Batteries come in many different shapes and sizes and we use them to make many different appliances work. Batteries can be put together to provide more power. Tiny batteries are used for watches, while bigger batteries are used for remote controllers, toys, fairy lights and torches.

Can be used to show electrical safety. The teacher could talk with the children about dangerous and less dangerous sources of electricity - emphasising that batteries are a safe source of electricity. Useful as a way to engage children in identifying all the different ranges of household items that use batteries in all shapes and sizes. The children could then go on a hunt around the school identifying where batteries are used.
