A BBC News report on the London suicide bombs of 7 July, 2005 ( 7/7), focussing on the selfless actions of a Cardiff doctor who helped survivors following the bus bomb. Includes footage of the destruction and an interview with a survivor.
The 7/7 bombing clip can be used by the students to explore the role and the responsibility of the media in combatting terrorism. In what ways does the clip contrast the actions of the doctor with those of the terrorists? What causes people to become extremist? What is it about others that cause them to behave selflessly towards strangers? Students can research the Golden Rule of all religion and evaluate the actions of the terrorist and those of the doctor against the criteria suggested by this ethical motivation. This could relate to the parable of the Good Samaritan.
