Fashion became far-out in the 1960s. Young people wanted to break away from their conservatively dressed parents. Mary Quant led the revolution in female fashion, with her new wave designs, and shorter and shorter miniskirts, while boys abandoned the uniform of the old National Service days to join the mods and the rockers.
This clip could lead to further discussion about fashion designers such as Mary Quant and how parents disapproved of new items such as the mini skirt. Pupils could be asked whether their parents disagree with their fashion. They could research further about the Mods and the Rockers or design their own outfits.
