Area of quadrilaterals

To calculate the area of quadrilaterals, we need to know two of the basic area formulae.

Area\,of\,a\,rectangle = length \times breadth

Area\,of\,a\,triangle = \frac{1}{2} \times base \times height

Question

Calculate the area of the rectangle shown below.

Diagram of a 7cm x 5cm rectangle

A = l \times b

= 7 \times 5

= 35c{m^2}

Question

Calculate the area of the triangle shown below.

Diagram of a 6cm x 8cm right-angled triangle

A = \frac{1}{2}bh

= \frac{1}{2} \times 8 \times 6

= \frac{1}{2} \times 48

= 24c{m^2}
