Aberdeen sea front has suffered in the past from disparate developments. Current plans for expansion of facilities are now organised under one council masterplan. The plan aims to knit existing facilites together as well as attract new residents and visitors to the area. The plan must balance human demands with preservation of the coastline.

Use as a stimulus for students to work on their own master plans or overall plans for a Scottish tourism area. Consider different groups that development might attract or put off, and the economic, social and environmental impacts. Discuss short and long term impacts and how development will respond to changes in future need and conditions. Use CAD or image manipulating software to reflect proposed changes to the landscape and transport routes.
