The nervous system enables humans to react to their surroundings and to coordinate their behaviour. It comprises millions of neurones and uses electrical impulses to communicate very quickly.
What is included in the central nervous system (CNS)?
Spinal cord and all neurons in the body
Brain and all neurons in the body
Brain and spinal cord
What is the generalised order during a nervous response?
Receptor → stimulus → coordinator → effector → response
Response → receptor → coordinator → effector → stimulus
Stimulus → receptor → coordinator → effector → response
What are effectors?
Muscles and glands
Muscles and nerves
What is a stimulus?
A change in the environment that is detected by effectors
A change in the environment that is detected by receptors
A response to a change in the environment
What do converging neural pathways involve?
Impulses from one neuron split to travel along several neurons
Neurons later in the pathway can linking with earlier neurons
Impulses from several neurons coming together into one neuron
