Seismic monitoring equipment around the world allows us to map the location and size of earthquakes as they occur, enabling us to predict the probable impact of future earthquakes. The pattern of the internal structure of the Earth, tectonic plates, and three main types of plate boundaries are all shown graphically.
Could be used for helping students to define key terms to do with the structure of the Earth and earthquakes. Later in a scheme of work it could then be used as a way of students testing their knowledge by adding their own audio to the visuals. Provides a starting point for a discussion on why we monitor earthquakes considering we can’t predict them.
