Students could investigate historical data to show how climates are changing. Examples could include the Keeling Curve, global temperature and CO2 ppm values from the Vostok ice core. They should consider the validity of such evidence after viewing the documentary called 'An Inconvenient Truth'. Students can subsequently plot, describe, analyse, interpret and evaluate climatic data. In addition, students should research and model a 3°c potential temperature increase over the next century. They could exemplify the role of industry, transport, farming and deforestation in creating greenhouse gases, looking in particular at the short-term effects (eg storm incidence) versus longer-term effects (eg rising sea-levels). Use hazard maps, GIS and satellite technology to show how this will impact on Wales and the rest of the UK. In groups, compare the situation in Wales with that of an LEDC, such as Bangladesh, particularly in respect to the use of technology. Investigate if there are any positive economic and environmental aspects of such change, eg tourism, agriculture and industry.
