Children demonstrate how to cook pancakes and make pancake fillings. We see the ingredients and learn how the pancakes are made. The pupils also make apple sauce and chive fillings and discuss their preferences. We see how different areas of Germany have different names for pancakes. The commentary is in German and English.

Can be used to introduce German food and cooking vocabulary. The children could discuss their food preferences using the words and phrases from the clip: 'ich mag ... ', 'ich mag … nicht', '... schmeckt mir gut', '... schmeckt mir nicht so gut'. Do the pupils know any other German dishes and drinks? Have they tried them? Ask them to comment on them in German.
Ask the children to listen out for words which sound similar to English words and mean the same, eg. 'Milch', 'Öl', 'Äpfel', 'Liter' and other words which sound completely different, eg 'Schnittlauch'. They can then write them down in two groups: similar and different.
