This clip deals with the land settlement in the Treaty of Versailles, including Alsace-Lorraine, the Saar, demilitarisation of the Rhineland and the creation of eight new countries in the East with democratic governments, but leaving Poland and Czechoslovakia with German speaking minorities. The reduction in Germany's army and navy and abolition of German air force, war guilt clause, reparations, removal of colonies and the creation of the League of Nations are also covered.

The clip allows students to find out information on the main clauses of the Treaty of Versailles. You could ask them to consider possible problems arising out of the Treaty eg what did the Germans resent (for example, lack of self-determination for German speakers, loss of land, reduction in armed forces, foced acceptance of war guilt).
