Bantum Legion album cover

This week’s That New Band Smell features some ridiculously talented new acts - the kind of bands that make you want to get up off your behind and start a record label just so you can share them with the world. I’m Niamh NewNoise and here are some of songs that’ve been on repeat in my stereo this month, I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I do.

September Girls - Green Eyed

First up are the September Girls who describe themselves as sounds from a transistor radio abandoned in an old cinema. They’re unique in the fact that they’re an all female band with an awesome drummer on board called Sarah Grimes. Two of the members, Paula and Caoimhe, used to be in the Chalets and then Talulah Does the Hula, so they’ve been making music together for a few years. They recently released 'Green Eyed' (below) on 7” via Soft Power Records who are based in Glasgow and they’ve just joined DIY label Matinee Recordings in the States. Their stuff kind of reminds me of the Breeders and they’re currently working on their debut album and that will be available sometime next year.

Well hello there, Phil Taggart here! God it must be what? A month since the last time we spoke. You're looking great, you working out? Well enough of the small talk, lets get down to the new music. Kyle Marno - I See You Dancing
Spine chilling sedate electro from the 19 year old producer from Belfast. The vocal on this is going to haunt you for days!

Fat Actress

It's time to ramp it up to 11 again on ATL with another nice and noisy new band smell with Carrie Davenport. Seeing as it's nearly halloween, it's the perfect time to don the necro face paint, carve some pumpkins and make it metal!

Stand With Heretics - Guttersnipe
Wearing their love of Pantera proudly on their sleeves, Stand With Heretics will definitely appeal to fans of the greatly missed Dimebag and his cohorts! They're from Downpatrick rock city - well it is home of NI rock legends the Answer so they're clearly putting something in the water to keep the locals brewing up some good old fashioned rock tunes.

Espial - Key of Solomon
With ex-members from Belfast bands These Are The Clouds and Kiriath, these guys fuse a melodic mix of black metal, prog and post rock into epically proportioned tunes. They're heavily instrumental but looking for vocalists to work with in future which could be a great addition to their sound. If you search their name online you'll find a scottish folk band, so to make sure you find the right Espial, go to
