Adam (a teenage boy with severe learning difficulties) and Ellie (an older teenage girl with learning difficulties) are walking together in their local park. They are holding hands. They arrive at a bench and sit down. Ellie moves towards Adam until she is pressed up against him and she puts her arms around him. She starts moving her hand down the front of his body until it reaches his crotch. Adam looks shocked. A question mark appears. The video replays. During the replay, when Ellie moves her hand towards Adam's crotch a Widgit 'stop' symbol appears. Adam moves away from Ellie and raises his hand assertively. A speech bubble appears with the Widgit 'stop' symbol in it.
This clip could be used to support PSHE learning in relation to personal space, appropriate and inappropriate touch and feeling comfortable with your own personal limits. It encourages learners to say 'no' if they feel their personal space is being invaded or the integrity of their personal limit is being threatened. The widgit symbols can be used as pause-points by teachers to highlight key issues for discussion.
