The nature and co-ordinates of roots can be determined using the discriminant and solving polynomials.

We solve polynomials algebraically in order to determine the roots - where a curve cuts the \(x\)-axis.

A root of a polynomial function, \(f(x)\), is a value for \(x\) for which \(f(x) = 0\).

We can be asked to solve polynomial expressions by the following methods:

- Solve \(f(x) = 0\)
- Find the roots of \(f(x)\)
- Find where \(f(x)\) cuts the \(x\)-axis
