Divide the class into groups that put together manifestos and political pamphlets or podcasts for both sides of the Civil War. They should balance this by creating similar media that campaigns against each side. At the end have students vote on which side they would choose. Alternatively, present the class with cards that list a range of people from different social and economic groups from the time and challenge them to sort them according to which side they would support.
