A weather presenter discusses temperature change over the course of a day. Using the map, the presenter shows how the temperature will fall to below zero over the course of the night. She then poses a question and thinking time is given to work out the answer.
This clip could be used as part of a lesson introducing pupils to an extended number line. The lesson could be differentiated, with lower ability pupils given a pre-drawn number line with some or all numbers already placed on it, and higher ability pupils asked to draw their own. As pupils watch the clip, they can be asked to mark on their number lines each temperature that they see. At the end, pupils can check with a partner to see if they missed any or did anything wrong. (The pairings could also be decided strategically beforehand, for the sake of differentiation.)
