Children demonstrate how to cook pancakes and make pancake fillings. We see the ingredients and learn how the pancakes are made. The pupils also make apple sauce and chive fillings and discuss their preferences. We see how different areas of Germany have different names for pancakes. The commentary is in German and English.

This clip could be used to introduce German food and cooking vocabulary. Students could discuss their food preferences using the words and phrases from the clip: 'ich mag ... ', 'ich mag … nicht', '... schmeckt mir gut', '... schmeckt mir nicht so gut'.

Do the students know any other German dishes and drinks? Have they tried them? Students could comment in German.

Students could also write down the words introduced in the captions and use them to write their own recipe for pancakes with apple sauce. Students could look at the different German terms for pancakes in the North and the South of Germany. What do they literally mean in English?
