Causes of female infertility

  • Ovaries don’t produce eggs.
  • Blocked/twisted oviducts (maybe due to infection).
  • Complication from a previous STI (for example, chlamydia)
  • Uterus lining not developing enough to allow embryo implantation.
  • Vagina too hostile to allow sperm to enter (e.g. too acidic).

Causes of male infertility

  • Not enough sperm produced.
  • Non-healthy sperm produced (can be due to smoking or drinking alcohol to excess).
  • Impotence.
