Two young reporters, Holly Foskett and Aaron Crossey, go behind the scenes of the Northern Ireland Assembly to find out how the Irish political system works. They speak to BBC journalists, Mark Devenport and Jim Fitzpatrick, about reporting from Stormont, and to MLAs, Basil McCrea and Margaret Ritchie, about the importance of politics for young people in Ireland.
Ask pupils what a political system is. Give them a simplified copy of the UK's political system. As they watch the clip, ask students to note down similarities and differences between the UK and Irish system of government. Ask the students to research the different systems of government across the nations of the UK. Have regional parliaments been a success? How do they think England could benefit from a devolved assembly?
