the show would definitely have been poorer without him. But I'm not sure that I have "sympathy" for him. After all he beat poor George up for no reason (aww). I think the character is basically there to provide a contrast to both Mitchell and Herrick (and to deliver some brilliant lines).

I've just realised that it's quite interesting that Mitchell only met George because of Seth. And George and Annie are the main thing keeping Mitchell away from the vampires. If only Herrick knew what Seth had started! He would probably have staked him himself...

  • Comment number 4.

Sorry, forgot to actually answer the question. No....no sympathy at all

  • Comment number 5.

I don't have much sympathy for him, but I think he's a great character, he makes me laugh so much and gets loads of the best lines!
would love to know more of his back history. I feel abit sorry for him now, with the "being usurped in Herrick's eyes by Mitchell" thing.
vampfan - indeed, if our heroes can get Mitchell to A & E after a Herrick seeing-to, I'm sure the same could be done for Mr Cockbottomley. Although Lauren did seem to have a better aim than Herrick!!

  • Comment number 6.

Love the Seth compilation by the way. Great use of Blue Monday :-)
and very interesting to hear Dylan's views on the character. And how cool is his coat in that interview?

  • Comment number 7.

yeah, was great to hear Dylan talking about Seth. Nice to hear him giving Seth's point of view.

  • Comment number 8.

I wasn't going to comment because of the DVD fiasco but then I felt really guilty for the fab blog team who, once again, have come up with a nice vid for us. I think Seth is the typical bullied-to-bully type. I do have a small amount of sympathy for the way he is treated by the others but I don't think it excuses his behaviour.

    Gilbert next? :-)

  • Comment number 9.

@ Comment 8: Thanks for the comments, BH Prod thinks you fans ROCK! *hugs* We do listen to all your comments. Gilbert is indeed on the list, but we do have a few other bits and pieces first...

  • Comment number 10.

I feel a bit sorry for Seth because he obviously craves the attention and status that Mitchell gets from Herrick. He tries to command respect, but it just doesn't happen because he's not that bright or quick witted. Like that queston he asks Annie about if she can walk from room to room, and George says that everyone can do that, it makes him sound stupid because of the way he phrased it. I get that impression that that kind of thing happens quite a lot and it frustrates him.
So, yeah I feel sorry for him a bit, but on the other hand he is a 'killing machine' so maybe he deserves what he gets.

  • Comment number 11.

Comment 9 - Yay, thanks BH Production :-) you rock too

  • Comment number 12.

Also BH Blog Team - if you think about it, it's only coz we've been so impressed with your stuff on here that we're annoyed about the lack of extras on the DVD. You raised the bar :-)

  • Comment number 13.

I think that it's hard to have sympathy for Seth. He wasn't that big a character and when we saw him he was mostly being an evil vampire - if a bit thick. Personally I fell in love with him in episode 5 when George and Annie run into him and he was all "Can you like pick up stuff and walk from one room to the other?" And then a little bit later he got staked.

Maybe if we'd seen a bit more of him and his character had developed a bit more then we might have had more sympathy for him. Though of course he is one of the bad guys so it would be hard to develop him as a character.

I think I would like to see him back if they had managed to get him to a hospital or something but it would have to be well done. It's one of those things that could be good or complete rubbish depending on how well it's done.

Sorry that was quite a long comment really. I'm in one of those rambling thoughtful moods.

  • Comment number 14.

aww seth :D he's awesome isn't he? he's such an idiot that we love him for it! dillan did a great job when playing him. once more aww seth lol

  • Comment number 15.

Mitchell_fan - you hit the nail on the head. We love Seth because he is an idiot!!

sperkii - yay!! Gilbert fun!! Cant wait!

  • Comment number 16.

I do love Seth, but I think there's only room for one vampire to be saved from a gruesome stake-y ending!
    *Mitchell love*
    sorry guys

  • Comment number 17.

brooksie (16) OK if you insist, Im with you

  • Comment number 18.

by the way, I won't be here later tonight as I have to be dragged away from the laptop, kicking and screaming, to do the boring things that I used to want to do before BH love took over my life!!

  • Comment number 19.

    vampfan lol!!
got to go to brownies now - no, I'm not young, I'm a leader! wonder if we could invent a being human interest badge??

  • Comment number 20.

Oh my god i could cry - waching dvds :-(

Sorry - Seth is a character ive been dyng to come up but I am in NO MOOD! I am seriously annoyed

Ok well i guess I should start on a good note:

Extended and deleted scenes - LOVE although the epiode 1 one eplains so much of the story and the characters I cant beleve it got cut although sperkiiidissagree about the gilbert one - they were right to cu that in my opinion - flows better without the dilogue i think.

    Everything else -RUINED!

Episode 1 opening -RUINED without supergrass
George in woods RUINED without arctic monkeys - seriously ruined not just me throwing a paddy it completely changes the tone and ood and just grrr - WHY!?!

Got so annoyed i switched to disc 2 after that scene - BIG MISTAKE the track change episode 4 opening - OH MY GOD I have never been so annoyed about a TV show - my favourite part of the whole series and its completely ruined - the music just isnt right its not drmatic in the right places - ive got so used to singing the "dont call the doctor" line after Mitchell says his bit and now?! now the musics just blah its just boring its just realy really naff! theres absolutelyo umph to that scene at all i know this is harsh but its absolutely rubbish now :-(

Ok Barry and blog people I know this isnt your fault and I still really appreciate everything you lot have done for us on here its made the show what it is but just please pass on our serious annoyance and how upset we are to whoever sabotaged the show we loved so much and were so passionate about :-(

It just isnt the same - the magic is over...

  • Comment number 21.

I had a feeling the DVD would cause a bit of tension. I haven't bought it so I don't know what the argument is. Changes in music to the actual finished eps?? Weird.

Anyway, Seth. He has my favourite lines.. (lost all enthusiasm for this post now actually..) *sigh*

  • Comment number 22.

right thats it im off - apologies barry and blog team you all do brilliat job but seriously?! grr oh just I cant even speak I just - WHY!? Its ruined - You re gonna have a lot of piracy on your hands im gonna youtube the originals and i will not be buying the next dvd...final straw - you have very passionate fans which means we will love the show to death and do everything in our power to make it do well but also means that we will come down on you like a tn of bricks when you do something this stupid - the show is ruined and i cant believe no one has even acknowledged our dissappointment when we have been so loyal to the show - i feel well and truly let down i really do and no ones even willing to explain why our favourite show has been sabotaged :-(

feel like ive been cheated - paid all this money for my favourite show and instead im stuck with this :-(

Bye everyone thanks for all the chats etc - good while it lasted

  • Comment number 23.

I love the vid of Seth!! It wasn't working earlier and I think I was so impatient to be first on here. But Dylan Brown has such a great take on the character of Seth - he completely gets him when he says that he has more of an urge to overpower rather than be in charge which is probably very true.

I would love to see more of these vids on some of the other characters but I have to say I'm really not fussed about the Bristolian canteen lady.

  • Comment number 24.

Ok maybe not enough of a sorry to beinghumanproducton - really think you guys are brilliant and thanks for the video even though as usual cant see it yet because its too new and busy but love the fact that you listened to us and took note of how much we loved seth...just a shame the people in charge of the dvd obviously wasnt bothered about our comments otherwise they wouldve realised that the music was one of our favourite things about the show and that the music was what made the show what it was and also would know our favourite scenes and not ruined them :-(

Anyway this wasnt meant to be another moan it was meant to be a thank you to mr p and beinghumanproduction - you guys really are brilliant and i hope me expressing my dissappointment hasnt annoyed you too much but it had to be said :-(

  • Comment number 25.

eagle, I did warn you about all of the above.

The blog team probably can't comment on it all, even if they want to. Even though I feel the same as you about the DVD, eagle, we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. I seriously doubt that our feedback is being ignored.

See comment 9, eagle, I mean we can't punish the blog team for something they (I think anyway) had nothing to do with.

To sum up: the DVD SUCKS and was a BIG mistake and has annoyed a lot of loyal fans. BUT we still love the blog team and they have played a massive part in keeping us all talking about the show in the first place.

eagle, I know you're upset, I am too. I hope someone who was responsible for the DVD decisions will do the decent thing and say something on here. But we can't blame the blog team and we're probably putting them on a downer too....

  • Comment number 26.

eagle, I was still writing mine when you posted comment 25. Yes, I agree

  • Comment number 27.

    I mean 24

  • Comment number 28.

I don't know why but I've just randomly remembered the policeman bit-part (''In that case, we're gonna need a different form..'', or whatever the exact wording was). Genius. Much, MUCH better than Nana.

  • Comment number 29.

Yeah sperkii sorry ive tried to apaologise to the blog team i know its not their fault THEY listened :-(

Im just really angry - Im really really skint and it wasnt exactly cheap and kinda feel cheated - I thought I was paying for something different to what i ended up with and I cant believe no ones even commented on our disappointment or explained but like you say perhaps they arent allowed to :-( and yes i agree - hopefully the person/people responsible will do the decent thing and apologize/explain I feel so stupid but ive never been so loyal to/passionate about a TV program and I loved it so much and I really feel like its ruined

But again - Sorry blog team and sorry Sperkii

  • Comment number 30.

I don't exactly feel sympathy for Seth because he did come across as a bit of a cruel, stupid idiot. But I do feel for him a bit having Mitchell turn up and totally take over. Imagine you worked for your boss for years then some newcomer turns up and gets promoted over you. You would be SO annoyed. I think Seth comes across as jealous/envious of Mitchell and I can imagine Herrick totally playing them off against each other. I'd love to see more of their backstory.
even if it's only as web only episodes/DVD extras.
One set just after WW1 that shows the fun/cool side of becoming a vampire and Mitchell just totally revelling in it. Then one set in the 60s where he's just becoming jaded and sick of that life.
So jealousy and envy have different roots/meanings and it was summed up as jealousy is wanting to hold on to what you've got (being possessive etc) and envy is wanting something you've not got. Therefore, Herrick is jealous of Mitchell because he's finally met his match, someone who's taken his "gift" (the gift of vampirism) and run with it and has a certain charisma/charm that even he lacks. Maybe he sees in Mitchell a younger version of himself and he doesn't want to lose that. I think there is a weird possessive co-dependency between them. I think he loves hanging out with Mitchell because he's in a different league to the other vampires. It's like the mid life crisis guy with his hot younger wife, lol, he doesn't want to lose Mitchell.
But Seth is envious of Mitchell. Again, he sees Mitchell as having this effortless charm/cool that just seems to have come naturally to him and that he can never have. He knows Mitchell doesn't see him as a equal and that he's replaced him in Herrick's affections and he's fascinated by him in that strange way people are when they're envious/jealous of someone. So he has total first wife syndrome.
And I still think Herrick would totally play them off against each other.

  • Comment number 31.

Sympathy for Seth, the creepy vamp that's been stalking my dreams and giving me nightmares... noooooooooo, none what so ever.

  • Comment number 32.

    jaynedoll, good points.

    singingtwit hahahaha

eagle, yes I know. I have NEVER even visited a fan site, let alone let my lie be taken over by one, before BH. And I have very little money too, so I do feel the same. Heehee, I don't need an apology from you and I'm glad we've all given BH Prod an apology. I was going to say 'and I'm glad we've all given BH Prod one' but I thought better of the phrasing lol

  • Comment number 33.

Sprek couldn't even watch the vid properly... just in case you know lol

  • Comment number 34.

Jaynedoll I think you're spot on with the mid-life crisis/first wife analogy ...such a complex relationship.

  • Comment number 35.

sperkii me neither - visting a fan site i mean this was all totally new to me and yeah its got a real sting to it.

Right Seth - sympathy yes and he has a habit of coming into my dreams too lol he seems quite a common one so hey i think we all have a bit of sub concious sympathy for him even if you all wont admit it!

Hes with Herrick for years doing his thing and having a good time then he gets traded in for a younger model and stuck with teh secretary job - think id be bitter too

although to be fair - seth is very much like the wife and mitchell the mistress lol - mtichells the cool sexy younger one whos a laugh and fun to be with but hes fickle he comes and goes as he pleases whereas seths safer - hes always there and herrick obviously trusts him more - he knows about the feeding room etc whereas he has to lie and pretend to mitchell

I dont think it was always like that though - think when Mitchell was waltzing about pulling girls with herrick poor seth was very much pushed out of the picture.

    Ahh poor seth lol

I cant watch the video either

  • Comment number 36.

Oh, I know what Annie said to Owen though....it had something to do with the Being Human DVD....lol

  • Comment number 37.

Shed loads of sympathy for Seth!

(Think TOO MUCH understanding for that Mitchell Character)!

Seth was refreshingly honest, what you saw is what you got along with some of the very best lines.

He was a character who went far too soon.

Lets not forget HE'S A VAMPIRE, and unlike Mitchell not whiney and hung up on all the politically correct idiosynchrasies of going around drinking peoples blood.

Surely in the case of Mitchell, to make out you're a decent kind of chap and then inadvertantly sink your teeth into the neck of the person you're meant to be having a date with, and then to self indulgently agonise about it afterwards is far more antisocial and deserving of criticism than anything Seth ever did?

He's just doing what's in his nature.

Mitchell even goes around Vampiring, (probably not a word), young children!

That's never going to end well is it?

    Bet Seth wouldnt do that!

    Doubt he even likes kids!

Sensing some major middle class snobbery and elitist prejudice here, (or did Seth's northern demeanor offend some of you softy southerners out there):p)

Yup he most likely came from the wrong side of the tracks, possibly a rough upbringing, maybe you wouldnt want to invite him to Mummy's garden party, or daddy's little Polo gathering, but if you were going to have a night out around the pubs and clubs he'd be more fun than Mitchell any Evening.

(Suspect Mitchell is more the wine and Tapas bar type anyway).

  • Comment number 38.

ha ha i actually agree with a lot of that but then you all know my feelings on the vampires :-S

wouldnt be quite that harsh on mitchell though - i kind of understand him and where hes coming from although that is based entirely on my theory so if that turns out to be wrong then I may have to seriously change my views on him...

But yeah as far as "proper" vampires go Seths not that bad - just a bit thick lol yeah i like the "wrong side of the tracks" thing - sounds about right :-)

Wow I do not like the music thats replaced johnny cash episode 6 :-( sorry just got to that bit - thing is its a good bit of music but its completely changed the tone and i do not like it - why mess with the winning formula?

  • Comment number 39.

cant believe they changed the dialogue in episode 6 grr i loved that bit as well grr everytime i get over one disappointment they throw another one at me...

  • Comment number 40.

ok theyve changed loads of this scene - its a different shot - jasons dialogues the same but the actings different and i like the one they picked for tv better :-( ok really gonna shut up now sorry but this is another one of my favourite scenes and i wish it would just stop changing!

  • Comment number 41.

surely they cant blame that on music rights though? using a different take? surely if they thought it was better they just would have used that one first time round!

i guess they could have cut the bad moon rising bit because of the legalities of it - although its not in the show its just him singing so surely? oh dear oh dear why cant i get over this its just a tv show - i keep telling myself lol

i just want my being human back :-( i want the show i loved not a new chopped about version

  • Comment number 42.

Brilliant Antsteer! D'ya know what i think I'd much rather go round the pubs and clubs with Seth I mean I love Mitchell but he'd probably want to be home by ten!

  • Comment number 43.

Lol oh now come on Mitchell's not that bad - Im kinda torn on him to be honest depending on whether or not my theory turns out to be true :-S but he is a bit of a bad boy as far as humans go even if not in comparison to other vampires lets not all start talking about him as if hes a bit of a wet blanket...

I have a new favourite Mitchell moment - but it got cut! The look he gives Bernie at the end of the "coolest of cool" deleted scene its so lovely lol

  • Comment number 44.

ANSTEER, 37, yes I totally agree with all your comments, particularly about Mitchell....but what the sodding hell has class got to do with it? Please let's not have a class war!...;-p

  • Comment number 45.

I wasn't keen on 'coolest of the cool' scene, the 'girlfriend/boyfriend' scene or the 'doggy style' scene (talking about the DVD extras for those who are confused). Glad they got cut. All the others should have been kept in though, as they were crucial to the characters and the story. Especially considering a couple of clumsy things slipped through the editing net, like the 'affair with Hitler' line.

  • Comment number 46.

I'm awaiting my DVD's with absolute terror now after what you lot have been saying!
and OI!! stop knocking Mitchell! as I remember he only told Fleur what he was able to do, it was her choice ultimately to turn Bernie into a vampire, so blame her.

  • Comment number 47.

eagle, did you see my comment 36? :-)

  • Comment number 48.

Brookesie, tbh, that was part of the thing that wound me up - Mitchell made sure he placed all the responsibility on Fleur, so there were no comebacks for himself. He'd have done them more of a favour if he'd left Fleur alone to grieve. Grrr.

  • Comment number 49.

maybe, but I suppose by that time he was really close to Bernie as well, so wanted to try and do something. Perhaps he really thought that what he was trying to do what was right - we've all agreed he's quite rubbish at being human sometimes. I think maybe when he meets Bernie at the station it starts to prey on his mind, what he's done perhaps. So maybe when he goes back to the vampires he's never really 100% for them.
I don't care anyway, I'd stick up for him if he was worse behaved than Mr Cockbottomley, he's so darn gorgeous!! Sorry!

  • Comment number 50.

I'm off now chaps anyway, so take care. maybe my dvd's will come tomorrow!

  • Comment number 51.

Cheerio, brookesie. Hmmm, he's pretty but he's immature (weird for such an old vamp)

  • Comment number 52.

Yes I sort of fell bad for him. But I did love everything that happened. But I felt that there was a bit of angst between Seth & Mitchell an old love affair? They seemed like a bitter broken up couple.

  • Comment number 53.

Good decision upping the posts to appease the very unhappy fans. It's not your fault about the DVD i realise Barry but still the extra effort is appreciated!!

But a comment/explanation on the blog about why the music is different and to say whether a better edition might be available later on... would be nice.

Ok Seth... I feel sorry for the fact that he's stupid and easily manipulated, but he gave in to the vampire monstrosity, to the aggressive, destructive urges that come with it.. got taken in by Herrick and is just a grinning, maniacal little goblin.

    Very entertaining. But not sympathetic.

  • Comment number 54.

Mitchell... brilliant vampire, but ultimately struggles with being human, well he has been a vamp for over 90 yrs, at least he's making an effort.

Anyway back to Seth... Bill Bailey said "America's like the bully of the world, going up to countries and saying 'give us your sweets or I'll smash your face in' and Britain leans round the back, shakes its fist, and goes 'yeeaahh.'
Now imagine it's Herrick rather than America and Seth rather than Britain. That's how I picture Seth, he had an over inflated sense of power because he had Herrick on his side. Herrick thinks very little of Seth calling him an idiot and generally making him the butt of jokes. You have to wonder why Herrick kept him so ill-informed...

    In summary:

    Sympathy? No.

    Pity? Bucket loads.

But no more Seth talk for me... I've only just got rid of the dreams/nightmares.

  • Comment number 55.

Omg, singingtwit, that Bill Bailey quote was the first thing I thought of when I saw the question! :-) I only didn't put it myself coz I thought I'd end up going off-topic again!

  • Comment number 56.

So glad it's not just me, thought you might think I was slightly weird putting that quote up.

  • Comment number 57.

Not at all, like I said, it actually was the first thing I thought of! :-)

  • Comment number 58.

lol, great minds and all that!

  • Comment number 59.

i think that Seth could come back. Just in like a one off, or something. He could have being staked close to his heart, but not in his heart, as it looked like the stake when throught the middle of his chest, not slightly to the right.
But i do feel sympathy for him, as he had it ruff and seems like the kind of dude that loved being Herrrick's No. 1 Man. And then Mitchell took his place. But he did take his anger out on everyone else.

  • Comment number 60.

    Hi guys,

Many of you have been commenting about music changes that feature on the official Being Human DVD. Many tracks are the same, but some have changed and you guys want to know why. We here at the BH Blog are always listening to your comments, and wanted to give you a response to all your queries. Therefore, we’ve spoken to the music department responsible for Being Human, and this is their response…

“The BBC have “blanket” agreements in place with the music industry. This means we can use pretty much any music we like for the BBC transmissions. We don’t need to individually seek the consent of the recording artists, songwriters or their record labels, publishers or management teams.

Any fees that are due are taken care of by an annual BBC payment to the music industry collecting societies.

However, there are no similar agreements to cover DVD’s, so we have to try and clear every song with the artists and their labels (ie, get their consent for the use of the music in the DVD). We also have to agree fees that we can afford to pay, and do this in time to hit the edit deadline with the DVD manufacturer.

Where either the consent wasn’t granted (or not granted in time for the deadline) or the fees involved were too high, we were forced to change the music. We tried to pick alternative commercial tracks where possible, but as the pictures were “locked”, getting a replacement commercial track that fitted over the top was very difficult. Where we couldn’t, we got a composer to score a replacement that would fit the pictures and keep the feel of the original. That is why you won’t recognise some of the music.

We couldn’t afford to keep all of the music (and we couldn’t get permission to use all of it), so we tried to pick the most important tracks and spend our time and efforts clearing them.”

So there you have it folks... We can assure you that no-one on the Being Human team wanted to change a thing, but rules are rules and not all of the music could be kept. However, with the vast majority of scenes kept exactly the same or as similar as possible, we hope you can still enjoy your BH DVDs and keep coming back to the blog for more juicy behind the scenes action.

    *fan love*

    The BH Team

  • Comment number 61.

BH Team.....We knew you were listening... don't know about the others but from me, that is a big fat FORGIVEN

  • Comment number 62.

BH Team, thank you very much for giving us this explanation.

Though most of us had worked out that it was to do with copyright (interesting to hear how that works actually, thanks), I think the thing which bugged us was that we weren't expecting it and, with all due respect (which is a lot), the music which was composed/chosen in the place of the ones used in the broadcast version DIDN'T have the same tone at all and really DID affect the scenes we loved.

Also, I wonder what the excuse was for the lack of special features?

I am very grateful to the blog team - you are fab and bring us a lot of cool stuff - and I'm sorry that we have ranted to you on here, as it was not aimed at you. I, as I'm sure most will, massively appreciate that you took the time to answer us on this, as the DVD disaster was not your doing.

I'm afraid it doesn't change my feelings about the DVD though. It's a shame really because it will encourage piracy and illegal downloads, I'm afraid to say.

Anyway, I'm not going to say anything else about it (except perhaps in response to fellow bloggers - I'm sure eagle will have something to say!) because what's done is done. I have sold my copy of the DVD on Ebay and won't be chancing purchasing Series 2, as I simply cannot afford to spend the little money I have (which should be for essentials), only to be so bitterly disappointed again.

I am very sorry that I feel that way because I really, really didn't want to and I wanted to give as much support as possible to the show.

But BH Prod, you're still ace, and no doubt we will all still credit your hard work by continuing to contribute to discussions.

  • Comment number 63.

I appreciate the explanation BUT personally I would rather have waited a bit longer for the DVD and had something that was true to the TV series. They've changed the music for several of my favourite scenes and even used different dialogue/shots. I'm sorry but I'm not aware of any other TV show that's done this with a DVD release so I am a bit disappointed. It just feels like they rushed the DVD out to cash in on the popularity of the show. Surely when the show was being made/aired they were aware it would be coming out on DVD and they could have got the music clearance sorted out in time.

jaynedoll, I do agree completely. But what can anyone do now? I think they get the message, as I'm sure our views have been passed on by the blog team. If they don't get the message they'll end up losing the fans which 'made them' in the first place.

We can always lodge complaints with the BBC (can do that online) if we feel so inclined but I am really starting to feel sorry for the poor blog team.

(Btw, jaynedoll, I do realise I am about the worst for ranting on here or going off-topic, so I don't mean to sound hypocritical!)

On a lighter (although a bit off-topic - see? there I go again) note, I was trying to avoid doing the work for my dull essay and discovered that those black full eye contact lenses are reeeeeally expensive online. Although noone should actually get any sort of contact lense without seeking advice from an optician, even if they can afford it.

  • Comment number 67.

oooh - Mitchell eyes! I thought they did it with CGI! what a twit!

  • Comment number 68.

Well, maybe they do, I have no idea which is cheapest!

  • Comment number 69.

Ooh and (I'm so sorry, it's off-topic completely this time!) I now have all the freeview channels (instead of only 6), thanks to digital switchover, hurrah!

  • Comment number 70.

    Right, so, Seth then....

  • Comment number 71.

Thankyou for the explanation BH team. Though I'm still upset about the music changes it's nice to get an explanation. You're forgiven. :)

Personally I'm going to watch the episodes a few times over and get used to the new music. I think I could mostly get used to it to be fair.

Thanks again for the explanation. You're great. :)

  • Comment number 72.

we are lucky we've always had all the freeview channels not everywhere around us does tho, even tho we're in London

  • Comment number 73.

House of Elliott was on earlier :-) arrgh, off-topic again, sorry.

    Right, Seth.....

  • Comment number 74.

all the old poldark's were on a while back! and Tenko. freeview only shows yesterday channel til 6pm tho

  • Comment number 75.

I'll be back later, got to take kids to choir. ttfn
by the way, superOchre has been kidnapped by Edward Cullen.

  • Comment number 76.

Yes, I know :-) I find it very amusing :-)

  • Comment number 77.

yeah he's forcing me to listen to classical music and re-read Wuthering Heights inbetween calling me his spider monkey. It's hell. I've escaped for 5 minutes whilst he goes eat a cow. I wonder if this means that he's finally slept with and killed Bella!

Thanks for the reply BH team. I stay loyal probably because I never bought the DVD in the first place and I don't really care either way...

    "What the c is that?!"

Oh it's Mitchell coming into save me. Tbh I don't think he stands a chance against Ed, bless him.

  • Comment number 78.

Are you laughing at my fickle obsessions sperkii?????

    Good, so am I. :D

  • Comment number 79.

Completely not fussed about the music thing. The channel 4 show As If never even made it to DVD because of the battles over the music rights, and I've been lamenting over it for years. We should probably just consider ourselves lucky that we got the BH DVD at all..

FAR MORE IMPORTANTLY: YAY SETH!!! You have no idea how much I squealed through that, thank you so so so much :D I should say something constructive but I'm too excited (common problem with this blog), and where is super_ochre when you need her?? There's a Seth video and I don't have another Seth fangirl to gush with, boo!

  • Comment number 80.

  • Comment number 81.

I've never really understood the Mitch thing fully.
But Sethy I get. So don't worry brown I'm here.
He has the best lines, the most understandable character (weird yes).
If anyone is going to grab me from the non-fanged mouth of Ed it will be Seth. He's just too cool.

  • Comment number 82.

cool thanks brown. Wonder if anyone filmed it.

  • Comment number 83.

oh just thought of another thread for the forum...
Angel, Mitchell, Edward Cullen, Seth, Lauren, Canteen Lady, Herrick, Lestat... who would win in a fight?? Oh there's an off topic fic that I just have to write.

  • Comment number 84.

    78 - super - yes I am :-)

    79 - brownstudies - I loved As If!

83 - super - I reckon Lestat, although maybe Edward after reading Midnight Sun....

  • Comment number 85.

I agree. It's close between Ed and Lestat.

    Angel and Mitch?

  • Comment number 86.

Whoop yay Seth. Bless his cottons. I find him pretty sexy, maybe not his character, but definitely his looks & I love his lines in the show. Bring him back!!!!!

He reminds me of a Uriah Heep type of character, all that cloying insincere sychophantic obsequiousness to Herrick & Mitchell masking his bitterness & resentment & his hunger for power & violence
I think hes suffereing from angry little man syndrome. Even though he doesn't really like either of them, he regards them both as more important & with more authority than him & he is desperate for their approval & acknowledgement.

All he needs is a few years therapy & the ability to let go & stop worrying about Mitch & Herrick and he'd probably be a decent chap, he might even turn out to be cool.

  • Comment number 87.

He just needs a little confidence boost & the love of a good woman! ;)

  • Comment number 88.

Erm... he IS cool. And I don't want him to be decent.
I want him back, they have to bring him back, I've said it all along-he did not die.

  • Comment number 89.

    or a very bad one?

  • Comment number 90.

A woman?? What, no! Seth is the leader of uber coolness not romance.

  • Comment number 91.

Thanks BHP for clarifying. That was pretty much the explanation I expected...

I will still live in the hope that the original music can be reinstated on a later DVD...

If the series runs for 2 or 3 more seasons then there'd be a boxset right? Hopefully with more special features. And hopefully if the shows profile goes up the artists might think twice..

Definitely gonna write to Elvis COstello!!!

Dunno what to do about Johnny Cash as that was really important to me.. Garrrr.

  • Comment number 92.

oh and i know it's the music companies more than the artists so i'll write to them too!

In fact i think i'll start a thread on the forum with all the addresses fans can write to request musicians/companies give permission!!

  • Comment number 93.

85 - super - tough one, I reckon Angel though, purely coz (as far as we know) he's had a lot more experience with fighting techniques

  • Comment number 94.

lol ha ha i love the bill bailey quote - loved it in his show and love it in relation to herrick and seth - extremely apt!

Thank you BeingHumanProduction for giving us an explaniation and I really do appreciate it. I feel very guilty that we had to take out our disappointment and anger on you guys as you really do give us loads of great stuff here on the blog and please dont think we dont appreciate it because we really do! Im still bitterly disappointed and do believe that we should have been at least warned - and although they said they tried to keep the original tone/effect etc that really didnt happen and i still feel that it seems like a completely different show - and also stand by what i said yesterday that it seems as though the dvd was rushed out as quickly as possible so as to cash in before people forgot about it whereas i think it would have much better and more appreciated had they took pride in the dvd and time had been spent on trying to get the rights to the music as well as producing a few more special features - it seemed like so much time and effort went into the show making everything perfect and everyone involved seemed to have such pride in the end result which didnt come across in the dvd at all.

But still - I really appreciate the explanation as does everyone else im sure and you guys are completely forgiven although people in charge of the dvd - still not! Sorry.

*Blog team love back though :-)*

As for Seth - I think hes just really easily led and incredibly cowardly - it was much easier for him to have herrick as a friend rather than enemy

Anyway BH thanks ever so much and sorry for all my outbursts :-(

  • Comment number 95.

91 - bex - perhaps that could be an Annie storyline...crossing over to get music rights from dead artists? lol

  • Comment number 96.

oh and have sweet talked someone into letting me use his mac for the weekend and i dont need permission from music companies! so im gonna attempt to re edit my own episode 4 :-D which has eased the dissappointent slightly...

  • Comment number 97.

eagle, I'm with you - *blog team love*, *'talk to the hand' DVD team* lol

  • Comment number 98.

    Wow! Pure dedication eagle. Impressive.
Angel would so win over Mitch. Mitch can't actually 'do' anything can he?

OK... if a vamp was going to protect you in a fight or you were the vamp in the fight who would you be/choose?

And for anyone who understands.... George or Jacob?

  • Comment number 99.

83 - Can i opt for Carlisle Cullen (only seen the film), seems like he would be cool, calm and collected in a fight......plus a very fanciable older man!

  • Comment number 100.

If somebody else has come up with this, sorry but have just had chance to read quite a bit of this page.

Seth...was a favorite of Herricks and pushed into second place by Mitchell (someone else's suggestion..not mine)

Seth's Blog... A fan's favourite and pushed into second place by a dodgy DVD.

    Poor Seth, ironic
