Pupils practise cycling in the school playground before progressing to quiet, local roads. They learn to cycle in the safest road position - not too close to the gutter or too far out in the road. They also find out how to signal safely, check for traffic, identify road hazards such as speed bumps, and the importance of the 'lifesaver look'.
This clip could be used as a stimulus for discussion about ways to stay safe on bikes as well as basic road safety. Children could produce a road safety poster for younger children. Children could discuss the importance of road safety and role-play scenarios exploring outcomes for unsafe behaviour.
