Jess went on a school exchange to France, to her twin town. She says j’ai fait un échange scolaire en France... dans notre ville jumelle.

She went during her Easter holiday, for a week. She says pendant les vacances de Pâques... pendant une semaine.

How did Jess travel, and what did she think of it?

Jess travelled by plane from Edinburgh to Grenoble and then by coach. She says le voyage pour y arriver était très long... car nous avons dû prendre l’avion d’Edimbourg jusqu’à Grenoble et après le car.

Jess liked it because she had fun with her friends and they chatted and played cards. She says cependant je l’ai aimé parce que je me suis bien amusée avec mes amis et nous avons bavardé et joué aux jeux de cartes ensemble.

Did Jess get on well with her penfriend? Why? What examples does she give?

Yes, Jess got on well with her penfriend. She says je me suis bien entendue avec elle.

Jess says that her penfriend was very nice and friendly. She made the effort to speak slowly, so she could understand her quite easily. She says selon moi, elle était vraiment gentille et très aimable. En plus elle a fait un grand effort pour parler lentement, donc je pouvais la comprendre assez facilement.

How was the French school different to her own school? (there are six things to identify).

Pupils don't wear uniform. She says les élèves ne portaient pas d’uniforme.

Pupils have a lot more freedom. She says ils avaient beaucoup plus de liberté.

Most pupils eat in the canteen. She says la plupart des élèves mangeaient à la cantine.

Teachers are a lot more strict. She says aussi, les profs étaient très sévères.

Pupils have to take a lot of notes in lessons. She says il me semblait que les élèves devaient prendre beaucoup de notes en classe.

School finished at 5pm. She saysl’école finissait à cinq heures.

What activities did Jess do in the town? Give as much detail as you can, there are three things to identify.

She went on a guided tour of the town (with fascinating museums, modern art gallery and an old church). She says un jour nous avons fait une visite guidée de la centre ville (où il y a des musées fascinants, une galerie d’art moderne et une vieille église).

She went for a long walk in the hills (with incredible views). She says un autre jour nous avons fait une longue randonnée dans les collines (avec des vues incroyabales).

She also visited a chocolate factory (saw how chocolate was made and tasted it). She says la chose qui m’a plû la plus, c’était la visite de la chocolaterie (où nous avons vu la fabrication du chocolat et même eu l’occasion de le goûter).

What does she hope will happen this summer and why?

Jess hopes that her penfriend will come and visit/stay with her this summer because she wants to show her her village and area. She says j’espère que ma correspondante va me rendre visite cet été... parce que je voudrais lui montrer mon village et ma région.

What activites would Jess like to do with her penfriend when she visits?

She would like to take her canoeing in the river and mountain biking in the forest. She says j’aimerais faire du canoe-kayak avec elle dans la rivière et du VTT dans la forêt.
