Two teenagers won a competition to develop an app. They designed Pitch Pals, which helps young children tune their stringed instruments. The process took nearly a year and they had to conduct research, design appealing characters for their target audience and add extra detail. They programmed the app using C++ language. The finished app tells the user whether their instrument is playing the note too high, too low or just right.

Pupils could be asked to design an app that could help with a school lesson. Ideas could include a spelling app, an app to help with a foreign language or an app to help in PE. Present their ideas back to the class and discuss ideas for improvement.
