A look at how protons, neutrons and electrons make up atoms. We are told what mass and atomic numbers are, and how they tell us the number of subatomic particles that are present in atoms.

This clip could be used as an introduction to explain how protons, neutrons and electrons make up atoms. After watching it, students could explain in their own words what they have learned using different examples from the Periodic Table.
Consolidate understanding of the link between the number of protons and the atomic number, between protons and neutrons and the mass number and the balance of protons and electrons that results in atoms being neutral.
Students could use beads, sweets, balls or themselves to build models of the positions of particles in the atoms of different elements.
