With a new video for their track 'Siren' having just hit the interwebs, we thought it would be perfect timing to catch up with Derry four-piece electro-rock outfit Wylding to discover all kinds of factoids about the band in this week's edition of The Making Of:
(Glenn Rosborough) The first record i bought was Lenny Kravitz'Greatest Hits'.
(Phil Curran) The one gig that made me want to be in a band was Such As in the Nucleus.
(Jilly St John) One musician that inspired me to start performing? Gawd there have been so many over the years, bearing in mind I witnessed the 80's. I love watching live shows in general especially Prince, Queen, Black Sabbath, Nirvana to name a couple, but I have to say I've always been drawn to strong female figures from a young age. Artists like Kate Bush, Patti Smith, Blondie, Madonna, and in my late teens No Doubt, Juliette Lewis. My list is endless. Performance has always just been there since I could walk and string a sentence together.
Having signed to the ever-helpful Smalltown America, Our Krypton Son has finally been able to unleash his debut album. We say his, as OKS is essentially a vehicle for Chris McConaghy, former guitarist with Derry garage-pop loons Red Organ Serpent Sound. But far from wasting time licking his wounds after the bands deal with Mercury didn't lead to the type of success that seemed inevitable back in 2004, Chris is making the type of music he loves, on his own terms. Any listeners reap the rewards. But which bands and artistes can claim responsibility for the type of music Chris finds himself making? Lets discuss The Making Of....Our Krypton Son
The first record I ever bought was, embarassingly, 'America's Least Wanted' by Ugly Kid Joe. I bought it on cassette in 'Soundsaround' that used to be in Derry. Nightmare. I was only 12 or so though.
We've made a real point of how Northern Irish bands have an impressive work ethic these days - they're willing to tour, produce videos, do press and generally make sure their name and music is out there. Step forward the perfect example - Window Seats. Last night, the kings of the poppy riff played the last date of their Irish tour, about to take hold of England and Scotland, are celebrating another notable release and video for 'Juliette's Letter'. Taking time from a busy schedule then, is one Jude McCaffrey, singer and vocalist. Over to you Jude, explain what makes you lot tick....
The first record I bought was Presidents of the United States' self titled album. It's still lethal! The first single I bought was 'The Bartman' and it hasn't aged so well. The last record I got was ElbowDead in the Boot.

They play a Hallowe'en special (at Auntie Annies on Wed 31st) but, it you're Mental Deficiency, every day is a bit Hallowe'en. Constantly costumed, always unpredictable and reliably odd, this particular five piece don't need a calendar to...
...It's not been that long since Here Comes the Landed Gentry called it a day in 2010, it just feels like ages cause we've missed them so much. The good news is these whiskey drinkin', good time giving Derry loons are back for a couple of reunion shows and all for a very good cause. They'll play Sandinos, Derry on Thursday Oct 18th with a second, final show at The Cellar Bar, Draperstown on Sat 20th..
