Jimmy Doherty takes a tour around a raspberry farm investigating how the 17 million raspberries grown per year get from the plant to the supermarket in on piece. Raspberries attract many bugs and to reduce the use of pesticides the farm are using new technology to blow hot air through the raspberry bushes to blow out and kill the bugs. He then helps hand pick the raspberries which are only touched once before being bought by consumers.
Could be used to evaluate the impact of chemicals, such as pesticides, on commercial food products and how science is being used to reduce reliance on artificial chemicals. The clip could be used as part of a focus on sustainable approaches to food production.
