Students could explore the impact of the end of coal mining in south Wales and use a variety of sources to research changing land use, including historical and OS maps and satellite images. They could review and evaluate regeneration policies and strategies from local, UK and EU governments, which could lead into a decision making exercise of action planning for regeneration. There are opportunities for presentations, role play, debate and reports using ICT. Could be part of a unit on economic change in south Wales.
