Former slaves made a considerable contribution to the abolition movement. Several wrote and published their personal accounts of slavery. One of the best known authors was Olaudah Equiano, who spent five years touring Britain, telling his stories at abolitionist meetings.
Students could look further into the case studies and read the accounts covered. 'The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano' and extracts from Robert Wedderburn’s 'The Horrors of Slavery' can be found online.
