An explanation of the Khanda and Khalsa and how the former is the symbol that represents the latter. The young man presenting makes a Khanda for his bedroom and explains how the three elements remind Sikhs of God and his power. At every Vasakhi the Nishan Sahib (the name given to the flag) is lowered, the pole washed in milk, and then a new flag is attached and raised.
Useful to introduce the festival of Baisakhi and related symbolism. What happens during a festival? What festivals do they celebrate at school? What do they celebrate with their family and friends? After the clip, elicit a list of the main events that take place during Baisakhi. Pupils could then write a postcard to a friend telling about their pretend experience during this festival and mentioning what aspect they found most interesting.
