This clip would provide a good introduction to a study of Ireland in or from the mid-nineteenth century. As an exercise to enhance listening skills, pupils could observe the full section of the clip without notes. On a second viewing, pupils could be given focus questions of ‘who, what, where, why and how’ on a template as a prompt. Pupils could then work in a pair to recall the content and make suggestions as to which questions are best answered by the narrated extracts.
