The differences between thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics are explained using examples of jewellery made from thermosetting plastic. Thermosetting plastics cannot be remoulded whereas thermoplastics can be remoulded any number of times. We see the injection moulding process and learn about other moulding methods, such as blow moulding and vacuum forming.
Students could make notes on the different types of plastic forming, before coming up with some plastic product designs. They should explain which method of forming they would use and why they think that is best suited to their product. They could use text, diagrams and miniature models to explain their thinking.
