Respiration is described as being similar to burning in that oxygen is combined with glucose to release energy. The products and reactants are shown. Plant respiration is also described and the photosynthesis equation shown. Sugar made mainly in leaves is carried to all parts of the plant which respire in phloem.

Ideas clearly show the link between photosynthesis and respiration. Test leaves for the presence of starch to help prove that photosynthesis has occurred. Dip the leaf in boiling water to remove the waterproof covering. Then leave the leaf in ethanol in a water-bath to remove the chlorophyll. Rinse in water. Add iodine to the leaf, and observe if the blue-black colour is detected.
